Metroid Prime 4: Beyond | Nintendo Direct

These graphics don't strike me as Switch 2, looks like Switch footage to me and looks similar to the recent remake
Of course. if they showed the game with some super advanced graphics then people would have pointed it out instantly. This game is coming to the Switch, Nintendo hasn't announced Switch 2, so they show the game on a Switch.

What the point of being on Switch 2? To play it in 1080p60 instead of 900p60?
If it was made from ground up for Switch 2 it will be better IMO. Just my opinion.

Do you think resolution is the only aspect of graphical quality? Textures, lighting, shadows, AA, AF could be done so much better on the expected Switch 2 hardware, 3X the RAM and a lot more rendering performance, and DLSS is almost as big a deal as the rest of it and could provide a high quality upscaled output

We'll have to see how much they do with the Switch 2 version, obviously if it was built bespoke for that it could be more impressive

I absolutely adore the Metroid Prime games. Going back and playing Remastered last year was such an amazing experience. My GOTY. I'm gonna be greedy and hope MP2 Echoes Remastered comes out before 4 so I can play Echoes and then jump right into 4.

If it's cross-gen, you'd expect them to use their best footage (Switch 2) for the reveal.

No, because they're still doing everything to pretend the Switch 2 doesn't exist. They don't want you to think about that yet, they want you to buy a Switch.

im still genuinely baffled at how poorly put together this trailer is (not the game, the presentation of the game)

It should have been like a dark room, echoed gunfire then like a silhouetted object breaks through the door and the camera follows them outside to reveal a big beautiful alien landscape with things flying about and walking around then the camera pans around the reveal it's samus and then Title cut "Metriod prime 4 : Beyond" then jump cut to varied gameplay in different locations, different enemies etc. Tease a big boss as the final shot and as they are about to collide weapons cut to black, 2025

Think of how dumb the actual trailer is, obvious text, ship lands with very little surprise or interest for what it might be, instant samus reveal, randomly walks forward, jump cuts to arbitrary combat in the same location, random scan, tiny morphball movement then jump cut to other random encounter. then a weird end stinger of what we assume is the antagonists but literally zero narrative or reason to think so other than they stand opposite samus in the scene, and then finally a bad breath of the wild camera pull away shot.

Honestly this could go down as one of the blandest worst trailers made. A CGI trailer would have even been more exciting

NGL, Metroid reminds me of Halo more than the New Halo.
A lot of people that worked on Halo 4 left Retro after Nintendo moved on from Prime 3 and decided to have them make 2D Donkey Kong.

A lot of Retro/343 alumni may have returned to help on Prime 4 🤷‍♂️

It was giving Guardians with the intro level and everything exploding all over, but tbf it goes two ways as iirc a lot of Metroid graphics designers went over to there and that's why the Promethians look so Metroid

Maybe a little weird, but I don't like that scene at all that has the humans shooting and whatnot.. Marines or whatever. Maybe I'm just cautious but that bit especially felt less Metroidy.. I don't want NPCs and whatnot hanging around so hopefully they are just window dressing to set the scene and everyone's dead by the time things get rolling.

cross gen and they saving the best footage etc for Switch 2 reveal or they just going to get it out the door before Switch era ends and don't really have much.

So, obviously to me this is going to be a Switch 2 launch title with it coming in 2025. What they showed looked good and while i know its just a trailer, i'm hoping the visuals in the final game look less Switch 1 and more of a current gen type visuals.

It's deliberately TBD 2025 because this game, like some others not shown today are being held for Switch 2 reveal/ launch window.

Kinda of a waste that this is still a switch 1 game at the core but at least they showed something.
Curious to see how it look on S2.

So you think this is a toned-down version and they release another one just next to it and it will be next-gen? I really, really doubt it. Of course I expect much better picture quality, obviously but it will be still like a port from Switch 1 version. 3x RAM will not be utilized, maybe for faster loading at best.

Dude it's a 2015 mobile chipset. What you saw is what the game looks like on Switch 1.

If you're needing more than that, Nintendo will be glad to sell you this game on Switch 2 instead.

I remember when Metroid Prime launched on GameCube. It had the pinacle graphics at the time. Nothing looked better. It was just amazing to play at the time.
Now I look at this trailer, these "cartoonish" graphics, so outdated. Its just SAD. Nintendo should have made it exclusive to Switch 2.

Yeah good chance. But still skeptical given the trailer, the fact it isn't a big franchise, the fact it's been in development hell for 7 years...

Obviously it won't be as good as if they made a fully native Switch 2 version, but there's still a lot they could ramp up with the new power level and DLSS within the same game and engine. There's PS4-PS5 titles I could point to. The 9 year old TX1 is struggling and has been for a while and a lot of cuts have to be made for that.

Yes it had the feel of something they are just going to push out the door as is.

It better get a much better looking Switch 2 version. After waiting so long it deserves to launch on something better than 8 years old mobile tech.

i don't like to feel this way, but it does feel like they don't have huge confidence in the game if that's how they choose to present it first.

Compare it to their big franchises like TotK and BotW or even Mario odyssey reveals, this has a complete different vibe going

It's really not good at all. Not sure what they were thinking here or if anyone really reviewed it at all.

I know, I know... if it's any consolation, even if it were Switch 2 exclusive and maxed out that console, it would still be like one gen behind state-of-the-art.
