What new hardware from Steam are you most excited about?

I'm not tech geek enough to care and most the games I enjoy playing are not high tech enough that would matter, I buy any system based games and games alone.

Also lets say even I was obsess with graphics, why would I buy Steam box which from I heard is weaker than base PS5 over getting proper PC?

This is me too. For example, I never played Tales of Zestiria, so I just booted it up on Steam. Looked in the PC gaming wiki, saw there was a "fix" program from 2016 that let me run it in ultrawide and at 60fps. The game only supported Xbox 360 controllers back then, so I set up Steam Input (pretty easy, a few clicks) and I was able to play it using the Dualsense. I mean, there's a PS4 port so I could have just put the disc in the PS5 and played that, but I'd miss out on the 60fps and ultrawide goodness. Since I have a Steam Deck, the cloud saves will sync over automatically too.

Yeah, not sure how it will fall for graphics, but it's crazy how all the games I'm queued up for or have recently played have been vastly more enjoyable on PC than console. FFX: HD Remaster (replayed on PC, much better QoL features than console), Dragon Quest XI:S (way better QoL than console again, thanks to some key mods), FFT: IC will be next, and again mods will fix my issues with graphics and also allow you to add back in the missing content / classes from WotL...

The list goes on and on. Games I play initially on console, are simply just better when I replay them on PC. Not just for graphics, but for simply fixes to make them more fun. And I guarantee you you're more tech savvy than my daughter, and she also appreciates the QoL improvements on PC - but of course if it's release day, the difference is usually in favor of consoles, which is where we tend to play those, but there's just too damn many improvements to be had on PC for me to ignore.

And something like the Steam Box will likely steamline the process, I hope! Even if it can't really go swinging on GTA6 at 60fps or whatever, the $2500 Asus version probably can haha.
 
Controller and Frame. GabeCube later if specs/price are decent and I can't be arsed building a new computer.

Steam machine for sure as long as it's around 500€ and the second steam controller (I hope one is bundled with the machine). Playing my steam library on a TV + streaming to the Deck in bed is a wet dream.
I cooled a bit on the Frame overnight- it's cool, and I would love to get into VR since after 30 years of gaming I pretty much played it all, but I don't see many quality experiences like HL: Alyx. Also the kids are too young for that for the time being, whereas the whole family can profit from the steam machine.

Controller is a definite after all it would be rude not to after waiting all this time after the initial leak so many moons ago.

Steam machine is a maybe, depends on how expensive it is.

VR is impressive but I still find no compelling reason to buy in to it at all.

I'm not saying PC doesn't have its advantages but those advantages are not enough for me that I'm willing to get in to PC gaming.

Like I said I buy any system purely based games and with PC some games either dont get released for it like Vanillaware games or they come much later and even some games have worse performance on PC unless you have powerful PC to force through it.

PC is great for people who want "customize" their gaming experience but for me I just dont care for it.

I really don't understand this argument together with "I want a plug and play experience". Like - do you guys not have a computer at work? It looks like any sort of complexity that goes beyond clicking two buttons on a controller and people go: "omg, too hard ".

Each to their own, this will be a good third system if its cheap enough for me, but does not caterer to my gaming habits enough to be a main system. I don't care for windows much myself but like I said it would be nice if they did a higher end version to give me a viable alternative.

Controller? 100%/ Touchpads are a blessing on my deck.

Frame? I love VR but LCD and video streaming instead of proper video signal is a big meh for me. Wireless is a non-factor, I play mostly sims on my current PS VR 2 setup. Plus it will probably cost well north of $500 while Quest and PS VR 2 could be easily obtained for $300 in near mint condition.

Machine? Honestly, and answer to a question nobody asked.

To be frank, I was way more excited about the whole range before reading the previews.

I dont know anybody else but for me its not about being hard or not and more about the fact I dont care for customization or mods, those features are not worth it enough that I'm willing to invest on gaming PC.

I'm more than happy with my console experience.

But that is not what PC gaming is about. I do no customization and barely any modding. For me it's cheaper prices and a host of gameplay options + lack of BS practices (paid MP) because there is more competition on an open platform.

I dont really play MP so that not much of issue for me, with Consoles I get physical copy which no longer option in PC anymore and with physical copy if I dont like the game or I'm done with it I can always trade it in.

Also with Consoles there are exclusives that I cannot effort to miss out, I value that over PC gaming.
 
I really want to see a review of the controller, the first Steam Controller was really great to play KBM games on the couch.

I'm not sold on the design of the second one though, trackpad seems smaller and it seems more like a console controller with a trackpad addon.

This is another one of those eye-opening threads on Neogaf that makes me realize how out of touch with reality this forum is.

Oh well. It's lots of fun to see/read the thoughts of video game enthusiasts regardless of how much sense their point makes.
 
Definitely the controller. Ok paper it's everything I've been asking for for years.

I still remember when a Valve employee asked us for feedback on the original controller in a thread here and a feature I asked for was implemented. Used it every single time I used the controller.

Might even buy 2 on day one just to be safe. Probably won't, but it's not often I even have the idea.

Never used VR and it isn't a priority for me, and I already have a PC.

As others have said, it's desktop SteamOS being ready that also deserves excitement.
 
For now, it's the controller. In the future, the Steam Machine. If it's successful and new versions keep coming out, it will be my next PC once my current 4090 build becomes obsolete.
 
Can't say I'm "excited" about any of them, but I'm definitely curious about the VR thing (Steam Frame, I think?).
What's the price point, the specifications, etc.
 
For me it's the Frame, my Index is currently sitting inside its box for almost a year now because managing its cable got more tiresome each time I played.
Fortunately I don't play high demanding games, so I'm cool with the contained specs of the Machine too, it would be great if I could place it in my living room and do VR there because I have way more space than my game room.
 
The Steam Machine and the controller (which I hope will be sold together).

I had a Steam Deck but I was using it docked most of the time, and had to sell it when I got the Portal + Switch 2, so a 6x more powerful Steam Deck is all I need to play my Steam Library.
 
The controller is exactly what I have been wanting for years: 4 back buttons, capacitive TMR sticks, good gyro, long battery life, and fully programmable within Steam. 2 touchpads is just some incredible icing on the cake.

Now, I would have preferred Xbox layout, but until I actually get my hands on it, I'll trust Valve's decision.
Also I wish it had physical hair trigger stops.
