Giant Bomb's Game of the Year Thread: Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skylanders!

Brad will argue for Bastion, I can't wait.

I really hope Portal 2 takes it though, if that game had been released in November I think it would be on a lot more lists.

Of course, but I don't like the fact Dave thought Witcher 2 wasn't an "Eastern Bloc" game in spirit and that it was too polished.

I dunno, it's not a big deal and I get that it's a bit of a joke category, but I feel Witcher 2 isn't going to win many (if any) categories so this was his chance to recognise it as a fantastic game.

I think saying "This game is too good to be considered for this category" is kind of recognizing it as an outstanding game.

cargo! being remembered was nice, although I found the game disappointing personally given the pedigree.

In Dave’s write-up and in the podcast, he said that Witcher 2 lost because he didn’t get very far as he felt it was too hard and he didn’t like the controls as much. it wasn’t about it being “too polished”

Remember, this is Dave's Eastern Bloc Game of the Year and while you'd think my tastes would lean towards a pure RPG, the early difficulty and clumsy controls of The Witcher 2 made me hold off on that adventure till a proper patch appeared. Dead Island in contrast was an immediately playable and worthwhile experience that brought true innovation to melee-based combat in the first-person perspective.

I get the impression that your enjoyment of Saint Row 3 comes down to whether or not the humor clicks with you. I couldn't name a sublime song if I tried and didn't watch wrestling as a kid so I passed on it (at least at full price)

how did Dead Island beat Witcher 2?

I maintain Cargo over Two Worlds II is the true oversight of this catagory. The whole award felt rushed, they didn't even give him a chair during the podcast! Whats he so busy doing anyway, I demand more Dave! (and Drew)

I hope the Drew's Western Europe GOTY is given today with the Matt Kessler Japan GOTY given Wednesday

Pretty sure the main reason was he thought it was too hard.

More or less why Catherine and a few of my other favorite titles of the year won't see almost any praise.

Kind of funny/sad that Kessler is GiantBomb's "Japan" expert.

EDIT: Speaking of which, how are the intern goty discussion videos?

Can I just say tested is really letting me down on the end of the year stuff. No campy FMV intros or anything, just Will, Norm and Gary standing there (and not one of them is on a TV!)

They could learn a thing or two from this giantbomb-dot-com site that rudds fellow is pimping

Skylander of the year! I love you giantbomb

I've been watching the Classic Game Room skylanders videos and they have been selling me on the game. I'll probably pick it up soon and it just might be my 2012 2011's GOTY

STILL LOL'ing here !!! :D:D:D :'D

He gave it 5 stars :)
He gave the original Dead Space a perfect score a few years ago too, and I found that game to be flawed in a number of areas. I love his writing and hearing him talking about his experiences with games, but there are times when I wish he would be a bit more critical towards certain aspects that a games attempts to offer.

Just watched the first few seconds of the recap. What the hell Brad? This is so amazing

I'll stop, I need to finish the podcast first.

Disappointed Two Worlds 2 didn't get any love. IMO, it's by far the most pleasantly surprising title over the last several years, especially considering it's dreadful pedigree.

Honestly, it's really no different from SR3, as both titles are 'back door' franchises looking to capitalize on big brother. TW2 was a great experience (on 360) and offered 50-60 hours of RPG goodness.
