FF7 Rebirth is selling well, third game won't be scaled back, development progressing smoothly, game content complete

This is just what I was about to ask and you answered the question for me, thank you.

What Final Fantasy 16 did that was annoying was to include the filler in the main story. As long as FF7 R's is optional, then I'm perfectly fine with a bit of content bloat.
Yeah, I didn't finish XVI although I thought it was ok. Rebirth is miles better.

You need to do one of certain activities as part of the story (as to expose you to them) but actually completing the whole map is completely optional, same with the hunts and all of that.

I think it's worth it but tbh I'm a FF7 fan so I might be biased.

Looking forward to part 3.
I have issues with Rebirth, specially regarding the story and writing, but overall really enjoyed my time with it. Still found it a more enjoyable game than FFXIII, XV, XVI and Remake Part 1.

Now if Square could make a new FF that's similar to Rebirth but:
- Is a standalone story that's told completely within one single game
- Doesn't feel like it's written by and for 12 years old
- Makes exploration a bit better and less Ubisoft-like

I like Rebirth, but man, is it bloated as fuck.

Edit: Also Square, can we get some news about Dragon Quest 12 and Kingdom Hearts "4"? Come on!

I also liked Rebirth and I agree. I prefer the linear style of Remake overall more. Also the story just seemed to be going nowhere just constantly following those dead guys.

At this point most of us know the direction this game is going, if some of you guys still get upset why part 3 not gonna follow the original story line then thats entirely on you.

You either onboard with this or you are not and if you are not then I suggest you to skip part 3.

I loved Remake and Rebirth, best FF games since X. I did enjoy the combat better in Remake, but everything else in Rebirth was a huge step up and made me feel the scale of a true AAA modern JRPG.

The only criticism I have is the bloat sidequests from Remake and Rebirth chapter 11, which I have to believe was a huge mistake.

I'm constantly amused that the bloat many people here complain of is really just your inability to control your impulses of completing every little task.

FF7:ReB was almost perfection outside of weak optional Ubisoft tasks.

Thought about it and I now think they are holding back because of wanting to focus on marketing Part 1 on Switch (and Part 2). But that won't affect the timeline of Part 3's release.

Still say the release will be Jan 31, 2027 or somewhere close to it.

I'd just play for the combat. The Walt Disneyification of FF7 is pretty sad. When you think about how they butchered the original story beats and how they changed characters like Cid to chase a lower age rating it betrayed a lot of the fans of the original since FF7 was a more serious and steampunk kind of story.

Once the party crossed that portal the writers basically said they are going to do whatever they want since the continuity the end of Remake and all of Rebirth takes place in is completely different compared to the OG timeline.

In addition to it probably leading up to Advent Children.

I think this video sums about a few of the problems with how it differs in art direction and tone compared to what we have now.

I hope they remove the fluff, cause doing the same shit on every region got old FAST, I quit half through Gongaga and I'm not motivated at all to go back and finish it :/

Third game not scaled back? Thats not what I wanted to hear. Rebirth was way, way bigger than it needed to be. The scale and recycled content didn't add much to the game and in fact detracted from it.

Not scaling it back means more Chadley, MAI and Ubisoft Towers. Can't wait.

Fuck Chadley

Reading about this game makes me feel that it's editing some side quests away to getting a 95 and a GOTY for part 3.

That's great news. Can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope they kinda cool it with mini games in the next one. They're not bad, but shit got out of hand.

They should for 100% cut Chadley and reduce his relevance. And remove these towers entirely. Just let players progress the map. And don't fill it with so much useless stuff. Why did every single region need a carbon copy checklist?

Keep minigames out of the main game, though snowboard and submarine are okay and quite essential.

true, i hate how most of endgame battle happen in VR setting, we go from SNES to PS1 to have 3D background for godsake, stop make me fighting in that boring background

Funny thing is, i dont know if it's a pc version bug or if the VR Battle Map is just a f'ing huge ressource hog but my usual 120 fps get sliced in half to 60-70 as soon as it renders that map.

Loved Rebirth, it was one of the main reasons I got a PS5. Excited for the next one too; gonna be interesting to see how they wrap up certain storylines.

Well obviously he's not going to say the game's going to be shit. I liked the first two but these are hollow statements.

I kinda hope the final game has more "bloat." Rebirth felt like a huge adventure with tons to see and do. Reunion should be even bigger.

I would also hope for even harder VR battles since as the final game it should have the most challenge, but it seems people were pretty upset about the crazy VR battles as well as the huge range of minigames. Or at least they were upset they were required for the platinum.
