Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

There are 1001 papers on inverse rendering for lightsource determination.
Long story short, the issue is ill-posed and approaches np hard if you have as little information as this model has at the point it currently comes into play. It's quite literally impossible, mathematically and from a runtime perspective, that this will ever deliver accurate results if it doesn't get an architectural rework with a full integration into the pipeline.

Just depends if the fudge factor of accuracy can produce results that are acceptable for the compute cost vs a high quality PT option. Theoretically it should be a viable alternative otherwise why go down this path at all if PT is the only acceptable way forward? But this goes beyond lighting too ofc.

To the average gamer's eye they may already be there apart from the unfortunate exaggerated studio portrait faces.

For anyone who missed it

Procedural Glass breaking simulation!

I wonder what other teams are working on?

- Procedural vehicle destruciton
- Procedural trees destruction
- Procedural g-string physics simulation for strippers
- Realtime digestive system simulation that makes you go number 2 after tacos

CD looks great in HDR, wish I could post the original HDR .jxl image, highlight/Sky blown out by converting to SDR.

Development on GTA 6 has to be hell for most of the developers. Working on the most miniscule of details, many of which will go unrecognized by the vast majority of gamers

yeah, its a shame how pc captures completely butcher the hdr image because of that stupid jxr format that isnt supported anywhere. this is not an issue on the ps5.

the conversion to sdr completely ruins the colors in my gifs and i hate it. the game looks so amazing in HDR and you just cant capture it. this shit looked amazing on my tv. the hdr on the helmet alone is amazing.

Just had the ugliest rain I've seen in my life. Dlss broke completely. It was literally pixelated. I could actually count the pixels. Maybe 240p internal resolution. How can they make these insane graphics and can't get dlss right?

The ray tracing indoors is also starting to straight up glitch. It still works in marble palaces but smaller wooden huts and mansions with wooden rooms have light leakage, poor shadows, and other dlss oddities. I was in a room so detailed and so well lit it might as well have been path traced but then the drapes started glitching and that was that.

Ok when crimson looks good it looks fucking good, i was in this location close to the sea, surrounded by high formations of wet rocks and it looked pretty great, very photorealistic.

How do i take decent quality pics without installing apps and while i'm in exclusive fullscreen? i think i heard people using f12? or maybe the ingame photomode? where does it save the pics?

Press the Win key plus G at the same time while gaming

Install this mod to get better Raytracing and Ray Reconstruction results.

I wanted to immediately reject that notion until I remembered that even half the gaffers around here have severe Mr. Magoo syndrome when it comes to DLSS5 and how it completely butchers lighting directionality and tonality (so far). :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Heck quite a few idiots here still refuse to accept that DLSS5 does full faceswaps including changes to the geometry.

its way better than rdr2 in terms of a living breathing world. rdr2 has a completely empty world outside of main towns and st. denis. its very rare to run into npcs and other horse riders.

in crimson, you cant go a few yard without seeing a bunch of NPCs doing something. the world is packed with NPCs irrespective of whether you are in a town or in the wilderness.
In terms of npcs numbers sure, in terms of everything else? Nah.

I think that's selling the game short, i'm actually very impressed by the little details in the game.
It was a joke actually, did the latest patch fix the control's? And make the game easier, that's what I read and that would certainly make me more interested if it's not as frustrating.

Apparently there is auto exposure bug in Crimson Desert that makes everything very bright, including nights

Wrong Auto Exposure

Right Auto Exposure

RenoDX Team is working on a fix that will probably release today. The pictures I provided are not final btw, they are still working to tune it properly but the autoexposure is just broken and not working as it should

They have made a lot of rendering fixes too that are available and fix a lot of inconsistencies with RR, DLSS and the lighting in general, especially interiors. Chromatic Aberration and sharpening are removable as well thanks to this mod and they are working to get a fix for the shitty LOD too although they say its a difficult task but they are trying

Definitely recommend following these guys, they are basically fixing the game

What was that? I can't access your link

This is the reshade addon for the game

In order to use it you must download and install first Reshade with addon support, you dont need to install addons or anything just click on the game and press next to everything.

Then download this file
And put it in the exe. When you launch the game open reshade and you will see a tab like this and you can adjust everything you want. The rendering issues fixes are on by default. If you want to be up to date with this mod you should join discord and follow them

Important notes, this mod only works with HDR on

So.....I enabled the new NVME driver meant for Windows Server.
Apparently, Windows' storage calls are/have all been actually going through a SCSI protocol?

So this new driver is meant to be true NVME. (Linux has already been doing this, for some time).

And it pretty much literally cut my Crimson Desert load time in half.

Nani?

DLSS 5 is absolutely incredible.

The crow will be served cold.

Overall it looks good, but when I notice that it works in "screen space" (characters moving are breaking AO) - ugh.

Give me Path Tracing.

Its interesting, if you look at the picture from the phone, you wont see shit. If you use your monitor or tv in the computer, the image looks right. I am not sure why this happens but I recommend you watching the picture in the computer or tv

I have fully correct RGB settings

And to me it look like that:

Edit: It looks better in HDR mode desktop. But I guess "more realistic" will go against "better gameplay" here. I kinda like that colorful nigh the game has in HDR.

If you wanna see a cool horse related "animation" use the healing palm strike on him...

I had to bring this up from another thread because this looks fucking incredible! The gun model & her face under DLSS 5 are a huge generational leap it's actually nuts!
I understand why people hate on the tech -- but watching that full 11 minute clip its clear that it makes Starfield look better in all respects and doesn't fundamentally change the vibe.

I don't even see why this game is hyped up so much in terms of gfx.
Just saw the PC / Console comparison videos and the game just looks pretty meh to me except for the cutscenes.
Lighting is flat even with RT on in the PC port. Objects seem floaty.

Horizon 2 looks more impressive on the same engine (for gameplay).

Finally got around to Crimson Desert last night, as well as other games on PSSR 2.

Wow man. The IQ boost is MASSIVE coming from a base ps5. Feels like I entered a new generation.

Crimson Desert looks fucking phenomenal.

Space Marine 2 looks fucking phenomenal.

Black Myth: Wukong looks fucking phenomenal, I could shed a tear. :messenger_sad_relieved: mad i never played it looking like this, id love it even more than i already do

Starfield looks the best out of all the demos precisely because they dont completely change the art style.

But i legit laughed out loud at that guy with the mullet. Yes, he looks real now but such a goofy looking dude it made burst out laughing.

I played Crimson Desert last night, then hopped straight into Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC right after to do a comparison.

And nahhh.. CD is a few notches above. You gotta see it running for yourself at the highest level of fidelity you can afford. really is stunning

Except character rendering and cloud tech.

its funny how far ahead GG was when it came to this stuff. And not just rendering, i love their dialogue sequences that feel so natural. Crimson Desert devs had to mocap every single quest cutscene which is very impressive in a large 100-150 hour game full of side quests, but the fact that GG devs just wrote an algorithm that handled those dialogue scenes by itself is nothing short of extraordinary. And that too way back in 2022.

It's a shame they wasted the last four years on a fucking GaaS game. I imagine they wouldve easily created something that topped Crimson Desert in every aspect. Especially since Crimson Desert despite its amazing tech still has glaring issues with pop-in, ray tracing glitches and image quality. I am going to turn off RR today and check it out. The red devil fight was pretty much impossible to follow thanks to the poor DLSS implementation. i dont think i can continue playing the game with this many visual issues.

Dont agree at all about what you say about image quality. In fact in Balanced Mode on the Pro it feels like the best IQ ever on PS5, it's even cleaner than RE9. You've got to see it to believe it.

I logged onto the HDR Den Discord, the night renderings are fabulous, real nights. (y)

Reed devil fight looked very good with DLSS 4.5. it's godly when it comes to foliage.
