Colin Moriarty: Concord cost 400M. Was viewed as the future of PS.

The problem is they won't learn from that failure, in every press article about the failure, they don't even mention woke. They just say it failed because the hero shooter market has already enough free to play competition and that some character designs are not that good. It seems no outlet even dares to write woke in their article and how should the developers then learn from this failure…

There are games far more woke than Concord that are far more successful.

If an outlet says something negative about wokeness, the outlet is dead. That's one reason why i can't take critics and Metacritic seriously. In my country the reviewers even make every noun also female. They don't write gamers, they write *female* gamers.

how do you define woke?

how do you define woke?
That's actually a thread worthy question and a lot of people including me will struggle answering that.

Woke is not a bad thing in general, but the implementation in gaming (or from Disney :messenger_grinning_smiling:) sucked. They overdid it in the last couple of years and it's often implemented badly, because it's too obvious/artifical so that many people now instantly yell woke if they see a black or gay or strong female lead, even if it fits the game and is well written. Woke became a curse word.

So my definition of woke in gaming is: Shoving minorities and political agendas down the throats of people who are anything but the target group or even slightly interested in it. Most gamers are straight males and those are usually not interested in smaller boobs, uglier faces, bald or muscular females and don't want to learn about all 72 genders.

you are on the right path. it's not about diversity or inclusion per se but the use of those aspect as the main taking point or marketing beat for a mainstream product.

and i can't think of anything "woke" being successful.

If people can refute this. Do it. Don't just say it's not true. Prove it.
That's so stupid. What do you expect people to do? Breach into PlayStation's account department and steal confidential financial records to show you?

This is most likely false because literally no PS game ever had that budget. Very, very few games in the world would have that kind of budget.

The next time someone says to you that Astrobot had a $500 million budget, would you refute it because that doesn't add up and is illogical or would the onus of the burden fall on you to prove that it wasn't $500 million?

The onus of the burden is on Colin, not us.

Nice try but things like that don't work on me bud. I'm just laughing at anyone in here that believes that this game cost anywhere near that. Hardly any game out there would be $400 million. Ya'll should get a better source than a rage bait "trust me bruh I have a source" Youtuber.
Its not even hardly any, there has never been a game that has been released that had a $400m development budget. But we got people here believing a 5v5 hero shooter with limited maps is the most expensive game ever made lmao :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I see access media are suddenly on full damage control 🤣.

I guess we back to the bigots causing the game to fail. Luckily a blue hair game developer who didn't work at the studio and a bunch of "totally" reliable game Journos say it's wrong and provide no evidence or reason to refute the claim.

If anything to me this proves the 400 mil is actually correct.

There is zero chance this game failed because it was too woke.
The mass doesn't care about this shit and will play a game if it is good.

It's a GaaS shooter with uninteresting characters, brings nothing new to the table, costs 40$ and even though the shooting part felt good, it lacked so many mechanics and effects that it felt like a PS3 era game at times.

Sony already knew people don't want to pay to these types of games, that's why they don't ask for an active PS+ to play F2P games.

I'm pretty sure a Naughty Dog developer of all people and someone who used to do PlayStation finances for a team would have a much better idea of what Concord cost than some nobody Youtube grifter like Colin who can't even name his made up source.

It sounds far fetched but then again they purchased a studio, located in i believe an expensive area, they worked many years on this game, on Sonys payroll. Then there is the continued CG episodes, they probably bought themselves into Secret Level, they pushed a controller and merch.

I don't think 400 is accurate though, but its surely above 100. And frankly every dollar spent on this shit was already one too much.

Working for naughty dog has fuck all to do with working for firewalk. You understand that right. Working at Apple doesn't mean you know how much Microsoft are spending (also working in the art department).

Why would Colin name a whistleblower. So that you can go dox them and call them a bigot or something crazy like nutters do.

If this was false it would be extremely easy for firewalk and Sony to say is false. Funny we haven't heard from either.

But keep believing your Twitter activists 🤣🤣 they are always the most trustworthy people.

The visceral reaction from these people say more than is needed. When there's a huge defense force from the access media for something they should not really care about. Then you know there's something to it.

Actually woke is a real thing. It was a popular way to define onself, coined by the very people who are now acting like the term manifested itself out of thin air. Acting like woke came from nowhere is yet another lie from Sweet Baby and their ilk

Nobody out there has to come out and say something is false every time a nobody claims something is true. Like someone else said no game out there has a budget of $400 million let alone a 5v5 hero shooter that barely has any maps in it. Your stupidity is astounding.

Ok, someone explain how halo infinite could be 500 million ( we know this was debunked as bullshit) with a 3 to 4 year dev cycle and no comment from an employee, just a fake news article from Germany somewhere. Everyone then believes that it's the budget.

But an employee on this game that has cg cutscenes coming out of its ass and a 400 mill budget with 8 years dev cycle but the Internet has some serious warriors trying to debunk it. After all this info came from an employee at the studio and the news is coming from Colin which anyone with a sniff of interest knows he is sonys top 5 supporters.

It's not adding up?

Sony rarely responds to leaks, rumours, Twitter drama, criticism, etc. The last time was during the ABK acquisition and that was a direct response to something Phil was saying. Some devs occasionally chip in, but there's rarely an official response. I suspect this will be the case here too. Firewalk is probably just trying to keep a low profile lol.

I mean i get it, you don't like colin Moriarty. you aren't the first, but there is literally as little evidence that the 400mil is true as it is false.

to me the reaction around the rumor is pretty telling, I've seen damage control before and these "influencers", not journos, are exactly the type you use for this.

I've yet to see a decent debunk. So far it only consists of "lulz, are you really that dumb to believe $400 M is real?", without providing any actual counter number and arguments. "Just believe me, I have experience in the industry".

A journalist (former journalist?) using an anonymous source with direct knowledge of an event is not even a rumor, it's news. All predicated on the credibility of the journalist, of course, which can be argued.

Listening to Colin, he reckons the majority of the last $200million was spent in the last 1-2 years on outsourcing as the game was in such a poor state. Crazy if true.

Disappointing but not surprising to see dipshit influencers reporting this as fact and not a rumor.

That Luke Stevens clown is Especially annoying, what happened to being skeptical Luke.

This story has caused absolute brain rot to infect a portion of the internet. Our sister site is apoplectic over the news that colin reported something and is breaking their rules about posting stuff from him.

I support LSM so take what I saw with a grain of salt but listening to him for over a decade colin doesn't make stories up. He's one of the most knowledgeable playstation personalities in the industry. The hate for him clouds peoples judgement.

Does $400 million seem like a lot? Yeah. But I'd rather err on the side of the guy who has covered playstation for almost 30 years and doesn't take bribes over random assholes on the internet

So a Year to 2 years of Concord Development time cost the same as the entirety of Horizon Forbidden West and the Last Of Us Part 2?

GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK!

If you believe that you can probably be convinced the earth is still flat!

Ps not you specifically!

I don't believe the $400m number at all, wasn't even marketed as such.

Wasn't GoW around $100m? No way in hell Sony invest 4 times that amount at an unknown unproven IP.

1982 people are in the Concord credits and external people aren't cheap. 400m is not impossible, but i think it's more like 200-250 million.

400m is the combined total from original investors and Sony finishing the game, Sony didnt spend 400m themselves.

The game was allegedly in development from one of the Firewalk devs for a very long time, so 200m is entirely normal to burn through. Then Sony out sourcing to finish up the game as quickly as possible counts the rest.

The boss of Playstation games loved the game and wouldn't hear any criticism, Colin was told people internally at Sony called it project chaos.

So with that culture in place a lot of terrible decisions get made.

The Last of Us 2 had 2300 people in the credits and Horizon had 3400!

100 to 200 million for the entire development is believable.

200 million for 1 to 2 years development is not

If we take the $400 million as true as the total cost of the project and of that Sony spent $200 million the last 1-2 years (including outsourcing) : Sony must've spent a helluva premium at the outsourcing studios to get Concord priority.

I'm sure people will start digging who these houses are and see if any of it adds up. And perhaps more info will come out. It will interesting if there's an element of truth to it all.

Hulst is a woke virtue signaling clown. The fact he said this shite was the Future of Playstation is total cringe. He is trying so hard to look progressive and earn brownie points with certain groups while alienating the actual core group of Playstation gamers who demand better than this crap. He needs to be sacked and Playstation needs to get the hell out of California and back to Japan. Some semblance of sanity will start to come back and we may see normal AAA exclusives once again. This woke mind virus that is plaguing gaming is really killing it. The weirdo devs and their sick twisted agendas of gay black women leads, soyboy wimpy white male sidekicks, feminazi butch white women and the rest are enough to make most gamers vomit. Gaming is at a point where every franchise is being taken over by these nut jobs. The latest with Lara Croft and the rumored scene with another girl. These companies losing the kind of money Sony lost with Concord hopefully is the wake-up call needed. In the end money matters more than all the politically correct woke virtue signaling shite they try to infect games with. The investors could care less about who slept with who……they care about a nice return on the products being made. Time to purge the industry of these weirdos and their sick agendas with Herman leading the list.

Hulst never said that this game was the future of playstation. That's a fake quote.

He was part of the mindset within the company regardless. He needs to go and be replaced with someone else who has a better vision for Playstation. Defending him doesn't help the brand at all.
Oh I agree, just pointing out that the quote was fake. Concord coming out without anything special or eye-catching about it is a failure that should make some heads roll at playstation.

Think the chances of that number are less than zero. I sometimes wish people just looked at how these companies operated. Sony spent $400 million on a game/IP that they deemed only worthy to show gameplay of like 2 months before it launched? I just completely doubt that. Even after that it wasn't hyped to the moon or anything. They had some blog posts and tweets but that was about the extent of it. Hell, I've seen more legit Astrobot ads and push from Sony and that was clearly a smaller titles in terms of scope and overhead. I even find the 250 mil number rather hard to believe, even with all the ballooning budgets nowadays.
