Sega Hikaru emulation finally fixed; the Sega hardware you never (probably) played

Hikaru was an interesting platform; half a Dreamcast on the CPU side with full custom silicon on the 3D side of things...making it more powerful than Dreamcast or NAOMI and just slightly less powerful than NAOMI 2 and holy shit is it a DELICATE board. They break if you breath on them wrong. But any board that has Planet Harriers, the sequel to Space Harrier that never got ported to any home console...along with multiple Sega arcade racing games that also never saw ports...needs to be playable

so Demul, the abandoned Dreamcast / NAOMI emulator that hasn't seen an update in like eight years...updated yesterday with brand new Hikaru emulating making all the games fully playable via emulation for the first time ever. It's not perfection yet but honestly it's good enough for "government work" and you can def have fun

An early xmas gift for Sega fans

Wow, Demul! Last version was 8 years ago.

Where's the source of this version? The main site and Russian forum still have the old 2018 version.

I didn't even know Space Harrier had a sequel, that's awesome! Pizza Hut near my old house growing up always had a machine.

I've been doing more emulation in the last 3 or so years, mainly catching up on all the games I missed during PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era, but I've touched so little arcade stuff.

I think the arcade in the mall I used to frequent had Planet Harriers. Was that the one with the nurse with a giant needle? Maybe I am nuts however.

Hikaru is the sort of hardware you would expect as the real Model 3 successor instead of the original Naomi 1. Powerful enough for the job and having innovative tech like phong shading. Stuff no hardware at home would be able to reproduce at the time.
