Elden Ring Nightreign devs warn players on PC with the “latest graphics cards” may experience significant performance issues

In the latest patch notes for the new FromSofrware game, the game's developers explained that the PC version currently have a number of performance issues on "the latest graphics cards".

FromSoftware did not confirm which specific graphics cards actually suffer from performance issues, although we'd assume the issue relates to Nvidia RTX 50-series cards and AMD Radeon 9000-series cards. However, there's no confirmation which specific cards have these issues.

If you have one of these "latest" GPUs, FromSoftware suggests turning down your graphics options or even lowering screen resolution. Obviously, this doesn't actually solve the core issue, but it should make the game smoother to play.

"We have confirmed that some PC configurations using the latest graphics cards may experience framerate drops," the developer said. "We are currently investigating the cause. In the meantime, If you experience significant framerate drops, you may be able to resolve it by setting the graphics settings from the default "High" to "Medium" or "Low" and lowering the screen resolution, as well as installing the latest drivers for your graphics card."

FromSoftware has confirmed that it will be supporting its new multiplayer spin-off for a while with new enemies, classes and more coming after launch. Hopefully, sometime very soon, the developer will also release a patch to make full use of the power of these GPUs.

dear customer,

sorry we fucked up. please turn down the graphics settings in this mid-ps4-era looking game on your 1000 buck brand new GPU.

yours,
The Japanese

To me this sounds like Blackwell driver issues, which has been typical as of late.

But obviously speculation is worthless, we'll see when it releases.

Wouldn't be shocked if it was the 5000-series cards the most effected, because Nvidia drivers since their launch have been just fixes for the damn things.

5000 cards are garbage and their driver software is even worse. How Nvidia dropped the ball so hard is beyond comprehension. Thinking about it though, they haven't put out a card that wasn't disappointing and over priced since the 1080. The only reason they haven't had their lunch eaten is AMD being unable to do anything right on the GPU side.

FromSoftware isn't exactly known for their performance polish in games. Sure, for 1 or 2 games you could let it slide, but they have been a massive team for years now and need to put more effort into optimising their games, its not funny or "cute", its lazy (and kinda comes across as amateurish.) It's not like they can't afford to optimise their games either.

Edit - Game got unlocked at midnight and it reminded me that this performance stuff is even worse than I thought. The game is still locked to 60fps for gameplay and cutscenes and 30 fps for cinematics. How can they struggle with high end cards for that? It still also looks the same as Elden Ring so that can't be an excuse.

The 4090 is superb, it's the new 1080ti for me.

5090 is good I guess but the driver updates is fixing quite major things everytime so it's clear that they rushed it out.

You know, with all the money they got from Elden Ring they could have maybe improved their tech a bit. But I guess focusing on recycling assets to make multiplayer games was a bigger priority.

The fact the best way to play was the PS4 version in BC is crazy to me.

PC players were missing out on the last gen version of the game being the best.
So FROM is being nice and giving them a simiular experience by requiring a last gen GPU for the game to run well.

Now i'm supposed to downgrade? This PC lark is getting just too much.
Gave up on PC gaming late last year and just doing PS5 Pro for most games now.

Sitting at a desk, smaller screen, tons of settings to tweak unless I want to invest thousands for a 5090, then mods to fix issues, DRMs, etc it's too much. It just is.

I'll play on pc for an exclusive or a game that's a total shitter on console, but it's no longer my primary device.

Twas but mere jest but I feel you.

I'm away from home a lot, usually internationally, so a Laptop is a god send. I have all the toys at home, decent rig consoles etc but 90% of my gaming is done on the road.

Usually a PS5 exclusive or something that I can't play away is the order of the day at home but those games are few and far between.

Steam deck for me when I get downtime for my work when I travel.

Now that it can do GeForce now it may change how I play even some new releases…

Yeah I colleague of mine has one, really nice bit of kit. If they ever upgrade it ill be over one like a rash. A refresh must be soon right?

I played it on Linux so the experience was actually pretty good! Now please valve, continue turning my desktop into a bootloader for Steam.

Yeah, technically the Switch 2 will probably have a better iteration of Elden Ring than PS5 players had for years when we booted up our PS4 version.

I wonder if the engine is similar to that of RE: Engine where linearity is it's best asset. Sure there's open spaces in Dark Souls but full blown open world just wrecked the engine but it's pretty much flawless in other aspects.

OLED was last year and valve said at that time they don't plan for a steam deck 2 for several years.

I would imagine maybe in 2027 at the earliest?

That works for me, around the time of the new consoles. I just got a second laptop and a Switch 2, anymore hardware this year and the dogs will have to go hungry.

From, darling, you've been in the business for 30 long years. Learn to code already. :lollipop_pensive:

FromSoft did good things. They gave everyone a raise after ER's success. But unless they reinvest some of that monumental profit in the company to improve in areas of clear deficiency they're eventually going to lose some audience.

Whether the new GPU issues are From's fault or not, the above still stands.

Here's my schizo theory: you see those multiplayer games they are working on that look fine but not too hot? They are quick cashgrabs in order to get time and money for the new engine they are working on, which will debut with their next single-player game.

I want to believe. I mean, it's been 3 generations with the same engine, they'll have to make a new at some point, no? :goog_relieved:

Another pc gaming win .
Just like capcom games, userbase on pc is growing but game still runs like crap lol

You can lock this game to 60fps no problem on PC while game runs like crap even on PS5 Pro - and you can't do anything about it.

Running at 4k

Fps average is 60fps

1% lows are 60fps

GPU utilisation is around 35%

I'm using a 5000 series nvidia graphics card

Not seeing any issues so far.

they dont care

theyre making 90% of their money via enterprise AI
and they need more production capacity for that sector.

its practically a waste of their time to spend capacity on gaming GPUs
and what are you going to buy instead? amd? hahaha
