Jesus fucking Christ. It’s getting so hard to figure out whether a game is actually good based on reviews.

Avowed got roasted but was great. This is being praised but likely crap.

Anyone got a link to a decent review? I’m somewhat intrigued

Is this from the actual game? It looks like a garys mod or something not official.
It is, it's from Mutahar's video he just uploaded. The scene is right at the beginning of his video

I also can't believe how bad this looks. He was complaining about the voice acting, though, I can't see past the horrific animations in that cutscene(?).

Man, even Mortismal Gaming review was pretty rough. And he is usually fairly forgiving. And Fextralife even titled his review “Let me BRUTALLY honest “, lol. 😂

Of course egregious MTX and progression speed bumps exist to “guide” you to Ubi store. 💩💩💩.

I'm playing it right now on the series X. Looks and plays well. Gameplay is fun and voice acting is good if your playing it in Japanese which you should. Playing it on its hardest difficulty and I haven't hit a bug yet probably will later like most games. As for enemies they are not sponges yet but I haven't leveled up to much. Stealth is where it's at . Give it a try on Ubisoft plus if you ain't trying to buy it.

Braindead AI, yep is an Ubisoft game.

It’s like this even on Expert difficulty. They don’t ever stop being stupid.

I fought multiple camps yesterday where I would help one side kill the other and afterwards the living side would just stand around. After a minute or so they’d start attacking me. So, yeah, it’s the same exact AI they’ve always had. There is literally new or improved compared to previous games, which is disappointing but expected.

I haven't checked in on the state of AC lore in a while but iirc the main conceit of the Animus is that it allows you to relive the past lives of your direct genetic ancestors, right? Homosexuals tend to sire offspring... less often, lets say.

Its odd that the game lets you play as a completely gay person who is canonically bi (at best). Why not just make the character straight? Not every game needs to let you be a pansexual lothario, especially when it directly conflicts with established lore.

Though in Odyssey's case, that probably is the one where bi would make the most sense.

Also why the fuck not just make Yasuke+Naoe a thing, if you are presumably playing as one person who is related to both of them.
AC stopped using ancestors since Black Flag. In Origins the future protagonist literally hooks a cable to Bayek's mummy to use the Animus, so yeah

Yeah like every other ac in the last 15 years what else is new

Are we gonna put salt on everything ac has done badly but only now are we giving fair reviews? 😂

Mortismal gaming whoever it is loved Veilguard by the way 🤡

The weird ass zoom ins... it's like watching a k-drama. lmao.

And there is no recoil when Naoe fires that gun either. It looks so goofy. xD

Man I thought this was a joke edit haha

It really does have the garysmod look and feel. It's bizarre when the actual world looks so good.

Dang.....pretty brutal. I'm enjoying it so far, but the intro is incredibly long. I played three hours last night and only at the end did the world open up. The combat is definitely not as good as Ghost of Tsushima. The stances in that game are what set it apart. Maybe that will change the more I play though. We will see.

Its wild that the best combat in any Assassin's Creed Game I've experienced was AC3, and its not even in my top 3

Here's the prime example on why I say use use your own feelings about a game. Everyone is subjective, racist, etc. and will use that as their own bias towards something like a review.

I guess if it was $20 it might be much easier decision for people lol.

That is true at least 3 or 4 hrs needed to even equip armour and weapons lol. That's when you get your open world and than you can go anywhere. It ain't no ghost combat wise and graphics.

Is it safe to say that AC is the official Fast and the Furious of gaming.

I think many of us would have said CoD, but all things considered, CoD has managed to maintain its general look and feel (at least with their campaigns) where AC has kind of gone the same trajectory and the FnF, like the first 3 (plus standalone Expansions) games had its own identity, vision. They were all about the creed, fighting templars, stealth and politics etc. much like how FnF was all about street car culture. Then AC4 blew it out of the water and changed the direction of the franchise, similar to FnF 4, then games post origins have had 0 imagination or soul or vision. They are just big and loud, lots of stuff in bloated open worlds, much like how most FnF movies are just explosions and men with muscles and Families etc.

Both franchises basically don't care about their roots and both don't really care about how average their final products will be cause they know either way they'll sell millions and make their money back.

A story as old as time as people have their personal biases and opinions they're pushing, etc.

As always, I think the best thing to do is find raw gameplay and just watch it. If it looks entertaining at all to you, go for it. If not, maybe wait for a sale or skip.

Review outlets and reviewers are also subjective. I personally prefer SkillUp's as I find our opinions tend to align here and there.

That being said, unless it's complete garbage across the board, I've never let reviews affect my purchase. If it's something I genuinely want to play, I'll want to play it regardless. If the "risk" is worth it depends on a number of variables.

It’s Ubisoft, so wait 6 months and it will be under $40! Plus it will get patched up as it has some technical issues on PC side at least.

Yeah I'm not waiting 6 months. I prefer to play day 0 on games I'm looking forward to lol.

I guess I'm thankful for my job. $70 is nothing.

Who in their right minds thought romance was needed in an AC game?
I know it's not the first AC game with romances but instead of wasting your resources on shit like this or endless fetch quests just focus more on the abysmal combat this game has.

Also, the writing in this game, holy shit - Ubisoft really uses AI writers now? Because It definitely feels like it.

Sad to think the last good AC game came out 12 years ago...

Origins was pretty good I thought. Odyssey was alright just needed some XP curve and mercenary system modding.

I don't know if it's fair to compare it to another game, specifically when it's a different developer. But now I want to get home tonight and play both side-by-side to see!

Maybe if it was between 2 different AC games under the same studio then I'd understand that.

I don't see why not. Both have samurai/shinobi style combat. This is a completely natural comparison to me.

Damn it! This was the review I was most looking forward to. Why couldn't Ubisoft with all its money 5 years ago hire good writers? And now they don't even have money to correct course :/

Bad writing is a very generic, unverifiable criticism.

Ubi games tend to have filler writing. To send you on a mission. I wouldn’t judge it.

Never played a Ubi game and thought it had bad writing.
