Wow, people are getting worried about the manufacturing quality of unannounced, speculated products now?!
If the manufacturer had problems with the previous product, why not? Just part of the speculation.

You're already dead.I predict that iPad 3 will not get a retina display
Friend wanted a Kindle Fire, I wanted an iPad 2. We traded. I think I won.
Now to read up on iOS. First device on this OS.

friend didn't even want any cash with the trade? holy hell
Nope. She's a loaded college student who's mom and dad pay for everything and doesn't understand the value of a dollar.
I don't feel bad. Her parents bought her a new BMW while I'm stuck in my '94 Accord.
$199 iPad 2 for me!
It's still free... Grab it while you can. This is the first motion graphic novel to really show the potential of the medium.not sure if it's still free, but I just finished operation Ajax and man, what a great way to get a history lesson. get it if you haven't yet.

Hopefully it'll be a success and push digital comics to follow suit into motion effects. This is the future of digital comic storytelling, IMO.

I've had an iPad for about 2 days now, and I'm just getting terrible headaches from using it, even during short periods of time. I tried setting the brightness all the way down, but that didn't seem to help.
I'm well aware of eye fatigue and all that, but I've never had this problem before. I sit in front of an LCD monitor for hours each day, use smart phones, etc. without any issue.
Any suggestions?
Any glare/reflection issues that might be messing with your eyes? Otherwise is the text size comfortable?Yea, I'm not sure what the problem is. As I said, I never had this problem with LCD/LED displays before. I'm using it in the same well-lit room as my computer, and keeping it roughly the same distance away as my monitor. And I don't use it for long periods of time either (I have an ebook reader for marathon novel sessions).
I got a good deal on the iPad, and I can see myself enjoying it a lot if I can get past this issue.
Yeah this is a good point, going too low would mess your eyes in other ways beyond just the light level (like reflections become more noticeable too).If you're using it in a well lit room, is the brightness too low? Perhaps your eyes are straining to see it properly because of the brightness?
Why would they release a product with a resolution that the hardware couldn't handle?I have an iPad 1. Would it be crazy to buy an iPad 2 right now (apple have some middling discounts today), considering the iPad 3 is 3 months away? I mostly use it for games, and I've never noticed a lack of pixels so retina wouldn't be a killer feature for me particularly. And if it goes retina I'm concerned about lack of grunt pushing that many pixels.
so, yay/nay for an iPad 2?

Well, the iPad 1 to iPad 2 GPU speed increase was 7x, so....ok, phrased badly.
Ipad 2 has a much faster CPU and GPU. If they release a retina iPad 3, my expectation is that the CPU/GPU is not likely to scale accordingly. They'd need a 4x GPU just to stand still in terms of performance for some games.

This will be a funny post in the near future.and I think.... the resolution nonsense is just rabid fanboy nonsense. Retinapad? lol no way you're going to get a chip that will drive graphics on a panel that size. and not to mention the impact on battery life
As I understand it, it wouldn't take as much processor muscle to use pixel doubling to achieve the 2048 x 1536 resolution, which is why they're choosing that exact resolution (i.e. twice the current 1024 × 768 res).ok, phrased badly.

This is something we’ve heard before from analysts, but the Wall Street Journal is now saying that Apple has tapped Sharp to supply the LCD displays for the next version of the iPad. This new iPad is expected to launch early next year, with dates from all the way to the beginning of the year to March being floated around. This new iPad is rumored to include a Retina Display – the super clear screen technology that was pioneered in the iPhone 4, as well as a faster processor. Earlier this year, reports claimed that Apple struck a billion dollar deal with Sharp to supply displays for Apple products. The WSJ says:
The person also said Apple is also investing in facilities at Sharp’s panel manufacturing factories in Japan, without specifying the amount being invested, highlighting Apple’s plans to work with multiple component makers to ensure that it can secure enough parts to make its popular iPhones and iPads. Osaka-based Sharp makes liquid crystal displays, which are widely used in tablets, smartphones and flat-screen televisions. Sharp already supplies LCD panels for Apple’s iPhone smartphones, according to the person. The company will be supplying panels for the next iPhone, which is also expected to launch sometime next year, the person added.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the WSJ report is that they claim Sharp will not only supply LCDs for the sixth-generation iPhone, but is already powering the display of current iPhones like the 4S and maybe the slightly updated 8GB iPhone 4. The next iPhone is already rumored to pack a 4 inch display and an aluminum casing, both of which are rumors we’ve heard before. The WSJ previously said this iPhone 6 would be a dramatically new design and would introduce some new way of charging the iPhone.
I would wait, in fact I'm holding out these remaining four months or so for the iPad 3. Now that I have waited this long, I ought to stick it out.I have an iPad 1. i've held off on buying an ipad since it was originally announced. it never appealed to me as i was always hoping for something more prior to the announcement. but the more i play with them the more i want one. plus, i told myself ipad 3 would be when i finally dive in, no matter what the specs/features are, but i am finding myself REALLY wanting one now.
I have waited this long, should i continue to wait for 3's release or buy a 2 now and flip it when 3 comes out?
Won't give you advice (I caved and got one last month), but the Apple online store has them at $45 off today.
there are apps that can download videos from your local network and play them - e.g. 'air video'
