Giant Bomb's Game of the Year Thread: Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skylanders!

Ryan skipped Alice in his top 10. I know it's not the best game in the world but he seemed to like it a lot when it was released :'(

Which do you do you recommend? Can I download?

Also there is day 2 recap and day 2 show Oo

I'd say listen to the podcast first before watching the videos but if not, the day 2 recap video shows the winner and game play of Brads favorite game of the year, he also has a video of his top 10 of the year. The article recap just lists them out with the runner ups

No, but they used to work with Greg Kasavin back when he was at Gamespot and so was half the GB crew, and they also lent SuperGiant a ridiculously valuable camera to make the dev diaries for their site.

Gif of the year, right here.

And by "ridiculously valuable camera" you mean "a consumer-grade camera I bought with credit card reward points like four years ago."

Hey man we have an economic crisis on our hands :D. We can't afford all these Skylander packages (Drobot 4 life!) and expensive consumer grade cameras.

Question for the next Jar video:

Was Monster Dunk an actual video game at any point during development?

I sorta don't want an answer, because I'm scared it'll be revealed that the game didn't even have anything to do with basketball.

Does Giant Bomb does a subscriber-voted "Best Whiskey Media/Giant Bomb content of the year?" or maybe something like "Quick Look of the Year?" Should. Everyone is dying to rank stuff around this time.

I will not be satisfied until Whiskey Media ranks the superhunks!

Ryan clearly states about a minute and a half in that there will possibly be spoilers for any of the games they're talking about. Guess you missed it?

They've pretty much been spoiling every game they talk about. They did the same thing last year. They need to be able to freely talk about everything in these games if they want to suss out the best game of the year.

These discussions are always totally spoiler ridden and they give very fair warning.

Wow wtf so they totally just spoil the shit out of the ending for la noire without even a warning?!

They warned about there being spoilers and it should be pretty clear that they will talk about everything. If you care about spoilers this is really not something you should be listening to...

Yeah, it almost seemed like they went out of their way to spoil every game they talked about. :P

Definately hold off on listening if you haven't beaten the games they talk about yet.

Please. They said at the start there would be spoilers and even if they didn't I don't see how you can listen to something like this and not expect any. Plus if you really cared you probably would have already played it now.

It's amusing how eager Ryan was to criticize the gameplay in Shadows of the Damned based on two hours of play while giving the second-rate shooting in Saints Row 3 a pass.

There should be a "Best Dark Souls" award where Matt Rorie and Kasavin just gush over it for a few hours.

Why do want to exclude Vinny from this?

What? The shooting in Saints Row 3 is fine. It probably even is the bes tin any of these open world games. It controls just like a third person shooter should. The weird ass laser thing in Shadows of the Damn just plain sucks.

I just shake my head when people call Shadows of the Damned's gameplay mediocre, all the while praising games like Gears. Of course they are all just opinions, but I find the Gears games to have far less satisfying gameplay and shooting mechanics.

Oh I will talk shit about the gameplay in any Suda game all day long if you let me. Sorry but the crazy doesn't make up for mediocre at best gameplay.

On the subject of spoilers, Jeff really, really spoils the end of Driver SF.

And at the same time it shows why being so spoiler sensitive is dumb. All that did is made me want to play the game.

I got SotD for Christmas so I don't know what to believe now!

The QL sold me on the character and attitude of the game, basically. The gunplay didn't look especially hot, and the mechanic of clearing the darkness out of every area sounds like it could get seriously tedious. It's a game I wanted because it seemed like the other elements of the game could transcend that.
