Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

The game is great tho, flawed but great, a diamond in the rough if you want.

Gta6 is gonna do many things better and many things worse.

Just saw this part. Interesting. I am not interested in this game anymore lol glad I didn't buy it. And to think some people thought it will pose a legit threat to GTA6 and even win goty over it!!!
Its one of the most beautiful and most infruriating games ive ever played. if you thought euro jank was janky, wait till you see south korean jank. the control schemes are obtuse, the menus impossible to navigate, the game mechanics completely unituivtive, i have never had to google how to do basic things before. im constantly stuck.

On the other hand, there are so many things it is doing right that other RPGs and games dont. I cant even list them all. This is a game that would be a dream game for me were it not for so many weird little oddities.

I think with time it will get better as they are listening to the feedback and acting accordingly. I mean I heard they will even patch the AI art in the game for fuck's sake lol. Once some of these bugs get ironed out I will tackle it but until then I dont think I have the mental capacity to deal with all that right now lol

Yeah I watched a video and Raytracing looks very underwhelming. Shame

Reflections also aren't very good...

And they fucked up implementation of DLSS (and maybe other upscalers), they are clearly doing something wrong with when it is applied in the pipeline - game is very aliased in motion (that would also explain why PS5 Pro version doesn't look good when it comes to IQ).

This guy (ex-Rockstar dev) breaks down the visuals and its oddities very well here. he's obviously blown away but also baffled by some of the choices made. The reshade he puts in just completely changes the grass for instance.

I'm thinking about going into DLAA+FG route for Crimson Desert, difference between DLAA and even Quality DLSS is really big here....

I mean, RDR2 shits all over this game!!!!!

They are bullshots and also use my reshade, not the vanilla. My opinion hasn't changed, RDR2 looks far, far better than CD. The RDR2 screenshots I posted on previous pages still haven't been matched by any open-world game in terms of overall impression.

Technically, CD is definitely far ahead of RDR2, but for me, art style is what truly determines whether a game looks beautiful or not (the best-looking game for me in recent years is ER).

Art is subjective. I can agree that for some people RDR2 might look superior to them.

But objectively that's not the case.

Without getting into subjective/objective platitudes and "art direction" vagaries, the reason RDR2 still looks outstanding despite its age is that it's the very rare game that doesn't trigger the "oh, that looks like a video game" part of peoples' brains. Yes it still has its own subtle stylization and art design, but overall it's going for a very naturalistic and realistic look that most games never achieve. The way the world is laid out, the landscapes, spacing and scale of everything is still second to none. There's countless minute reasons why, but it just doesn't scream "video game" in the way we're accustomed to video games doing. I've brought it up in the past but it's tough since we're now somewhere in the gray area between "art direction" and "fidelity".

To its credit, CD does a great job with interesting landscapes and overall avoiding that generic height-mapped rolling hills fake landscape feel that most open-world games suffer from (Linneman pointed this out in his hourlong unscripted vid and I agree, it's something I criticized AC Shadows for). But despite the scale of its map it still looks very compressed and video game-y and for lack of a better word, fake in a lot of spots, Not to mention aspects like the instant biome transitions that just pull me right out. It's doing some really cool stuff and we're going to see it become more refined over time, but there's a reason some people are still putting RDR2 ahead despite the generational difference in raw fidelity. Of course this is ultimately the fidelity thread and CD obviously wins out in a majority of aspects, but the issue is a little more complicated than simply preferring one game's "art style" over the other.
