Marathon Releases September 23, 2025

I think GAF is way too down on multiplayer. Look, I have no interest in jumping on this as I've put way too many fucking hours in online FPS in the past and I got fed up, but there's way too many overreactions here. Can't believe I have to say that. The gamer retention stats will tell the story when it releases, I can see it doing just fine. This is nothing like Concord. I bet a lot of FPS streamers will love this.
i think most of us are just not mp fans me as well

I'm not impressed but I will try the beta. Marvel Rivals looked like shit in prerelease trailers too but I kinda love it.
Personally, I hate all kinds of MP Gaas, shooter extration and this Marathon doesn't do anything for me... But it's like you say, at this point I don't think anyone can be sure if an MP Gaas game is going to be successful or not because we live in a time where most of the games of this type that are big hits today were ridiculed and few or no one gave a penny for their success.

There's this weird paradox where choosing bright colors/no textures actually makes the game look more sterile and bland. These hero shooters somehow make Cod like look like fucking Arma for fucks sake

Nothing makes me feel like a boomer more than the gaming industry lol

Gotta love gamers and the internet. If I showed you you're guys' favorite games for the first time today, you'd say they're shit and suck your own dicks.
So let's assume we are only talking MP first person games right?

Then you can laugh at that if you want (and just on top of my head): BF2, CSS, TF2, Enemy Territory (Wolfenstein and QW), Mordhau, Ready or Not, Darktide, Killing Floor 2 and probably some more than I'm forgetting...

What's similar to Concord Marathon? Would you really say that what they showed looks good if the name Bungie wasn't there?

Yeah, show me a gaas game in which gaf thought would be good before release? Nobody knows whether this will be good or not until reviewers start dropping impressions

Yea for sure GAF is not much MP and that's basically every multiplayer game in a nutshell on this forum but even when I know I'll probably never touch this, I see all the mechanics that could make the game be very popular with the usual streamer crowd.

To be seen 🤷‍♂️

So Sony cancelled these games that have crazy good gameplay mechanics and game worlds:
God of War
The Last of Us
Spider-man
Horizon

For Concord and now this?

I would of preferred play a TLOU battle royal or do some Spider-man co-op missions then play these generic shooters.

What does bungie working on this have anything to do with the rest of the list?

Yeah, I'm sure Bungie was hard at work on God of War and Horizon before pivoting to this...

You do realize there is not a developer studio named "Sony" that makes all these games, right?

And Spider-Man 2 isn't that old. We had Miles Morales before that. Insomniac is also releasing Wolverine, X-Men and Spider-Man 3. But what does that have to do with Bungie?

Thats a bit late. A shadowdrop ala Apex Legends would have been killer.

With GTA 6 dropping in November (I assume) this wont last long

Looks...okay? More like a new mode in Destiny 2. These games are designed to continuously extract money out of you, which is a major turn-off.

The only thing I need to know is the price. If they're going to be chargin' money for this... good luck. It has to be F2P, cuz they'll monetize the shit out of it from top to bottom anyway.

The art-style is something else, very in your face with color overload, not sure how many people will stomach this over a long period of time, let alone just for a few minutes. They've much more detailed and realistic art-style on the actual artworks and marketing materials and I think they should've gone for that istead.

You guys do realize Sony spent money to aquire Bungie right? And this is the result of that $3.6 billion for us gamers, generic Marathon?

A better world would be if Sony didn't canceled those games and used that $3.6 billion to invest in more single-player games.

People Just gotta learn how to enjoy a game without forking any money out to it but I might be in the low majority of gamers who don't buy micro transaction in these types of games they're deff predatory though.

Yes, the gameplay looked fantastic. Please list all the extraction shooters with sci-if lore and techno-future art style in the market.

None. They are all pretty much mil-sim and err so far into realism it almost becomes a chore. This is providing the extraction genre and streamlining it. Looks chaotic and a blast.

Not seeing that, it aligns perfectly with the concept art
I'm not talking about concept art, I've said marketing materials, which you can clearly see on the screens there.

The in-game visuals and models are way too simplistic in comparison similar to Zelda BOTW / TOTK or Monster Hunter Stories games for example with very simple and flat cel shading art-style.

Looks like any other shooter, but this one picks the sci fi setting with bright colours. One unique part is it picks a neon-ish colour palette not many shooters pick.

Some people like this kind of shooter, some dont. Who knows if it'll do well.

I get the negative reception. I'm fairly disappointed.

- It looked way too fast paced, arena shootery focused.
- Outside of the Locus shield, I didn't notice a single shell ability.
- Looked completely uninterested in building tension.
- Maps looked small AF designed to prevent any mid range or long range engagements.

There's a lot of immature responses here but I interpret that as people having higher expectations than this.

Looking forward to hear from clarky clarky , James Sawyer Ford James Sawyer Ford , and MiguelItUp MiguelItUp
