Which is exactly what that French minister was saying.
US: We will fly in build a runway overnight and then fly out.
French guy: That's not gonna work
US: In your face, we just did it. Didn't work though.
You should probably read up on what happened before commenting

I'm just going by what was posted in this thread that says they tried and failed to take off - is there a link to better info?
Today is not a good day for terrorist sympathizers.

The movie is going to be lit

This may have been a test run which they learned from. Instead of building a runway - they could just helicopters for a Uranium grab raid - or maybe there was a specific unexpected issue with the runway that they can overcome with this experience.

How did it fail when they were able to land and accomplish the mission with no casualties and nobody left behind?
The mission to rescue the guy was thankfully a complete success. Creating a base in the heart of enemy territory seemingly undetected or at a minimum unaccosted is amazing.
The building a runway and taking off from it was obviously unsuccessful.

How do you manage to secretly build an airbase inside an enemy country? I could understand a hundred years ago or something, but in the modern day that seems crazy.
At night. Though to be fair, some people on X said that that airfield - at least partially - already existed and was used in agriculture and stuff, but cannot confirm.

President Trump's Easter Sunday message

Absolute cinema

The runway building was successful. The issue was that it took longer than expected to extract the pilot so the airplanes stuck in the sand - I think there was like 200km between the airfiled and the extraction point. In time they could have dug the planes from the sand, but instead they decided to blow up the planes (and helicopters inside) as USA army sent another three planes that landed and left.

The French general wasn't talking about this rescue operation though he was talking about a plan to extract the uranium from Iran, which the Iranians buried in underground tunnels which collapsed after being bombarded. Part of why he didn't think it would be possible was due to the fact that the base would have to be there for a while to be able to get the uranium. He said it would take the Iranians weeks or months to get it out of there so even if the US could do it faster it probably wouldn't be an overnight operation. But he did scoff at just the idea of building a base.

Donny T has no negotiation savvy. Whenever the guy doesn't get what he wants in any aspect of life, he just starts threatening. It seems like half of that dude's online posts are threats. Whether it's threatening Iran, threatening allies for not helping in Iran, threatening tariffs, threatening judges for ruling against his policies, threatening people with arrests, threatening Democrats.

Some composure, dude.

From an optics standpoint its pretty striking; the US goes to extreme lengths to retrieve one soldier. Fighting an an enemy that by every measure -historically proven over the entire existence of the regime - that has absolutely no regard for human life, friend or foe.

And yet some people are still equivocating over who's right and who's wrong...

According to the French you can't create a FOB inside Iran. Oops.

According to europoors we should've just shrugged and done nothing instead of blowing up hundreds of bad guys and losing some replaceable equipment while heroically rescuing our guy.

Oh we left two ac130s behind?

What a slap in the face for the French armed forces, basically telling them yeah if it costs too much we are going to abandon you to the enemy.....so sorry.

Fucking GGs to the US army here. Treating your brother's and sisters in arms like they aren't replaceable. Your fellow soldiers lives are worth more than any equipment.

That's how it should be! Fucking amazing story this, imo. I will be there day one for the movie!

The purple site does not have a good day today. So many people are disappointed that the pilot was saved so they have to cheer that a couple of planes were destroyed.
I noticed the same thing. At least 75% of those people wish he would have been captured. Absolutely disgusting.

Well considering the discourse on X, I think it aligns with european and canadian discourse - a lot of them on X celebrate the destruction of the equipment too. So probably a lot of them are those people.

The most hilarious part is that they landed like 2km from Isfahan or something.

The usual terrorist cheerleaders are crying in their organic granola that this rescued hero was spared being torture and used as negotiating bait. Typical.

Some of them are tax dodgers though. I wouldn't equate the two.

No, even as a tourist, good luck getting the British embassy to help.

The British armed forces in such a situation may want to go in, but the British state would not be willing.

It makes sense when you are familiar with history. Leftism is the most violent and bloodthirsty ideology in modern history. They've murdered 100 million people in a series of brutal genocides. The whole cute granola thing changes real fast when they have power. You can see by their responses to Charlie Kirk, Brian Thompson, October 7, etc, how much that ideology respects the human dignity of anyone they think stands in their way.

Almost....
It is also an interesting framing because if you read the title you assume that "almost failed" and "cost lives" are two separate things. Basically DM pushes a narrative that "it almost failed" and cost dozen lives (with no lives lost in reality).

If oil prices keep rising shit will get real for Trump.
I think there's a good chance that Trump isn't mentally competent to be president and that any way to get rid of him respectfully is being sought. If he has some kind of accident or medical emergency, that'll surely be cover for getting him out of office and the VP being moved into a temporary role until such a time as Mr trump is well enough to return to office. And it'll be judged that he'll never be well enough.

Just getting my bid in early.

I honestly think Trump might not last the month.

President Vance in May?
The lack of respect he shows to the office and what it means to be the leader of the most powerful nation on earth will never cease to amaze me. Not to mention the lack of decency he shows during times of reflection or solace such as Easter Sunday.

At times I do wonder if we will ever be able to come back from this.

I saw one headline today in the likes of:
"Despite losing 2 more aircraft and 2 helicopters, the rescue of the American pilot was successful."

With this exact same picture
Quite common for headlines to be updated through the day / the same image to be used for different stories.

Sure. It's a Reuters photo I think so everyones use it.
What's not common is to give focus on the equipment lost at the rescues operation and not the pilot's rescue :)

Potato Joe left functional equipment behind. With plenty of time to get it out without being under active attack from Iran. You think those destroyed c130s and helicopters can be duct taped back together?

But equipment isnt the priority.
The priority should be extracting our men as fast as possible. And not making unnecessary risks for replaceable hardware.

This is something clearly with beneficial results in both cases(of course, in one case the men were being extracted from a war that ran 20 years, and in this case this soldier arguably should've never been sent down there with such a flooolhardy mission in the first place)

We should've already had around 100k ground troops ready. We don't have to take the whole damn country, just the islands, and the coastline far enough to render their anti ship missiles out of range. We can just squeeze their economy and take their remaining chess pieces off the board. Trump really screwed the pooch on this.

This is mind-blowing: the freakin' President of the Unites States talks like an ABSOLUTE RETARD! 😅

Holy shit, when was the last time you have seen this much raw tactlessness?

Well he didn't get captured - we like people who weren't captured.

I honestly would love to be a fly on the wall in this Admin when he says shit like this. I truly question how many are "true" believers vs political opportunists.

But honest question.. WTF is no one questioning his state of mind/mental acuity. Yesterday it was Glory to God and today its Praise be to Allah. The guy is all over the fucking map.
