Nvidia at Live GTC : DLSS 5

Lol damn, I'm just catching up with GAF and the internet's reaction to this, and I finally watched the actual video.

Honestly, I do think the RE9 DLSS 5 screenshots look okay, but every other game looks worse or weird. Specifically a lot of the character models' faces.

I kind of like what it's doing with ambient occlusion and environmental lighting for some of the scenes, but a lot of the other games seem just blown out.

But either way, the memes have been top tier so far lol.

To all the sceptics: Remember you don´t have to use it. It is a toggle in the graphics menu.

You know the reception is BAD when one of the most karen companies i know has to clarify its new annoucement HOURS after showing it...

I don't even understand what the point of being cynical is until it's out and as per the usual, they tend to improve things a hell of a lot. What track record do they have to go by? All of what you have seen before so I don't understand unless you are just wanting to hate for the sake of hating, you may as well exit the thread and boycott using dlss ever again but spare somebody like me of your overreaction. I'm actually excited about this kind of stuff because I love technology and advancement.

People cant have different opinions?

Keep moving the goal posts. That seems proportional behaviour to your intellect.
Which goal post moved?

I've only used RTX GPUs since 2018 since they get the best features.
I've only bought high core count ~$300 CPUs since 2022

I would love AMD CPUs if they were similar to how they used to be. $150 8-Core was awesome back in 2018, now you pay $300 for 8-Core (low core count today) or $500 for the latest gaming 8-Core. ABYSMAL!!!

But it's not working.....

If devs have complete control on it, why NVIDIA felt the need to create this kind of tech, nobody asked for?

The fundamental idea of this tech is completely wrong

I think the technology is cool, and it'll obviously improve over time. I understand the current backlash, but if it helps developers reduce development time and gives them more control over the ML models through set parameters, I think that's a great advancement for the industry. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is some truly groundbreaking stuff. The amount of kickback right now is wild, it's probably the largest graphical leap since 3d games went more mainstream ~30 years ago. I think as we hear more from developers that have worked with it we will have a better idea about what's going on.

That wasn't LLM AI. That was AI in the 1990s sense or how we would call opponent's on SNES mario kart 'AI'.

The AI we are talking about today like Gemini and ChatGPT hasn't figured out chess. It's pretty terrible at it.

LLMs are one type of AI. There are several others.
Deep Blue, which played chess, uses GOFAI. It used alpha-beta search, computational brute force, and knowledge manually coded by chess masters.
LLMs are text generators, they use deep neural networks, are trained on enormous amounts of text, and have billions to trillions of parameters. They learn to predict the next word. So it's not the type you'd use to play chess.
Something similar would be AlphaZero, which uses the same principle, but it was a blank slate. You gave it the rules of chess as a base. With machine learning, it learned to play and to be an excellent player.

Not sure how this relates. No one here is boycotting it, they just think it looks like shit

Once people get over Grace looking different due to lighting in this Nvidia pre-release demo and actually see what the game devs come up with it in the future, the opinions will change radically. Maybe not for those who don't have the hardware for it though. People are predictable. Just like with the "boycott COD" meme.

I really think if this was presented as the next path tracing version, people would have had a completely different take on how "shit" it looks. I think the response has everything to do with the current AI sentiment at large. Anything and everything suddenly "looks shit" when they are told it's AI.
