Monitoring the situation in Iran

So, don't tell me. This is another exercise to use weapons so they can buy more and keep all their pals rich?

Tell me I'm reading a few posts incorrectly here and I'm wrong because this is what people at my work have been talking about.

One of the excuses, I should say main excuses is to use hardware so they can buy more and keep the munitions trade in cycle. Classic if true.

They need to tell the world what the goals are and what signifies a win soon because the classic conspiracies are starting to pop up again.

Couldn't they just cut hospice in LA and daycare in Minnesota to pay for this and still have 500 billion left over?

Hes going after the people he has the most contempt for.

Lower income blue collar folks. Arguably where most of his voter base comes from.

Its a bold strategy cotton.

Looks like the purge is bigger overall

Holy f'in shit, they're gutting everything ..

It's like Trump was a sleeper agent of the Democrats and they suddenly activated him a month ago to completely destroy the Republicans once and for all. Farmers are some of his most loyal voters, what the fuck is this guy doing?

More like Trump is a Russian agent, set to destroy the USA from the inside.

So is the IRGC some exclusive sub-group within Iran, with members selected based on hereditary demonstrations of loyalty? Or are they subjected to rigorous brainwashing? Iran's miliary is about 1% of the population, give or take, so if they are a little subgroup within (and presumably oppressing) the general population, then it seems like we should be seeing more strife and revolution within Iran now that the IRGC has to be immobilized and effectively leaderless.

I suspect there is a lot more support from Irans population than we have been led to believe, and their disagreements with the government are more about narrow social policy than a complete rejection of the authority. So more like the average american citizen that wants Epstein file persecutions and lower gas prices and taxes but is overall on board with the government, than some sort of antifa or sovereign citizen type that wants to totally burn down and reject the current regime.

So an american pilot found on iranian soil is probably MORE at risk from "the locals" than from some IRGC unit that at least has, hopefully, a clear thinking officer in charge than can enforce some discipline and has some notion of the Geneva Convention for treatment of prisoners.

My understanding is that basically 25% of the population is loyal to the regime, 25% furiously oppose it, and the remaining 50% just want to live in peace.

Its why normal regime-change was never an option, and bombing non-explicitly military/government targets was a red-line for Washington. One the Israeli's didn't necessarily share as they just want the threat eliminated at all costs.

Like most ME politics, there are no quick and easy solutions, and essentially its looking like the US has missed the window of opportunity to strike by allowing the IRGC to basically exterminate their internal opponents following the January uprising.

It's a logical continuation of One Big Beautiful Bill. Why would anyone be surprised? Trump only cares about Bibi, big corporations and inside trading with his family.

As crazy as the conspiracy of Trump being a Russian agent, but at least this one makes a little more sense because IIRC, he used to be a Democrat.

The bill is coming

If this is true then this is crazy. It feels like Trump has completely lost the plot. All those cuts for more military funding, when the US is already by far the most well funded military on Earth.

He must be desperate for those "Trump class" (🤣) battleships

Before this war gas was $2.29 here. Now it's $3.89. Plus all of the lives lost, the chaos and destruction, the economic implications short and long term, etc...
Trump really is a buffoon/toddler of the highest order.

Wait... Did Hegseth and Trump fire the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff?

They fired other high-ranking military officers too. There are two scenarios about that as far as I see

Good scenario: Trump realized he was grossly misled about how this war will go and he's furious, so he's trying to get rid off the people who lied to him and replace them with ones that will end this dumb war

Nightmare scenario: Generals and high-ranking officers strongly disagree with what Trump wants to do, probably ground invasion, because they know it'll be a complete disaster, so Trump is replacing them with yes men. No matter what that is, replacing generals with yes men during war is a very, VERY bad idea

It was $2.30 in my area two weeks ago. I just stopped by the gas station this morning, it's now $4.08

Crazy part about gas is the ships that are still just arriving in the states left port before the war started. They don't move fast at all because of how large they are. Those last ships have no more deliveries following them. Things are about to go from uncomfortable to bad real quick.

Yep, I already started stockpiling staples. Flour, rice, beans.

Isn't the US and Europe largely independent from the Middle East gas? IIRC it's mostly used in Asian countries. Not that this makes a lot of difference for us since it's cutting our supply too. Oil producers in the US are making BANK right now selling their oil to Asia.

Anything but admitting Trump is just a dumb, selfish cunt.
He never cared about anyone other than himself, and his in-group.

Maybe you could argue he's a Russian asset, but that would only be because he's interested in benefitting himself, at the expense of the American people. Which can be summarised as "Dumb, selfish cunt".

Meanwhile, our Dutch government continues to shut down all gas fields, even though the reserves could supply us for over 15 years

Ya know what you got the right idea. Too often I shop on a basis of more immediate need... gonna have to use more foresight for now.
FWIW at wholesale places like Gordon Foods, you can get large quantities for a lot cheaper than standard grocery. 50 pound bag of bread flour is $20 there. 50 pound bag of pinto beans for $30. List goes on. Biggest thing is proper storage once you have them. Recommendation if you buy large quantities of rice or flour is to put them in a freezer for a few days to kill off any potential weevil eggs that might be in the batch. Then take them out and let them warm back up in the open air for a few more days so any potential condensation from the temperature change evaporates. Lastly, shove them into cheap plastic totes you can get anywhere... ideally Goodwill, I see them for stupid cheap there all the time.

Those do-not-eat silica packs that are in various products? I keep them all the time, and then toss them into the totes to help mitigate any potential humidity concerns.

Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out - 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them. Glory be to GOD! President DONALD J. TRUMP

US still relies on foreign oil and world supply going dry still greatly impacts prices of what we produce.
That doesn't even take into account how much foreign products we rely on that we don't produce here that require oil in some form of production or shipping.
Hell even silicon requires helium which is a byproduct of processing oil. Most of that takes place in Asian countries.
It's not going to be good for the US or anyone.

Already, the political will of the U.S. is already on shaky ground for this war, various polls conducted in the U.S. have many Americans not supporting the conflict. Usually the President's party loses badly in the mid-terms, going all the way back to Truman's administration. Many new congress members will be elected in the fall of 2026 and they are running on opposing this war, it is expected Trump will lose both chambers of congress.

No political will to support the war, which means the desired outcome cannot be imposed, thus the war will be lost politically by the U.S.

Unfortunately too many are either unwilling or unable to see past their moral position on Iran and judge this conflict on its actual meaningful outcomes. "Iran bad, so war good" is not a strategy, no matter how evil Iran is. Even in World War II, when a highly evil government was committing vile atrocities on a much larger scale than Iran could ever dream of, the US government was hesitant to enter the war - in part - because they lacked clear public support to do so, even though they had the necessary military might. Japan attacking Pearl Harbor changed that and gave FDR the political capital he needed to prosecute a war to the extent required to achieve a meaningful outcome. Trump does not appear to have the necessary political capital here.

This guy is going to send brent to 200 per barrel and crash the worldwide economy, isn't he? He's threatening to commit war crimes, btw

A deliver like that would probably spread ammo around 100km² or more

Imagine what the media would tell if Israel drops cluster ammo an Iranian city like that...

We've been getting these since the start of the war, they do damage but not as much as a full on missile. The media of course is ok with it since Jews are white.
