Bad writing is a very generic, unverifiable criticism.

Ubi games tend to have filler writing. To send you on a mission. I wouldn’t judge it.

Never played a Ubi game and thought it had bad writing.
Did you check his review? He explains what he means by it. That it's all filler till the last 5 hours and at the end of it, you can't remember a single memorable character or storyline. I'm not going to call that bad writing. But certainly not good either.

Sounds like every other Ubi game to me.

Can remember only two characters from entire Assassins Creed franchise.

Ezio and Kassandra. Thats it.

Must’ve played some 5-6 games over 15 yrs or so.

Exactly why I wished they finally hired good writers. Sometimes that's all it takes to elevate the experience.

It’s crazy how people assume everyone has played all these Ubi games. I haven’t played a AC since black flag until now. And the last Ubi game I played a bunch of was Immortals Fenyx Rising. Not everyone tires themselves out of these formulas.

Here are my playtimes for AC games I've played the last few years. This is just for the base games, not DLC.

It is objectively bad. Good writing makes memorable characters, bad writing doesn't.

For a saga with such a strong focus on narrative, having just a few characters you care about is awful. Whatever game by From Software has more memorable characters than the whole AC saga, even if they speak just a few lines.

I finished Fenyx Rising and got tired of it. AC only 1 and 2 and didn't even bother to finish them. Far Cry 1 and 2 after 3 they suck only looks prettier. Don't know the last one if it's better.

Enjoyed this comparison to Valhalla. I must admit, the AI generated music took it to another level

2 Assassins, one beating heaaaart!

Wow, this generational leap is insane and people who says the opposite are right.

I've played a few hours so far. Story has been great and I really do think it's the most beautiful game I've played this gen. I've played stuff with RTGI or even Path tracing on PC before, but this just takes the cake even on a console. Unlike other games where RT feels tacked on top, here it really does feel like the entire game has been built around it and it shows. I can't stop staring in awe at everything and slow walking taking in the scenery.

I do think that, and maybe this is due to running a channel, but newcomers to gaming. I mean even if its been in the last 4 years they could have played 1 or maybe not who knows. Long series often run into that kind of discussion.

That being said glad to see it reviewing well and people seeming to dig it a ton. Its also nice seeing folks leap in who have played most of them and feeling the stealth and combat differences. While it is weird to constantly hear "combat and stealth are the same" and "I don't think the huge changes are good" in the same reviews is fucking weird.

Clutch of the generation, holy shit. Way better than I expected.

Good:
- graphics. it looks insane
- world density. There's so much happening on screen at all times. Foliage, particle effects, tons of geometry, NPC's, animals. Technical masterpiece of sure
- vibes. Sneaking through the shadows as a Shinobi is just cool as fuck. This is literally what every AC fan has been waiting for since the first game
- hideout. Seeing this in previews and trailers made it seem super retarded and a waste of time but it is great and works incredibly well. Some dev team spent an insane amount of time polishing this whole system
- physics. They have drastically improved their physics engine so the amount of jank is reduced exponentially
- Naoe story is legit cool so far. Her motivation makes sense, her actions make sense. She's a good character
- checkpoint system. It's great!
- prone. Long overdue, and it's is great
- weather effects are insane. Wind blowing, rain coming from rooftops, puddles and mud forming on the ground.
- seasons are awesome. The idea feels superfluous at first but it actually is super cool to see areas move through the seasons
- Japanese voice acting is great. Lip-sync is not super but it's not a dealbreaker at all. Play it on Japanese dub
- respect for the culture. This game is a clear love letter to Japan. Ton of focus on traditions, honoring shrines, etc. There are entire databases explaining traditions and customs. A lot of time went into this for sure. I haven't had a single moment where I thought "wow this is mad disrespectful".

Bad:
- combat. Still clunky, but nowhere near as janky or as button-mashy as previous AC games. It's just not very rewarding, or fun
- flow of the game is a bit weird. Prologue seems to be missing quite some stuff, it feels like they straight up cut out a huge chunk of Yasuke. Which is great, I don't give a shit about him. But I'm 7 hours in and I've played as him for maybe 10 minutes tops. No complaints here though
- no wait mechanic or anything else to change the time of day. This is a HUGE oversight and I honestly don't understand how they forgot to add such a crucial mechanic
- some of the mechanics are a bit vague, like the spy system. I read the tutorial three times but I still have no idea what this is. The game dumps a ton of mechanics on you and at some point you're just like "wait what the hell is all this again"

Might still be the honeymoon phase (I'm seven hours in) but this game is legit a banger so far.

Lol. I believe he's a banned source on ERA. I forget why.

Not bad to get another viewpoint on it. Still bought it so I'll enjoy what I can out of it.
I became a banned source on Era for thumbs upping a question on twitter. Thats it. A question on if I was going to review Cyberpunk

Honestly if you feel that way now. I would sincerely assume you are going to like it much better not less.

I’m a few hours in. Played on a 4090 and steam deck and both look great. SD is 30fps and the music sometimes has some clipping, but damn good looking. I haven’t tweaked any SD settings yet other than turning on HDR. Might be able to make it even better.

One of their own Mods dm'ed me to apologize. And when I said "should I like...correct something or maybe like point it out" He just said "Welp they have randomly decided that your the target there is not anything you can do."

I wonder who is the head honcho of the bunch there. Kind of hard to decipher. Well, sorry that happened either way. I guess the Gaffers here will keep you comfortable here as they have been 😂

Sounded so dirty when I read it lol.

LOL just got through listening to another review "I didn't play almost any of the side stuff, I didn't play both characters, I didn't beat it, I didn't try any of the side missions." Here is my review. Its pretty good sometimes and pretty bad sometimes.
As some point these people are now just collecting free game codes.
Jezuz fucking christ.

SkillUp is banned there? It's hard to find anything controversial about him.
Then I again I left ERA around the time they banned discussion on Cyberpunk 2077. It just made me realize what an echo chamber that place had turned into. Simply logged out and never visited the site again.

Admittedly I lasted way longer than I expected there. Especially as I am ALWAYS constantly saying insanely dirty things in the reviews or podcast. So I felt like I was sort of always on borrowed time.

His brother is apparently HITLER INCARNATE and since SkillUp works with his brother instead of fully supporting the globohomo agenda and cutting ties with his families like a good boy would, he has to go.

What time is it?
If you manage to ban from a gaming forum a milquetoast gaming content creator like SkillUp for being too radical then yeah, you flat out deserve to hate your life lol.

Right results, wrong methods. Just kidding, I don't want SkillUp banned even if the content is all sizzle and no steak.

Strange, I find SkillUp to be one of the few mainstream reviewers that go fairly in depth in his design critiques and uses plenty of specific examples from the games to prove his points.

Have you ever watched Writing on Games? I admit he is alone, he doesn't have a big team like these other guys, and seems to generally actually write and edits his own stuff but man sometimes his thought process is amazing. Not always amazing, but actually does some FANTASTIC work with actually breaking things down. Level design, game decision making and more. The only person I really patreon anymore myself.

One of the things that does help is he edits it himself for the most part which means his points he also has to track and use himself and its noticeable how detached it can make you using editors.

I like his presentation and he's easy to listen to, but his takes on things feel wildly inconsistent to me. It's like he doesn't have central values to inform what he likes and doesn't like so while he'll rightfully lambast something like FF16, he'll enjoy other games that exhibit the same things he criticized. I feel this way less with people like ACG where they have almost more dry (in a good way!) neutral approach, making note of the good and bad as they go along ultimately leaving it up to the player/viewer to decide how they feel about things. It's a safe, but professional approach to critique.

LOL, so tired of this grifter and having to defend a shitty company like ubisoft.

There is no way to call this game a failure based on its CCUs, particularly before the weekend.

It's already nominally tied for 2nd best CCU on Steam in the franchise's entire history... but NOW they're going under as a result? Not going to provide his video views, but unless his argument is that Ubi Soft needed an extraordinary win here, I don't see the logic.

This game will almost certainly outperform Assassin's Creed Origins.

I also don't know why people want to pretend like this genre is SUPER popular on PC in the first place.

I got banned there for saying that employees who admittedly run around screaming lombax titties non-stop to their employees to harass them might not be the most credible sources of information.

What's the point of adding a black character to the game if none of the NPCs react to his skin color? They just treat him like a normal Japanese man.

They didn't the same with Odyssey, nobody reacted to Kassandra being a woman 'misthios', which is a masculine noun without a feminine equivalent by the way.
