Apple Event - 'Awe dropping' | Sept 9, 10am PT

Had a day with my 17 Pro Max. Upgraded from 15 Pro (non max).

Biggest difference I've noticed is there is very little warmth to the touch anywhere on the phone doing anything. Huge difference vs. 15 Pro.

It's snappier on IOS 26 than my 15 Pro is.

I cased the thing immediately because I know the aluminum won't hold up like the titanium…

I like the physical button feel better than any phone I've ever owned.

Battery is unbelievably good. Should be worse considering iOS update and initial setup.

I've been really enjoying my 17 PM too. I've already gotten used to the slightly larger size vs my old 12 pro and having usb-c has already come in handy with being able to share chargers with a family member. Between usb-c, larger screen with 120hz, larger battery, better cameras, 2X the storage and RAM and cpu/gpu power of my old phone, this phone should last me a loooooong time.

We will see how AI developed over time. But AI is hungry for power and might make a lot of hardware obsolete quickly.

I'll be returning my Air on Monday, and waiting for my discount to reload to order a regular 17.
  • Beautiful phone, and the design really is stunning to hold and use but I actually dislike the thinness of the device as I don't feel like I have a good grip on it.
  • Battery life is questionable but it's not nearly as bad as you might think.
  • Speaker....holy shit it's bad and as somebody that does play music and podcasts out loud at home this is a big part of my decision.
  • It has gotten hot multiple times to the point it was sort of uncomfortable to hold. Once on a walk while listening to a podcast and browsing the web, and the other while trying out Destiny Rising.
That's fair enough. I think it depends on the user, there are a few factors that make the Air perfect for me.
  • The most intensive game I play on my phone is chess.
  • I listen to the radio and podcasts often but always with earphones.
  • I rarely take photos and when I do it's point and shoot. I don't care about ultrawide or panoramic or whatever. I never recalled asking for a massive bump with 3 lenses in the first place.
I'm looking at 60% battery after 24 hours on my first full charge, so there might be more in there once it optimises the battery for me personally and it might still be indexing too. That's a 2 day battery life, pretty much the same as my 14 Pro Max.

Yeah, I definitely think it'll be the perfect phone for some people.

I think if I really liked the size and thinness I could deal with some of the other things more but while I thought I would love it I actually think I like the thickness of my old phone more (15 Pro).

Got my 17PM. Replaced my previous 14 Pro. Love the speed and size of my phone. I can actually type without smashing multiple letters at a time. The AI features are nice and the camera is more than sufficient. But CarPlay seems to be wonky but I'm assuming I need a good cable.

I have locked her inside a nice case with a tempered screen protector where she will live for the next 3 years like the iPhones before her. 14 pro is heading back to Verizon in near mint condition.

One other thing I noticed about the Airpods Pro 3, in the case they're so much lighter than the 2s. They must be using a lighter battery or magsafe magnet.

Ngl I'm actually impressed with the quality of the iphone air. I was genuinely expecting it to be another bendgate

But taking just over 200lb of force to bend, damn. (Plus having the specs of the pro instead of the base/plus models is honestly making me considering to upgrade)

Got an air myself man it's nice. Kinda a side grade for me, my brother wanted the 16 pro max I had so traded his in for this then he took my phone.

Still rocking an IPhone 11. Whenever I do upgrade, I'm going to be nerding all over the place.

My iPhone Air is burning 4% battery an hour. In airplane mode. When not used. My wife's is the same. Something is off.

I would consider getting a new one. I've used mine more today and I'm still on track for 2 days.

Don't give him false hope. 3149 mAh battery for the Air vs. 4252 mAh battery for the Pro Max obviously tradeoffs had to be made to accommodate such a thin phone. With heavy use it should last about 12 hrs according to multiple YouTube reviews.

Read again, he said he has it in airplane mode with the screen off.

Ok so I did a 24h burndown test where I didn't use the phone practically at all. Essentially all background refreshes for apps were disabled.

Airplane mode consumed 0-2% in an hour, cellular+wifi 4% per hour.

830am = 100%
930am= 100% - Airplane mode, no use
1030am = 100% - Airplane mode, no use
1130am = 97% - cellular+wifi, no use
1230pm = 93% - cellular+wifi, no use
130pm= 91% - Airplane mode, no use
230pm = 89% - Airplane mode, no use
330pm = 84% - cellular+wifi, no use
430pm = 80% - cellular+wifi, no use
530pm = 76% - cellular+wifi, audio 20min
630pm = 73% - cellular+wifi, no use
730pm = 70% - cellular+wifi, no use
830pm = 67% - cellular+wifi, no use
930pm = 64% - cellular+wifi, no use
1030pm = 62% - cellular+wifi, no use
1130pm = 57% - cellular+wifi, no use
1230am = 53% - cellular+wifi, no use
130am = 48% - cellular+wifi, no use
230am = 47% - cellular+wifi, no use, night
330am = 45% - cellular+wifi, no use, night
430am = 43% - cellular+wifi, no use, night
530am = 41%- cellular+wifi, no use, night
630am = 40% - cellular+wifi, no use, night
730am = 39% - cellular+wifi, no use, night
830am = 38% - cellular+wifi, no use, night

This also allowed me to see what the system says has used that 62% of the battery. Turns out half of it is Sonos background activity, which was disabled (!!!). There are also some other apps that have it disabled.

So my working theory is that there are misbehaving apps that

1) use way more battery on the background than they should
2) ignore the background refresh disabled setting

I will now aggressively uninstall apps and see what happens.

After using the Air at work, battery will suit me fine. Was at 41% at end of my day with medium usages (much more then I normally use phone at work). My 16pro max usually mid 50s low 60s.

If was going on a trip I'd bring a power bank or get the battery for it.

How was everyone able to get a iPhone 17 so soon? AT&T says it will be November before they send me one.
I think I got a bad deal with AT&T, They want me to sub to the most expensive monthly plan as well as trade in old phone. :(
I should probably cancel the order and just walk into Bestbuy and get one there instead.

Upgraded from an iPhone 8 to the 17 pro.

It's a rocket ship. Battery life is great.

AirPods Pro 3 coming in about a week and a half.

Welcome to the 2020's for me!

They're available in the Apple Store today.

I'm going to wait for iPadOS 26.1 at least until I update my iPad Pro M1. Unfortunately very few things excite me a out the new OS.

Until then I'm having too much fun finding Apple-related pics.

My 17 Pro Max arrived on Monday, I haven't had time to set it up, so it's still sat in the box. But my AirPods and phone case still haven't been shipped, and it's projected to arrive between the 29th Sep - 6th Oct. Wtf.

for you, or anyone else here upgrading from a regular past Pro to a Pro Max, how is it? I've had friends complain its too big in the hand, but others say they could never go smaller. I have yet to see one in the wild to hold, but I did see a 17 Air and even though its only a tiny bit bigger screen than the 17 pro, it felt much bigger, making me kinda want a Pro Max (the Air felt AMAZING! But I need the cameras on the Pro line)

Come on Apple (and Samsung), if Tecno can squeeze a 5200mAh into their Tecno Slim then I'm sure you can fit one into your thin phones

I upgraded from 12 Pro to 17 Pro Max. To me the size is great and it didn't take long at all to adjust. I operate it just fine with one hand like before and I like having the extra screen real estate. This is my first Pro Max but I don't see myself going back. I feel like the size difference is smaller than I was expecting though. It feels slightly larger to me.

I've had large phones before so not a huge deal… but some usage you'd probably have done with one hand can become a 2 hand thing. I personally don't mind it at ALL… but some people have picked mine up and said "woah.. huge!"

I think you get used to it in 48 hours and then just think constantly about how great your battery is.

Have any of you bought the 40-60w dynamic power adapter?

With my old 12 Pro just charging it off of my macbook pro usb-c port was fine but with my new phone I noticed it was going slowly and mentioned Slow Charging on the screen so I switched to my 20w power adapter and that's been significantly faster. Then I remembered that this new adapter just came out which should be basically twice as fast and now I'm thinking about just paying the price for fast charging.

I have the same issue from that iOS 26 update for my 15 pro max. Phone is burning hot and burns battery like crazy. Only when I leave the house and on 5G though.

This is me browsing gaf in bed for a bit

I am leaning towards crap software - with 5G and Bluetooth the main suspects, so I am not stressed yet about the lack of acknowledgement that burning 57% of battery in 3.5h is abnormal. I will wait for a couple of OS updates and if that doesn't work my phone will take a hard fall.

Turns out my local eSIM I got yesterday had automatically 5G enabled so that is coming off.

When I'll get to the office next week I'll take screen grabs.

I feel bad for you guys just come on over to the dark side. We have 100 watt wired charging, 50 watt wireless charging, 6500 mAh batterries and as an added bonus you'll be immune to peer pressure and status.
