Marathon Server Slam CCU Watch

My guy, your math doesn't math.. This is when the numbers should be at their highest given it's free, to try a full game that has been hyped and anticipated like a new bungie game...the free week is when the magic happens.

If people are interested, they aren't going to skip the free week and pay full price instead and explode the numbers, come on
Arc Raiders server slam peaked at 189k. Full game peaked at 400k

Are you getting paid to shill for this game?
No, I'm not an idiot. I misread the day 2 for day 3 on the chart.

Now you, on the other hand, appear to be sharing a chart showing Twitch views in a Steam CCU thread. A chart that has nothing to do with CCU.

Arc raiders didn't drop to the lows this game has dropped to on its second day.

If this would've spiked to 200k and stayed above 150k, I'd say that's fine... 143k and can't even hit 100k on 2nd day is dog shit

I shared it because I thought it was useful context to show how strong the sustained attention has been around this game. I went ahead and removed it because fair enough this is a CCU thread.

That said, Arc Raiders maintained almost identical CCU across both days, whereas this game lost roughly half its player base over the same period. Ignoring or refusing to acknowledge that distinction feels disingenuous.

Anyone else with PSN can verify this because..

IMO, 81k is not bad. Trying to compare it to Arc Raiders feels fruitless.
It also didn't really have another beast to compete against Arc is beating Marathon in Steam CCU right now and that shouldn't surprise anyone.

Based on comments, I'd say this "server slam" did more harm than good.
Yea I think so because I may have tossed the 40 bucks out at it when it launched just out of sheer curiosity, I don't fret much buying games that I'm intrigued about I like to support devs as much as I can... But this saved me 40 bucks easily.

I like that they are improving the game every half a day or so as they receive feedback. The issue is the antiwoke crew has hated this game since they saw the bungie logo. It's less about the game tbh.

Agreed

I also think blaming it on competing with other games grossly overestimates how popular extraction shooters are. This is a niche genre and arc raiders was pretty much lightning in a bottle. Was not wise for Sony to chase this market IMO.

The 4th most played game on Steam right now is Arc Raiders. Would be 3, but RE9 just came out. I think it's fair to contrast this with the only other game in the genre anywhere in the Steam top 20 right now.

Forget other games. My guess is most of the people who tried Marathon and dipped play Arc Raiders. They were curious, joined the server slam, and decided they'd rather stick with Arc Raiders.

So you're right, it is niche, but it only means it shares a good chunk of it's potential player base with another game people vastly prefer right now.

Day 3 was still nowhere near 100k either. 100k was Monday... when people couldn't play the game anymore.
I said it was closer to 100k, not near 100k. 148,000 is closer to 100,000 than 200,000, my guy

That's true. This game could potentially be a success if Arc Raiders didn't exist. They're clearly competing in the same extraction-based space, and without direct competition it might perform well.

The issue is that the player base for this genre is relatively small. When you're operating in that kind of niche, you really have to stand out because you're competing for a limited pool of players.

I think it's less risky in other mid-sized genres, like Souls-likes, because those typically aren't live service games. They don't rely on sustained concurrent player counts in the same way, so the competitive pressure is different.

That is the biggest problem. Arc increased that amount, but I doubt most Arc players would ever install Tarkov. Funnily enough, the abysmal Marathon alpha last year is probably what got Arc it's huge audience.

The woke hates it too.

If I understand correctly the UI is a bit overwhelming with info? Could be a nice concept to explain all the "jacked in" future, sometimes you need to go with the flow. SMTV has absolutely barebones UI, but everything is incredibly logical and snappy, so it can go both ways.

Not Arc but not Concord/Highguard either.

Shroud and Peanut will play this for months!. Maybe not exclusively but quite a bit. That alone will provide a small modicum of success.

Game will sell a million or 2 . Steam CCU 2 months from now will be 25kish. Which is a fail but not total flop! Bungie will survive they will mostly move on and leave a small support team on this.

I'm at a loss why the UI is an issue, especially for those who played Destiny this isn't nearly as bad as the shit show that was/is. It is hilariously straight forward comparatively. But if you can't figure it out then yeah the game obviously isn't for you.

Bro, it's February 27th....

It's International Polar Bear Day and National Strawberry Day.

You can't expect people to be home playing games on important holidays like this.

I am confident tomorrow it will hit those numbers when all the festivities die down.
But in the 28th there will be Rare Disease day, International Repetitive Strain Injury Awareness Day, and World Sword Swallowers' Day. It's a big date. Maybe on march 1st?

On a tangent, I don't know why Marathon doesn't make up for a good viewers experience.

I think people are confusing bad UI with two separate criticisms. Some are saying bad UI for the on your face presentation and edgy contracts whatnot storytelling. While other are stating practical reasons how they can't seem to distinguish visually between loot and loot quality. I loved Destiny UI. So smooth silky and stylish. Division 2 is the real Menu hell.

To be fair people loved the original trailer. It is later the game went off rails.

I doubt it will reach 1m copies though. The server slam is free right? So those numbers in Highguard league.

If marathon is lucky it will end up with "Hunt - Showdown" numbers. Not a hit but not a flop either. Difference is that Hunt doesn't have to keep a giant studio alive that was bought for over 3 billion because the overlords thought it would print money.
If I was a developer at Bungie right now I'd at least make sure my LinkedIn profile was up to date.

The bigger question is, how many casuals even know about the game? So far I haven't seen any marketing from Sony while for their cinematics they plaster the entire city with posters.

Sony is not going to throw money away in marketing for a game that looks to have little appeal to the casuals.

Concord was a good lesson.
