Indeed.I'm hoping for a new name and the loss of circle-pads.
After the 3DS being confused with DS fiasco, a name change isn't impossible imo.
It makes sense for the 3DS, but for a controller it baffles me as to why they went with it.

They had to use a 3DS-style setup for the buttons to keep the form factor small horizontally, so they probably thought normal analogs wouldn't have been very comfortable (you don't have to extend your thumbs as much to reach them).Indeed.

I'll be glad if we get F-Zero at all, really. Even 720p 60fps will be epic.

Nintendo has much to prove this time. Nintendo! Wii, grew up. Mii and my friends are not interested in U, outside of our fond memories of Zelda and Mario. Wii, want U, to evolve. Most of Wii, have HD televisions now. Developers also have better tools too. Can WiiU met the future, or do we move on, without U? Wii are living in hard times now. Wii will not spend a couple of hundred dollars, just to play the next Mario and Zelda. Nor will we accept, a last gen system, w/ old games. Wii have spoken.
OK i had it enough, who is this guy? And give me a link to the gaf thread where this meme first hit.

Here, user DaE mentions the Wii U dev kits having the codename CAT-DEV, the controller having the codename DRC (Display Remote Controller), and dev kits being at V1.3 as of last April.
He also said this on April 25th about the Wii U controller:

It currently has;
Onboard speakers & headset plug. (48kHz Stereo Audio)
Dual Analog Pads, Directional Pad, 8buttons.
And a horribly large screen with low resolution.
...And this, which is pretty interesting (I assume he means without tiling):

Instead of posting it publicly, I thought about linking it to you considering how active you are in the Brains Beware thread. Hope you can find useful information, of course assuming the user is reliable.
Cheers!
Terrible example and you know it. The psx sold like gangbusters and then the ps2 topped that even more with somehow more ridiculous numbers. 2 generations of unprecedented momentum earns the branding.
I know that Nintendo is trying to do the same with the wii and alls I'm saying is that it's interesting they think the brand can do it.
That puts the GPU edram at 28-31MB.This is just more confirmation of what we know, especially about the "720p 4x MSAA or 1080p".

Yet the very same guy states it's just on par with the 360...

Maybe he's just a Microsoft or Sony enthusiast?
I said 31MB on purpose - 32MB would suffice for 1080p 2x fsaa (1920x1080x8 (bytes per pixel) x 2 AA = 31.64MB)Which would reaffirm the 32MB.

Exactly. People confuse GAF opinion for general opinion.
Something I think GAF (and people on large internet forums) forget a lot:
We do not matter - we are tiny compared to the size of the industry as a whole. GAF is pretty large, but every single registered member could stop buying games today and the industry, as a whole, would barely notice.
Enthousiast might be an understatement. More like an insider troll, lol:

GAF does matter. We're unique, because devs listen to what we say and implement it into games. Look at Uncharted.
I think people really need to temper their expectations for what they WiiU will be able to do in comparison to next gen machines.
Nintendo don't give a fuck what GAF thinks.
Like the Wii, the Wii U will probably use a customized Power Architecture chip. It will be built by IBM using its 45nm SOI process, feature multiple cores and a lot of embedded DRAM, and reportedly it will be similar to the POWER7 chip used by by the Jeopardy!-winning Watson supercomputer. POWER7 is an expensive, server-oriented architecture though so it wouldnt be surprising if the Wii U uses POWER6 instead. In terms of raw power, this should put the Wii U way ahead of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Hopefully this will be true:

Even though everybody should know that since E3.. This trainwreck thread just keeps chugging along with lolworthy expectations.
Spec-speculation time!
CPU: Power 7 derivative, three cores with asymmetric cache, 2.5 Ghz
GPU: RV7XX deriviate, 680 SPU, 560 Mhz
eDRAM: 32 MB
RAM: 1.5 GB DDR3
Internal Storage: 8-16 GB, extendible through external hardrive and SDHC-cards.
Controller: Can connect up to 6 wireless devices (WiiPad or Wiimote), bluetooth?
Media: Blu-ray derivative discs capable of holding 25GB per layer.
Misc.: 2 USB slots, 1 HDMI connector, 1 power connector, 1 SD slot, 1 Wiibar slot
Assuming we get the above, how "pretty" will the Wii U games be?

As somebody who has been spending his days lately on 1-2 SPU machines, I'd say bring more SPUs! ; )Am I the only one hoping that the Wii U's GPU falls around the 800SPU mark? I'm figuring that should MS & Sony go as all out as possible for consoles designed in 2012, their SPU count could fall in between 1000 - 1200 (based on AMD Radeon HD6850/70 tech). It's just a hunch on where I feel they could go next gen and if WiiU comes close enough, I'd feel pretty assured without the need for any other information.
I'll admit though, that all of this, both reasoning and means for assurance are based around my casual understanding of GPU functions. I'm all up for a crash course on how everything works and why high SPU counts don't necessarily mean better things on a GPU design if anyone wants to get into that.
The 30 or 32MB figure that we can derive from the rumours is specifically meant as framebuffer, too. That means that specific piece of EDRAM is meant for the GPU.And it is for the GPU, CPU or shared?

Just saying, if we all give a dollar/pound to reliable member, between us we can easily get that Wii U information.
Why aren't we doing it? I know it may just give us info we already have, but the temptation!
You guys really think you'll be able to gleam anything noteworthy off that sheet?
Come on.
Nintendo wouldn't let a company just sell their specs for a thousand bucks...
Oh, sorry. But the system light is actually Gold.Look, Ace, listen well. I've been fucking STARVED of information since E3, passing the days hour to hour by repeatedly watching the conference and announcement videos over and over again, whilst sub consciously doodling little Wii U logos all over my desk.
We've had Nothing.
FUCK ALL.
You know what? I'd be really fucking happy if that sheet came through and all it had on it were the words "the system's power light is blue". SO FUCKING HAPPY. BECAUSE IT WOULD BE FRESH NEWS, ACE. ANYTHING. SOMETHING.
Just get. That. Sheet.
I thought it was green![]()
