Mediocre... we are talking about the most ambitious open world game since years, with the best graphic ever right now, and a combat system that is better than 99% of other games.

The only mediocre thing is the story... I dunno cause I skipped everything I could, story in videogames is like story for a porn movie.

If they had refined the control system this would have been considered the second coming of christ.

But no, there is no yellow paint, and no handholding so it is bad...

You're just proving his/her point.

I refuse to believe anyone with eyes believes this is anywhere close to the best combat in a video game.

I think its mediocre but while yes the game looks amazing , the gameplay is just fine to me , definitely not the best combat ever :P . This is just me , but a great game needs good gameplay and good story.
Well the combat is better than Witcher 3. Both at launch had bad controls or they are not the best. Both at launch had bad inventory or problems with it. Sure Witcher 3 has a better story and quest or side quest but Crimson does some things better than W3. They fixed the controls or made it better and also the inventory in later updates but at that time I already finished W3. I enjoyed those update with the DLCs

I agree with this though. Even if for me the combat in Witcher 3 is fine , Crimson Desert is definitely better.

What if he just didn't like the game that much

Sure, thats fine for a random poster in a videogame forum but not for a "pro" gaming journo.

Videogames, like every other creation, are measurable from an objective POV, both technically and artistically, you can't say "subjective" or "not my cup of tea" and leave it at 6.

The insanity of the reviews of this one is easy to demonstrate by checking out other games within its same score range. None of them comes close in scope or technical achievement, the comparisons to Avowed or Veilguard speak volumes.

A professional critic can never claim Fast and Furious is better than The Godfather, no matter how much he hates italian mafia movies.

That's his grift/schtick, really.
No, not always.

He is positive a lot of times or he just make a semi-serious review, but he is treating crimson like he treat skull and bones or mindseye.

I was expecting a bit more from him when it comes to a game for gamers like crimson.

Its just my opinion though :P , Im really not trying to argue.... I think its a mediocre game , and people getting dolido over someone saying this is funny to me.

I think that so many known posters (not neo accounts) are praising the game - is quite fucking telling. Most of us weren't born yesterday, we can see the difference between good game and shite.

Fuck the frozen in place 1994 NPCs in Avowed :pie_roffles:

And in OW2. I thought we are fucking regressing compared to 200x and 201x games...

I can tell you what's mediocre

Dragon Age Inquisition

For all it's talk of folks saying "oh its just a singleplayer MMO" (as if that really means anything, when was the last time we saw that Kingdoms of Amalur?)

Now there's a game thats a fucking slog with horrible writing, level gating main quest content, horrible sidequests and zero cool cutscenes

And it got 9's and 10's out the wazoo

Oh yeah and the combat in that game is trash too for an RPG

The damage control is coming from the naysayers. The Crimson Desert true believers have all the momentum. We only need to keep talking about it's greatness and success from here on out. There's nothing they can do to stop us.

Cohh literally just repeating what dunkey said 8!!! Years ago

He talked about the issue I have with IGN and other gaming sites. The reviews are decentralized making it less transparent.

I can't take reviews from those sites seriously. Especially when you have like a 20% chance the reviewer is trans now. Ha! I'll stick with my YouTubers and my own eyes.

Wait, what happened to Cohh's video...

It's a fully retarded opinion, and you knew exactly what kind of response you'd get.

The defense force for mediocre games will never cease to amuse me lol.

The amount of hype its getting by most people to what the game actually is... It's not the worst game ever, but calling the GOTY so far is hilarious to me.
So you played how many hours?

Around 5... can't wait for the "ahh you didn't play it enough , it really starts to get good after 10+" excuse :P.

Why you still here?

As are people who like the game. But if you are going to give them the "defense force" label for doing so then really silly to be defensive over people giving you shit in return. Seems you want it both ways.

Awkward John Krasinski GIF by Saturday Night Live
That's fair , I should have been more clear, the defense force comment was meant for people who are super overhyping this game and calling it the best game ever and insulting people who don't agree (like with BOTW when it came out).

I just posted what I think, nothing more.

I respect all opinions, but the transport method matters. Coming in here just to be a contrarian using troll rhetoric shows you aren't actually interested, you're just looking for attention. And that's ok, because then I can call you out on it.

Is this sarcasm

It should not take more than 5, 10, 15, or 20+ hours for a game to start to entice you or get good. Acting like that's not a failure on the developers part is disingenuous, when so many other games within this genre were able to achieve entertaining the player and respecting their time within the first hour of the game. If a lot of people quit the game because they found the first 5 hours boring, confusing and convoluted, then make a better "tutorial" next time.

This is the Review Thread, not the OT. This is the place to talk about reviews, criticisms and personal opinions on the game.

True but if one doesn't like the game, after voicing their opinion they should move along.
Nah can't do that. Something about this game lives rent free in their head and now that the game is exceedingly doing well and sold over 3 mil, this rubs them in a wrong way and have to come back to voice their opinion again as if it matters after the first time.

If a tutorial is more than 5 hours... then damn.

I mean its an open world game. Gta V still has you doing new stuff at 10 hours too.

Hogwarts legacy has a lot of hours tutorializing the game

Witcher 3 the entire first region is basically a 'tutorial'

Edit

Not to mention RDR2

Have you played both?

300 hours of botw, 4 hours of crimson desert. Correction, probably like 700 hours of botw lol.

BotW felt natural instantly. Crimson desert felt bad the entire time. But oh well. I have no issue waiting for kinks to be ironed out.

You say "similar" and AI says this: "Crimson Desert features a more complex and non-standard control scheme compared to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, often requiring multi-button combos and context-sensitive inputs that critics describe as unintuitive and clunky. While both games share similar design philosophies—such as stamina-based running, climbing mechanics, and the use of a grappling hook-like tool (Axiom Force in Crimson Desert vs. Magnesis in BOTW)—Crimson Desert divides actions across more buttons, resulting in a steeper learning curve. "

Yeah not sure I'm gonna side with you on this one since I literally had my hands on it for four hours and the player / review consensus is the consensus.

I played for a few hours but I put it down for the time being. I think the game will improve by quite a lot by the end of the year after going through numerous patches, QoL changes, and updates. Would make for a better first experience. Pearl Abyss seem to be listening, so I'll let them cook for awhile longer before I actually commit.

Yeah exactly. You can't just tell someone who's not having fun "Well you're in the tutorial, you need to play for 10 more hours." A well designed game should feel good and fun to play out of the gate. It may be true that Crimson Desert clicks with you more as you progress, and becomes more fun with time, but that doesn't excuse those opening hours.

Having to take dozens of hours for the controls to feel natural is gamings version of Stockholm syndrome. I'll wait until mods or official fixes.

When im talking about the tutorial Im obviously not talking about the controls, the UI and controls are pretty mid I wont disagree. But you can def get used to them

I think the game is pretty good but the controls are even worse than Witcher 3. I'm usually pretty sensitive to this stuff but just like in Witcher 3 I think what CD offers more than compensates for its flaws.

I don't know if I'll have the patience to finish it but so far I'm having fun.

They share the odd jump button location and moving around feels similar.
