Microsoft is running reconnaissance

I have been saying this for years. It was obvious this is how MS intends to get competitive advantage over Sony. It was also one of the reasons why they decided to release all their games on PC.
I am looking forward to competition between MS PC, Valve PC and Sony console.

Why do yall KEEP falling for this roller coaster of information like this? Will it be true? Probably most of it, but clearly......and I mean CLEARLY Jez is leaving out the parts or doesn't know the parts that will make this a tough pill to shallow.

This sounds like a licensing nightmare. I was under the impression this wasnt possible. You cant just put this CPU in a PC and let it run Series X / XBox games etc. THats why I thought it had to be a console environment. Well. Colour me surprised.

I swear if they somehow have made that work, so that I can buy my next X3D chip with the XBox hardware on it, then that would be SICK!
Difference would basically be full BC which MS will only be able to do if the box (or mode in it) is labeled Xbox. Otherwise licensing shenanigans will kick in.

Prebuilt SFF PCs are being sold at prices $2000 and above.

No subsidies required for it to be cheaper than those. Unless you're assuming it's massively more powerful than the equivalent PS6.

This thing will play your console games. Your PCs will not 😆
Man, the Xbox portable PC which I believe is Microsoft's first step toward this new format, costs a 1000 bucks and still performs worse than cheaper competitors. Now imagine how much that so-called Xbox desktop PC will cost.

According to Sarah Bond, it's supposed to be something "premium," so yeah, obviously expensive. And if you think about it, looking at the ROG Ally X as a real-world example, you'll probably be able to get something just as powerful or even better for less money, without the weird Xbox license and that so-called backward compatibility.

GTA 6 has been confirmed for Series X.
After we have seen for the last months, what value does a confirmatiion holds ?! Ill repeat for the third time: If this MS strategy double crosses Rockstar stragegy, I WONT be surprised that a xseries GTA VI is postponed or even cancelled. It's a matter of money, pure and simple. Im noy saying GTA VI is a PS5 exclusive... but given the money involved and the potential double dip money... i won't be surprised if that is the case.

Needs to be seamless like SteamOS, not like ROG Ally X.

I saw a video of a Giant Bomb guy having issues logging into his device. It was stuck on the Windows sign in screen where you enter the pin. Ghetto as FUCK.
I think you are speaking of Jeff Gertsmann. His latest (Jeff Gertsmann Show) has the full rundown of everything wrong with the Ally X if not covered in the video. Sad and hilarious. Cracking up in my car while listening to it.

Might look into it. p

Prsonally for me, the appeal is a no issues prebuilt hardware in a sleek form from a trustable company.

But it also depends on how they price it. If it is more expensive than equivalent hardwares from other companies, than it would be a no for me.

So it's a console without the benefits of a console (price, exclusives, physical games) and a PC without the benefits of a PC (raw power, customizability, upgradability). I'm sure the number of people this appeals to is...non-zero, but is there really that much demand for something like this?

But then, what do I know? The value proposition for portables is similarly baffling to me for most use cases, and those seem to be getting popular here.

And you forgot the biggest issue......price. There's no way this thing will cost less than $1,200.

Also, the PC Portable space sells about 2.5 million units a year TOTAL! That's including all Steamdeck variants and all the ROG and Lenovo variants. It's not a large market.

Reading over the article again, this is the key thing Jez says. Taking his "sources" as gospel truth for an insane moment here......

Indeed, the Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X, with its Xbox Full Screen Experience, is essentially what the next Xbox will look like. It's not dissimilar to the SteamOS interface and Big Picture Mode, which allows you to exit out into full Linux at will. Similarly, the Xbox Full Screen Experience will allow you to exit out to full Windows if you want to, and run competing stores like Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft's own Battle.net, the Riot Client, and indeed anything else you want. Indeed, you could run Adobe CC or Microsoft Office on the next Xbox, if you so choose.

Where the Xbox console will differ from a traditional Windows PC is that it will feel like a traditional Xbox console out of the box. The onboarding experience will be similar to what you get today on console, and if you choose, you can remain fully inside the Xbox ecosystem, never touching Windows itself. Exiting out to Windows will be for those who want to access games traditionally not available on Xbox, including PlayStation games on Steam, mouse and keyboard-first games like League of Legends, or even classic games from GOG and the like.

As others have pointed out many times, this is Xbox's version of Steam Full Picture mode. Full-bore Windows. The interesting part is how are they going to implement "your entire Xbox console library" (Xbox consoles don't even do that). Will have to be emulation, I guess.

No it won't, my console is a PlayStation 5.

Which is an Xbox......

Plenty of laptops are not expandable or changeable at all. That doesn't make them less of a PC. If it runs an open operating system like Windows then you can do whatever you want with it. They are making money on the hardware so they don't care. Consoles have to make money on game sales so they prevent you from doing that. The PS5 on a hardware level is no different than many PCs so if it could suddenly run Windows then how would it not then just be a PC?

I know, I am just saying this device brings up an interesting convo. I want to know more. I wasnt trying to do any form of "Gotcha" or whatever I was wanting to discuss what is it.

To confirm, if this runs windows with a skin on top like a rog all x I will see it as a mini PC with pre defined specs. I just hope they can get me a new X3D chip with that Xbox silicone in it so I can build my own PC that lets me play all my legacy Xbox content.

I call the Rog Ally a Handheld PC, as does everyone else and that is fixed specs. I was just wanting to have the convo.

Are you team PC or team console?
I used to be team console, but over time, I've become team confused. I'm still inclined to believe HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 more than Jez as Jez's sourcing on MS has been super unreliable lately.

But S SneakersSO backed up these claims already as well, so... I don't know.

May be they are all just interpreting the same thing differently? It will certainly be marketed as a console and would look like one... with the lines being blurred so much, it's almost like it is whatever you want to call it.

That's fine bro. This was me having that convo with you. :messenger_beermugs:

It's not true 100% BC unless I can insert in an Xbox console disc (Original, 360, One, SX) and play it. Congrats to the digital only users since that's obvious enough, but it's all fud sounding to me.

Being able to run steam and other stores on your console is really nice.
Not sure who their consumer target is, though.

Totally delusional. GTA 6 wouldn't be available to most PC players. Only to people that buy this new device with the new chip, through Xbox BC. And even then, it wouldn't be the high spec PC version. Even if it was literally available to PC players, they would still be tempted to double dip to get the true PC version later. It risks literally nothing, and there's negative infinity % chance of GTA being canceled on Xbox.

It would only be multiplayer paywall for BC games so it's a bit pointless. People would just buy all future multiplayer games on Steam so they might as well drop it across the board.

And how is Microsoft going to make up that loss revenue and profit? Why don't you guys think some of these things true, before you believe them? At least make a case as to "HOW" MS will drop the multiplayer paywall, before believing the story.

I'm only saying this to some of yall to help you going forward, since some of yall can't see that you're being YoYo'ed again through Xbox Executive backstage marketing.

Will it really? Think about money, not from a gamer perspective. Rockstar KNOWS a lot of players double dip GTA. If this MS strategy breaks Rockstar double dip strategy, Im not 100% that we will have a xseries GTA 6 version.
Do you really think there's even an extremely small chance that Rockstar would decide to cancel the Xseries version? No, that's not going to happen, LOL. Especially when it's a game that almost every Xseries owner will buy.

GTA6 launches in 2026, and the next consoles won't come out until 2027+. By the time the question about the situation you describe comes up, there will already be a PC version of GTA 6, and I don't know where that XboxNext would be a problem for a supposed double-dip. In any case, it would be a plus because users of that XboxNext would be double-dip.

Just my 2 cents if it plays my old Xbox library and plays GTA 6 day one then I call it a console

The fun part is going to be seeing how long the DRM lasts before its cracked or circumvented!

I'd give it 6 months, tops!

This system will have high attach rate with gamepass.

Cannot imagine getting this but skipping on GPU.

Sounds great IMO. Steam, installing Pcsx2/RPCS3 on it? Getting the PS exclusives after 1-2-3 years? Free online?
Of course this thing will be expensive as hell but the value is there and if true, its something that we haven't seen before.
Sounds tempting, need to hear it all details from Microsoft. Let's see if Playstation can come with a few bangers for the PS6 now.
You can have this right now if you buy a gaming PC. All of the above is present.

BC would be the missing piece that MS is addressing with the new device it seems.

Will be the Xbox PC OS so efficient like a Console only OS?
It sounds so that you'll get Windows 11 with an "overlay".
Similiar to the Xbox Ally, which runs way better with a linux OS instead of the "MS Xbox experience".

Why should someone buy a Xbox Magnus instead of a normal PC?
A PC with a 5070Ti or rx 9070 xt and an Intel Core i5-14400F costs atm 1200 $. Maybe even a bit less and that's today.

I can't see any kind of benefit in that Xbox PC.

I'm thinking for the next generation I'm actually going to stay with what I've got for now. I really didn't see that big of a jump graphically between Xbox one and series/PS4 and PS5, but the use of SSD's was what made me upgrade faster. Unless something really stands out as being a huge game changer for next generation, I'll just do the cross gen games.

If there will be no more "xbox" versions of games moving forwards then it's a PC.

In that context, framing not having to pay for online gaming as some sort if win is insane.

lol RIP SneakersSO

Why RIP S SneakersSO ? What did he say wrong? Everything he's said so far about MS has come true. I think the only thing we are still waiting on is the Starfield PS5 announcement.

Pretty much if it comes with an APU, they are banking on you getting a new machine in about 3-5 years' time I would imagine, depending on how current you want to stay. Probably 5 years max before aging and creakiness really sets in.

There's no way MS would project a 3-5 year lifecycle for a $1,200 machine.

MS clearly hopes to at least sell games in their Windows Store (only thing present in Xbox experience mode) as well as hook folks on GPU.

No it was the Dan guy. Rhyker or whatever his last name is.

Told ya it was gonna be a PC. MS will do what they have to do with shifting licenses around behind the scenes. Pubs aren't in a position to put up too much of a fight about it.

They won't dictate that themselves but if people are playing on Steam, Epic, etc, and pc game requirements rise substantially, the machine will show its age. If Microsoft is just licensing to vendors why would they care.? You buy a new machine and Microsoft makes money. It kind of sounds like a conspiracy, I get that. If you are on the Xbox side, you probably are safer and Microsoft appreciates you, if you buy it for the other storefronts side, well Microsoft will just shrug it off as that is not their responsilbity.
PC Gamers can run out and get a new card. You probably will not be able to get a new APU for this Xbox machine.

If it really works as well as a dedicated console and doesn't compromise the PC aspects which I doubt then it would be essentially an everything machine. Depending on price, I might get this instead of upgrading my PC. I just don't believe Microsoft can execute it.

Sounds like the built some loophole into the new architecture that lets your console games run on it without having to screw around with licensing.

It's important so soporr people with investments tin an Xbox library potentially going back to 2005. But it's also not terribly feasible to support a small userbase that's not expected to grow with a whole console. So a friendly px that could -maybe- pass as a console.

I don't think it's going to pass though. Steamos isnt just a desktop starting in big picture mode. It's. Little more complicated than that. MS is never, ever, going trelease a version of windows with the garbage stripped out. I know some people think they will, but that would be a much better windows and people would find out how to use it over standard windows because it would be objectively better. That would be a big " fuck no" from the brass.

I think you'll end up with something a lot more like the rog ally setup. They can program megafans to go around saying it's a console but I'd wager they aren't really fooling even them.

For PC hardware 5-years is usually toward the longer range for upgrades.

Think of it this way, in 2019- 2020 we had 2000 series as the mainstay. You probably should upgrade if you have a 2000 series GPU.

It will be emulation for OG Xbox and 360 of course. For Xbox One / Xbox Series it could be more translation ala Proton vs emulation.

"Furthermore, thanks to new silicon from AMD (already approved all the way up to CFO Amy Hood and CEO Satya Nadella), the new Xbox will also run all games currently available on the Xbox Series X|S library. This means all the OG Xbox back-compatible games, all the Xbox 360 back-compatible games, all the Xbox One back-compatible games, and all the current and future Xbox Series X|S games. These games will run natively on the new Xbox and launch seamlessly via the Xbox launcher's library."

Seems Jez went from "entire Xbox console library" in the title to "back-compatible games" in the article.

I don't think Xbox One/Series would need a translation layer. They are already DirectX. Probably have some low level mode switching like PS5 does for PS4 games.

Just my 2 cents if it plays my old Xbox library and plays GTA 6 day one then I call it a console

If it doesn't have full backward compatibility with the Xbox SX, it's better not to release it.

The point is, Sarah Bond has already said that the model is from the Rog Ally, which doesn't have a retrofit.

Regarding Jez, zero confidence.

I bet no one has confirmed backward compatibility to him; he just assumes it's a "wish" and "guaranteed"
There's still a compromise: PC emulation and third-party authorization, just like the Xbox 360 retrofit on the Xbox One.

Why RIP S SneakersSO ? What did he say wrong? Everything he's said so far about MS has come true. I think the only thing we are still waiting on is the Starfield PS5 announcement.

There's no way MS would project a 3-5 year lifecycle for a $1,200 machine.

That is, if it's not a paper launch.

They make 500,000 units, and that's it. When they sell out, it's over. Anyone who wants more should wait for OEMs to order APUs from MS to build their versions, IF they exist.

For those who are buying, I recommend having the money set aside now and pre-ordering as soon as possible.
