I also don't like those terms, but I couldn't think of a different one.
I'm mostly going by the reactions from my friends, personally. And the independent consensus we've all seemed to make is that the quippy Marvel NPC is about the least-Metroid thing they could put in a game like this. I think Arlo, who usually has very positive and optimistic takes, says it best in his video. Starting around 6:30
I think it's fair to say there is a wide consensus on the inclusion of that character, and that everyone pretty much hates it. The divide in opinion comes from whether or not we think this will "ruin" the game, but I think it's a bit more nuanced than that.
Like, for me, a singular cringey character like that won't ruin the game by itself. (It might sour it, for sure.) But it's more than I'm shocked Retro even put it in the game in the first place. It makes me worry that there might be some overarching, fundamental misunderstanding of what makes a Prime game so great.
I don't want them to simply re-remake Prime 1, but I also want them to stay in that lane for the most part. We simply do not get any games like those anymore, and if Prime 4 stuck closely to the Prime 1 formula, while offering new abilities, a new world to explore, new lore, and some unique gameplay gimmicks, I'd personally love that. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like that's what most of us are craving.
Same. I was firmly in the "cautiously optimistic" camp until this latest hands-on preview.
