Yeah, I think it was a poor choice to call Charlie Kirk a fascist in a statement that was clearly meant to show support for denouncing political violence. There's a time and place to make that kind of claim and present your evidence, and that wasn't it. I can respect choosing not to participate because of differing opinions with Charlie, but calling him a 'fascist' in a response to an invite is both unnecessary and inflammatory IMO. I do appreciate that they condemned political violence, and I'll give them credit for that at least. :messenger_confused:

What's sad is these people are not going to back down. They aren't going to stop.

A girl I grew up with posted on FB a few days ago about how shocked she is by the number of Charlie Kirk supporters out there. She was framing it as "wow, can't believe how many hateful bigots just exposed themselves."

Nothing about the hatefulness of people celebrating Charlie's death. But shock over seeing that people supported him and mourned his death. Just unbelievable. This girl also grew up in one of the most stable, wholesome, loving families I ever spent time around.

Scott Adams is right. They simply live in an alternate reality.

People on the far left are too narcissistic to understand that no one is forcing them to suddenly love Kirk and mourn his loss. You're simply being asked to shut the fuck up if all you have to say equates to "grave dancing."

You have to win hearts and minds. Win in the theater of ideas. Call out the violence and hate at every moment and There has to be a solution for having some balance of ideas in higher education.

S Scrawnton Clemson seemed to act quickly because their funding was threatened. That is a way to cull some of it.

There are members of my extended family that cuts ties with their parents this year because of politics. Guess which political sides the cutters and cut-tees are on, and you'd be right.

I wish people could talk, listen and really hear each other, and see that (most) people on the right AND left are not coming from a place of hate. Actually listen to why people think the way they do and not assume based on what they've been told is the reason why they think a certain way.

Charlie Kirk was a force for that good. And now he's dead.
 
Exactly the right message from JD. Unity can happen after the psychotic lunatic problem has been addressed, and that's not just the likes of Antifa but those in 'education' who created them and those funding them. The sane left can help (a head start on unity), get out of the way, or stand in the way and get run over.

This is a watershed moment, and it is not even the assassination itself which brought this to a head, but the widespread celebration of it. People cannot be expected to quietly accept a situation where a significant % of the population will openly advocate for their death if they have a different opinion on something, or quietly accept a situation where those people are 'teaching' children. It is intolerable.

For the right it was as if a veil was lifted from their eyes. They knew there were disagreements with the left, but they didn't know that there was a widespread appetite for murder.

The difference to if this would have happened in the past is that the White House now, instead of having standard career politicans, has two brawlers in it. One who nearly got assassinated and the other who lost his friend in an assassination. This subject is not academic or theoretical to them, it's reality.

Honestly I think this is the beginning of a new epoch.

I love Bill Maher and his show. I don't always agree with him, but he talks to everyone and calls bullshit where he sees it, whether right or left. Also he can be pretty funny and spicy.

And the folks on the r/politics sub-Reddit absolutely hate him so you know he's doing something right.
 
I have had conversations with conservatives where I disagreed with 90% of what they said but they still treated me with respect. I have had conversations with leftists where i agree with 90% of what they say but they personally attack me over that 10%

I'm guessing you just can't process information, let me restate even simpler:
  • going after people who simply stated their intense dislike of Kirk or his views in some way is not justified;
  • going after random private individuals for their remarks is also not justified;
  • but there is one type of statement that should be acted on by all legal means of public pressure:
    • public officials (holding a government post of any kind) or school & university teachers,
    • who celebrated Kirk's murder openly in public messages or posts
  • in these cases, public pressure should remove them from their position
  • this is not a niche view; this is in fact happening in large numbers over the past days--and even at major US universities, who in each case have responded to say that they terminated the individual because celebrating a murder is unacceptable.

This sounds extreme but maybe it is time to split the country up. I think the idea of a 50 state America is done and a peaceful divorce would better than a violent fracture. It is sad but it is better than going the way of Sarajevo and Yugoslavia.
 
Why would private citizens openly celebrating and advocating for murder expect immunity from social consequences when that has never been the case before? You cannot publicly out yourself as a dangerous psychopath and then cry foul when other people say 'hey look everyone, this person's a dangerous psychopath'.

The people who simply posted some variety of 'kill x next' are lucky not to be facing criminal charges.
 
My ex, whom I'm still friends with, learned about Kirk's passing the day after it happened. She didn't know how he died, just that he was killed. She then found out they went to the same school and she posted something along the lines of, "WOW, Charlie Kirk was from my neck of the woods"

A lady she knew flew off the handle (admittedly I understand) at her calling her names for making fun of his death. If you knew my ex, you'd know she isn't on the news 24/7 and barely watches TV and isn't on Twitter. She barely found out WHO he was before posting. She explained she didn't know HOW he had been killed and was using a colloquial term and wasn't making a joke of his killing. The lady never apologized or came back to the post.

I know tensions are high still... There have been some tense posts in here. But civility has largely won out.

It's too far gone; it's gotten to the point where the existence of different think from the radicals means you must be killed.

it'll just end in far more assassinations and probably deaths with civilians because all they'll needa do is run back home to a safe space and there'll be no accountability.

The story is a bit sus. had 0 idea at all, did research to find out what school he went to, but somehow didn't see a single article of literally the biggest news story, and then just had to make a "neck" reference.

I wonder what can we do to keep the peace. It's very hard and complex lot of people are very cautious now. It is scary and dangerous.
