Valve registers "Steam Frame" trademark.

Some people are saying it's likely Deckard (the VR headset), and I agree with that. Just "sounds" like something you'd call a VR headset, no?

Nice to see they at least still have plans for VR (maybe also supporting MR/Mixed Reality) gaming, considering SIE have seemingly just given up on that completely. Meta's still in there, but they don't have the library of Steam, and that's a weakness on Oculus's part.

I'm still mainly interested in Fremont (the console-like system) of course, but a quality VR/MR headset to complement it would be pretty swell, too.

It's a dock for the deck. You plug it in and you get a performance and IQ boost.

This post is hopium

Might be a nice way to tide people over till Steam Deck 2 proper. Still we're getting into SegaCD/32x territory. Probably might be better to just launch the Frame with Deck 2.

The Steam Deck trademark was filed in July 14 (2021) and announced the day after. So there might not be much time to speculate on what the Frame is.

I just don't understand. This is a horrible horrible name.

Remember all those months reading rumors about a SteamBoy™, just for them to come up with Steam Deck?

Not only it's a bad name, but there are also devices called "stream decks".

Also, why it has to be Steam branded? Couldn't it be Valve branded instead? Just choose something out of a hat, call them Valve Alpha, Beta, Gamma, (and then you conveniently skip Lambda).

Love the name

People know steam more than the company that makes it

Yea its gotta be deckard

I can't wait to see it. Announce it already. I want the next phase of PCVR and this time I am choosing Valve's side over Meta's cheaper crap. Give me micro-OLED please

Think I'm looking forward to playing flat games in it just as much as VR ones

If their optics are S-tier like pancake and high nit micro-OLED, then stretching a virtual TV to 300 inches to play OLED quality and HDR 2D games on it would be a mighty good proposition imo.

I know it's probably a pipe dream but if this can produce current gen visuals in a standalone package I will be over this like a tramp on chips. Just as long as I get to keep my kidneys.

I wonder if its a VR headset that has a component that can be taken out and then docked to a tv for normal console play? Perhaps a trifecta where it works as a portable too?

I really, REALLY want a new steam controller

I play all PC games on my TV with a controller and that means I use steam input to map mouse and keyboard for many games

Mouse centric games works fine on a controller as long as the game is pausable (for examle Total War Warhammer 3)

However I would really prefer the Steam deck like touch pads instead of using the analogue sticks to control the pointer

NAS? That sounds more like cloud streaming of games and steam client.
I mean yeah, but all of these are moves toward the living room. It's not that big a step from them streaming games to them streaming anything else on your computer to whatever their console is gonna be called. You're probably right though.

That's what I was hoping, truly an all in one device

vr, console, portable

But also the possibility that its computing is external so it could come with a mini console as well and not be in inside the headset itself
