RRP is £480 for the disc and £390 for the digital. In the uk the digital is around £350 or tad more and the disc version is around £400 or over and refurbished is under £400 so despite the japanese price increase this puts it around the same level of we pay for

This. We can close the Thread. The value of the yen so far this year is dreadful. Not surprised at this at all.
I get why Sony is doing it, but it will probably harm PS5 sales.Well, yen is very weak. Even camera companies are hiking prices and that stuff is usually even made in Japan.
Switch 1 might be bringing in decent profits so they can take a hit on the margins.
But that's just me guessing.
Maybe switch 2 gets impacted.
Switch was profitable from day-one, yeah. When inflation hit in the US other costs in gaming went up but Nintendo held the line at $60 / $300 because Switch is way more profitable with bigger margins. Nintendo basically kept making bank while absorbing a price decrease.

Are you guys really sure that Sony will launch a PS5 Pro? I don't know how they expect it to work. If the regular PS5 cost that much in Japan, how much will the Pro cost?
Japan is not going to get much better. It is close to end stage fiat with a 260% debt to GDP ratio. Once you breach 100%, it's essentially a banana republic. There's nothing left to do, they have to keep making more currency to prevent a collapse of the currency as it is debt based like all fiat currently is and that will only devalue it more.Considering how bad the economy here in Japan is now, the terrible wages and the yen, this move will just destroy the PS5 here. It maybe equal to the dollar but in regards to the spending power those of us have in Japan, that’s an insane increase. ¥80000 is just unbelievably insane.
At this point Sony don't even know what they are doing. With Pro costing that much and without a price reduction on base PS5, I don't expect any raise in PS5 sales. Besides that, gaming PC market is getting more and more attractive, and Sony apparently don't realise that it is their real competitor these days.Equivalent to $700, at least.
Yes I am sure the pro is comingAre you guys really sure that Sony will launch a PS5 Pro? I don't know how they expect it to work. If the regular PS5 cost that much in Japan, how much will the Pro cost?
I'd definitely choose any of the above over that, but consumers love PS.
The price is only increasing numerically, the value is staying the same. Problem is, is people's wages don't also adjust to currency debasement. That’s ridiculous. That could very well kill momentum in Japan. How much will be PS5 Pro be then? $800-1000??? Has this been the only console generation where these companies actually increased the price of their consoles instead of dropping the prices? I’ve even heard that the PS6 will be very expensive and people should prepare to save up for it. What is Sony doing?
I got a PS5 1st. Nothing to pretend about, but of course you have to run cover even in this thread I guess. Carry on.You already did anyway, so let's not pretend here.

What is the point you're trying to make then? You getting a PS5 first doesn't change any of what I said.

Imagine if everyone was this smartLet's stay locked at home for a year. Nothing bad will come out of that.
I literally don't understand what you're trying to say. I don't even think you do honestly. I said I would choose any of the above options. I'm not pretending about anything. So you have no point I guess, figures.
Regardless of what's happening to the yen, these are ridiculous price hikes.
You don't take a dump on your home market like this.
He beated Sony and increased the price of a console that was already dead just a few weeks ago.Phil Spencer is looking at this news and saying "Wtf, Sony?! Y'all up to sum crazy as shit over there!"

Probably thinking how he can out dumb sony.Phil Spencer is looking at this news and saying "Wtf, Sony?! Y'all up to sum crazy as shit over there!"
Probably thinking how he can out dumb sony.
They both have a synergy going. Dumb and dumber.
Sony was like "The fuck you doing, MS?".Microsoft also announced a price increase for its Xbox consoles in Japan earlier this month, raising the price of its Xbox Series X 12 per cent to almost 67,000 yen.
Playstation's home market is Europe now.
Maybe Japan should focus on improving their economy instead, how a country is okay with 25 years of stagnant GDP is beyond me.
