Huh. I didn't know that the Nintendo consoles were that cheap in Japan.

Rest seems somewhat in line, but the switch models are a steal

In the UK, the Mario Kart bundle is £429, so assuming the game costs £70, I suppose it's not miles off. Fairplay to Nintendo for treating their local customers better.

A Switch base is 150 dollars?

Ahh, to be Michael Pachter. You get everything wrong every time, but it makes you wealthy somehow.

How is his job even a job? In the work I do (chef), if somebody gets things wrong every time, you fire them almost right away. How.is video game market analyst even a job? (Maybe he claims he does other stuff?)

" I had 2 windows open and managed to post this in the wrong thread. Sorry. This was supposed to be in the one with the poll where we were Michael Pachter all along.

The discount on Nintendo hardware in Japan is crazy. Our prices are set higher so they can discount in Japan.
Yup, we subsidise the Japanese market
The discount is caused by the weakening of the yen in the last 8 years. It wasn't this way at launch and there's no "subsidising".

I can respect and admire Japan giving a discount to their countrymen. Love that energy and I'd like to see Americans adopt it too.

They make the best games and the best consoles. They deserve for them to be cheaper, frankly. Hell, give every Japanese citizen a Switch 2 at birth and I'm good with it.

gonna cry tobey maguire GIF

Shit is always cheaper in the US, electronics are a fucking ripoff if you don't buy them there, the rest of America (the continent) make $800 (best case scenario) or less monthly and products cost double or triple the price.

How Nintendo takes advantage of American and European users by selling them consoles at much higher prices.
Or maybe Nintendo doesn't want to take advantage Japan too because is their hometown like Sony is doing right now and are having abysmal numbers with those prices.

Using 2017 yen to usd exchange rate for Switch

2017 MSRP in USD
Switch - $267
Switch lite - $177
Switch oled - $346
Switch 2- $444

Yen suffered greatly in the past 5 years, which subsequently pushed Sony to increase the price of the PS5 in Japan, but Nintendo is looking to do the opposite by subsidizing the hardware in their home turf to maintain their market share.

And the vast majority of my Japanese friends plus my girlfriend who is also Japanese, suspended their Nintendo subscriptions as soon as Monster Hunter Wilds came out and they bought a PS5. I am one of the few people in our group who still keeps it active.

Traitors.
