Assassin's Creed: Shadows has been the best-selling video game in the US for each of its first 3 weeks/Ranks#2 YTD trailing only Monster Hunter Wilds

Haters trying to cancel a game and fail is always a pleasure to watch

Is called free marketing, but some people never learn, look at Pokemon.

Good call on KCD2. I keep forgetting that one. We do know that sold well.

Did Civ 7 sell well? I assume it underperformed to some extent, but that might be my bias talking.
Civ 7 was the 3rd best selling game of 2025 so far, behind Kingdom Come and Monster Hunter.

It will be 4th now after Shadows' launch.

Some extra info.

It's the same in France for the last 3 weeks, also ASTRO BOT :messenger_bicep:

To be fair, there's been like 3 really good AC stories. Just 'okay' is fine enough for now. It's something to build on.
But I don't think it's "ok". I think it's shit, like very very shit. "Ok" story is Origin, it was serviceable. In Shadows it's just so freakin' bad I just couldn't believe what I was watching.
Cliché over cliché, and badly made with that.

Who is cheering?

The story is better than any of the recent AC games. The gameplay is better than any recent AC games.

It's a step in the right direction. They still have far to go.
Looking at the comment on the source, people are cheering.

I wouldn't say it's better, I'd say it's less bad. There is still a long way to go indeed. Gameplay was ok-ish, but it's too repetitive (let's kill X number of samurai for the 50th time for example...) and completely fucked with a stupid AI. I wont even talk about Templar and Assassin's that are totally missing (and no, a few lines of dialogue doesn't make up for it).
They need to hire competent writer.

70 hours and I am still having fun. The world is amazing, the building mechanics are addictive, the combat is really good (Yasuke rules) and the stealth is awesome. Yes the story is not that great but its still a solid title and fun to play
I can agree on most of your points, minus the combat that I think is barely ok and the building which I don't care for in an AC game.

I have zero love towards anything AC and Ubisoft as whole but like or not people are free to enjoy what they want to enjoy.

Are people only allowed to like games that you like?
For sure anyone can enjoy anything, I'm just voicing my opinion that's it. I was a fan of AC and more globally Ubisoft up to something like 2015 and I'm just sad to see how far they've fallen.

Platform splits are for subscribers. We only get 1 or 2 year so Circana can sell the rest.

Nah, he would have been screaming it through his lungs if it was selling better on Steam, Xbox or Switch. The evidence is piling up, like MHW launch

There was absolutely no question this would sell some copies. Any other belief is just silly.

The question is whether it sold enough in Ubis (and Tencent's) eyes. We will just have to review their stockholder reports for that.

The rest is just social war garbage.

It is anything but a dry year. Look at some release schedules.

If anyone here is saying it's dry, they're not playing games and they're not tuning into gaming news.
what else came out so far?
Ac shadows is the first game I am playing this year... I finished wukong in January but that was 2024 game.

Aside from Wilds and KCD2 of course. I know these. Wilds waits in my backlog. I dont care for KCD2

Its a very good game despite what followers wanna tell you.
If your on the fence- play it for yourself and make your own determination. As far as AC's go - its excellent but not without its faults. Hideout building is a blast btw.

Also last i saw Shadows only fell behind Valhalla. A game which benefited from all of us being home during Covid.

Is this another one of those times where you just make something up due to the agenda in your head?

What is evidence are you using for your claim that he would be screaming from the rooftop if it was Steam, Xbox or Switxh?

Didn't we have this exact exchange last month?lol

Also are you Mat? or one of his fans? I said that I observed him long enough to notice his bias! Also didn't he provide splits for Wilds (in the US) ? How come that wasn't for subscribers?

Also he was with the same infamous discord group around PS5 launch I guess (this Im not sure of)

Apologies, I misunderstood. If you think the game is very bad, that's fine. I thought you meant they all had to be very good.

Even in your attempt to cover everything, you've already missed listing some games.

Keep in mind this website list is just notable titles and doesn't even include all of the good indie games that have been coming out.

I know where this convo is going next, so I'll say this: It sounds like you personally have had a dry year, based on whatever parameters and tastes you have in games.

That doesn't line up with the fact that this factually isn't a dry year. Literally one of the big reasons AC fans were worried about this game's sales, was because it was sandwiched in between 3 other notable games.

We did have this same discussion, do you not remember how it ended?

You accused Dring of hiding splits that favour PS and sharing the split for MH that favours PC. Your exact words were:

"Man, you need to be more observant to their posts. You can check their wording qbout Wilds vs Shadows.. its not hard to see really."

The trouble is you didn't actually read what Dring has said. You just imagined what he said about those two games and then compared the two bits of your imagination against each other.

In the real world, Dring has shared splits that favour PS many many times over the years. More than any other platform. He never shared the split about Wilds.

We can do a pretty similar exercise with Mat. You said you have observed him long enough so let's put that to the test (and I hope you answer). Before Wilds, do you know what the last split Mat gave us was?

This seems like entering a race with Usain Bolt and six paraplegics and then having your PR team brag that you only got beat by Usain Bolt.

That's how Mat is.

"Indiana Jones was December's only new release to rank among the top 20"

lol

Played the game for 15,16 hours in recent days (still haven't played with Yasuke, other than tutorial) and really liked it and can't wait for more.
We still need more information, but it seems AC Shadows is selling great. Don't forget that Monster Hunter Wilds isn't a normal game, but Capcom's "fastest selling game of all time".

If you're like me, don't ignore the belly of the beast mission. I just got Yasuke last night after 15 hours.

I'm loving the two different play styles. So far I suck at stealth and have crap armor for the girl. Might use Yasuke to get the better loot for her.

Played for 15 hours and couldn't force myself any further. The fact that some people are cheering for this game even though the story is truly shitty is worrying in my opinion. It's as if they've completely forgotten what makes a story good and compelling. Just blind them with high-quality graphics and that's it.

Sad times.

Story is a nice bonus in game, but never the priority

Some extra info.

These are labeled as estimates, though. Not real data.

Captain America is the second highest grossing movie in the US this year. Technically true!

If you release a report of the top 20 grossing movies or games in a month, it's completely fine to highlight which ones are new.

If there are multiple new entries, you talk about multiple games. If there's only one new game in the top 20, you say there's only one. It makes complete sense to highlight new entries and this is something Mat does in his reports. It isn't specific to Indiana Jones.

How can it be the best selling if Ubisoft doesn't sell games...🤔

I took a break from AC to play Midnight and Blue Prince but the story seemed really good to me so far 🤷‍♂️

It could end up like Rise of Ronin where it drags on way too long and introduces a thousand D tier characters I guess.

I just found out that Ubi is referencing Spidey 2 in its cover - the color palette is not similar is outright identical.
EDIT: also 2 playable characters, one whit one black in both games, it cannot be coincidence
It's from the same playbook, so no mystery there. But combat becomes a boring repetitive slop after a certain time. Story sucks, even non existent after act 1. Skilltree unlockables and design was made by trainees.

At least you don't have to do certain forced stupid missions like in sm2. But overall it's just a 5/10 game with one of the best weather effects and season system.

Spiderman 1 beats spiderman 2 as a whole package.
