Sonic Generations |OT| What Sonic can learn from Sonic

I just played through the first stage and watched this cutscene. WTF at the low res compressed video? It's so pixelated...it's not just my tv right? The cutscenes look like crap like 480p or something. Talk about compressed to shit.

PC version on sale on Steam today for $10.19. If you were on the fence at all, just get it. Even if you have a console copy, get it so you can use the fan-made mods later on for more fun.

Unfortunately the Casino Night DLC doesn't seem to be up yet. If it does go up today, it should be on sale too, hopefully.

Disc is packed full, like seriously full I think.

My graphics card probably can't handle Generations, but everything else seems to be above par with the minimum requirements. ...10 dollars, sure why not?

Just beat the 3DS version. Not bad, all-in-all. A bit lacking in the content department compared to the HD versions, but still good fun. Final boss was a lot less shitty, too.

WTF there is a 1:12 in first place, that must be a glitch on the run down the building part.

Yeah, could be a weird glitch, could be someone messing with the time attacks. It's too bad the game doesn't save replays, and doesn't force the top 10 people to upload them so everyone can see what they did.

Edit: One time I got him to start heading back into the building after a jump into the window (and the trigger slightly past), but he still doubled-back, and I couldn't repeat it. I think it's something else, like homing attacking up the cop cars that constantly spawn, and boosting through the building itself or something.

I want to buy this on PC, but I'm not sure how well it will run on my AMD HD 5770.

Anyone have any PC impressions specific to my GPU card?

Saw this in subscriptions, figured you guys might enjoy it :P
Skyscraper Scamper is so fitting.

Man, all these speedrun videos make me feel so dissatisfied with my skills. I haven't played the game in a little more than a week (been playing Corpse Party and Fate/Extra), so I'm rusty. I guess Generations is one of those warmup games like Pac-Man CE DX was to me last year. :lol

How is this for someone who isn't really interested in sonic games nowadays but definitely enjoyed the earlier games once upon a time ?

I haven't touched a modern Sonic game since Sonic 06, and I'm loving every second of this. Lots of charm oozing out of the game thanks to all the little touches. I hear the game takes a bit of a nosedive near the end, but I can't speak for that...yet.

You should have a lot of fun with it.

It gets better, but the final boss is truly awful.

I'm not a Sonic fan in the slightest and only ever really liked the Rush games for the DS, and to some degree, that Heroes game for the PS2 (Have at me), so would I like this?

Oh yeah you will. This is basically Sonic Rush 3D + Classic Mode, and there's actually a Heroes stage in this game. One shortcoming though is it's length, but the stage missions add a lot of game time. But since you haven't played the recent 3D Sonics, I'd give the demo a try first just to be sure.

Just reminds me of how I used to be able to beat Sonic CD on the PC with a keyboard multiple times when I was a kid. I don't even know how the hell I did that!
Well, yes, a keyboard is a much superior control setup for 2D gaming than a controller, so I'm not surprised you did that.

fighting the bosses in hard mode, why the hell were they not the standard? they are so much better.

Also unfitting music makes them so goooood.

Is this a game that a bunch of people on GAF gush over for 3 months and then after 8 months everyone goes "lol, that game was a such a piece of shit"?

I guess that's not a fair metric for games though since that's pretty much every game.

Looks like I'm ahead of the curve.

A trend-setter, if you will.

Oh, I've played pretty much all the recent Sonic's, which is the reason why I'm not a fan. :p

I'll give the demo a try, though.
Ha, really? If so, its quality is pretty similar to Colors', so that might be a good barometer too.

I think our "gushing" has been pretty consistent from the get go in that it's a flawed but enjoyable game.

I found it to be a genuinely good game, with some flaws. Namely, the last boss and a few of the "challenge" stages.

Sonic's case is different. When it's released, it is usually hated right off the bat. Examples: Shadow The Hedgehog, Sonic 06, Sonic 4 and Sonic Unleashed to an extent.

But Sonic Colors, the previous game, is still praised. Sometimes you get these crazy people who says "PEOPLE ONLY LIKE COLORS BECAUSE THEYRE COMPARING IT TO SONIC 06" crap. And you sometimes get reasonable people who just don't like the game.

Nah, it's a genuinely good game.

The minimum/recommended requirements are super conservative. If you've got an 8800GT or better then you should get a (mostly) steady 60fps in 720p. Its really not very demanding on the GPU at all.

Fricking awesome.

Just bought from the Steam sale, but their servers are down. >=/

The way it streams data from the HDD will give most people hickups in frame rate, I own a pc which can run it perfect until you get to certain areas in stages, the loading just drops the frame rate so badly :/ like stutter.

Well yes, it's only brief and in a few areas but unavoidable unfortunately. Your GPU isn't going to have an effect on it.

What if one had an SSD?

AVerHD or something name slips my mind atm, for £98 it's damn good but my upload is currently at 1mb so I have to keep the image simple and low res currently.

Edit: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002MRROO4/

I also have a splitter but due to being dumb I am 1 HDMI wire too short :P so I play on the included pc software window for now, wire is in the post.

Holy crap, that thing captures off a HDMI lead? I don't think Hauppage have a capture card that can do that currently released. What formats can you save your recordings in? The Hauppage HD PVR I am eyeing up can only produce raw .ts files, which Sony Vegas Pro (which I use to edit my videos currently) won't read the sound from.
