Licorice-flavoured booze?
That's a point, were hand-held games void from being in their GOTY considerations?
The idea they're anti-PS3 is absurd.
they only chose games in their Personal top ten lists. Since none of the portables made it, they weren't even considered. That's a point, were hand-held games void from being in their GOTY considerations?
Oh I dont know, maybe the fact they gave the most prestigious award to a game that doesn't work on one of the platforms it was intended for. Which makes it not GOTY.
As was explicitly stated by them on the podcast numerous times, the award does not apply to the PS3 version.
So if Skyrim doesn't apply to the PS3 does that make Saint's Row 3 Giant Bomb's PS3 game of the year?
I don't see apathy, I see a list of some middling games people are surprised didn't get a real look in, nor did Halo Anny, the biggest 360 exclusive of the year by far.The opposite of love is apathy.
I don't see Resistance 3 as middling, far from it actually, but it wasn't exactly a popular game so I can understand why it didn't get much attention from them. Also, wasn't the biggest 360 exclusive from 2011 Gears 3? Besides that, Halo Anniversary is kind of in a different category since it's a remake.I don't see apathy, I see a list of some middling games people are surprised didn't get a real look in, nor did Halo Anny, the biggest 360 exclusive of the year by far.
Even the smaller PS3 games most people could over look often get lots of love from GiantBomb, Shatter for example, lots of PS3 owners wouldn't have even heard of that.
Again, let me reiterate that none of this bothers me very much because I'm fine with the GB guys just being a group of normal dudes who like what they like, but I do think it's kind of obvious that they show more apathy to certain consoles than others.
Because people like Stu keep acting like it doesn't exist. You're right, they do, they admit it, and most of us have come to accept it too. Then why does it have to be endlessly repeated in GB threads time and time again every single week?
You should ask them! They all use Twitter, a few of them have Formspring accounts, and Jeff does Jar Time videos. I would suspect if you were to reformat the list according to that qualifier, Saints Row: The Third would be number one, with everything else bumped up a spot and Mortal Kombat slipped in to number 10.

And come on, how often does Giant Bomb talk extensively about a PSN exclusive game? Shatter is more of an exception than anything. Remember Ryan's comments about Joe Danger from a few weeks ago?

You're right, PSN has not had many high profile exclusives lately so there hasn't really been a lot for them to talk about on that front.Forgot about Gears, good point yeah. And how often does PSN get high profile exclusives? Because that's about as often as they're discussed. Flower talk was endless. They talked about Journey the other day. Wipeout got covered, as did Joe Danger. The PixelJunk games get covered quite a lot.
I think multiplayer is different. Ultimately I just don't think they are ignoring any PS3 games for any reason other than they don't like them. Personally I'd say R3 and KZ3 are no where near worthy of GotY consideration, in any regard. But there are things that stand out, most notably GoW3 not being mentioned when discussing the best looking games that year. But that seems more like incompetence than anything else. You're right, PSN has not had many high profile exclusives lately so there hasn't really been a lot for them to talk about on that front.
I don't think GB is nearly as apathetic towards the PS3 as a whole compared to the Wii or any handheld system, but it's there enough to be noticeable when they talk about games like Resistance 3 and Killzone 3. I think both of those games had MP components that were worth discussing in the "best competitive MP" segment, at least, and the graphics were no slouch either.
I never intended to talk about it this much though, it was just supposed to be one little comment but I guess I got carried away. I'm done now.![]()
I guess I just don't remember who played what. Did anyone other than Patrick play Resistance 3? Did any of the guys play the MP of either game for more than an hour or so? Did any of them try the co-op in Resistance 3?I think multiplayer is different. Ultimately I just don't think they are ignoring any PS3 games for any reason other than they don't like them. I don't know, someone posted their profiles earlier in the thread, you could probably check. But even if they didn't, which wouldn't surprise me, you have to consider the high profile 360 games they also didn't bother playing. I know Jeff was vicious about Crysis 2, a game I think is significantly better than those two PS3 shooters. I think it's more they just don't care in general.I guess I just don't remember who played what. Did anyone other than Patrick play Resistance 3? For the record I don't think R3 and KZ3 are GotY material either (although R3 is number 10 on my list), but I do think they could have been legitimate nominees for some of the specific awards.
And I totally agree about GoW3. I was really surprised they didn't mention it when discussing best looking game.
Huzzah!Dave said:Putting together some behind the scenes footage of the GOTY stuff for our premium members. Should be up in the next day or so.

This is true for more than Bayonetta. If you replace "crazy" with some other superficial aesthetic quality("cinematic", "noir", "wackiness", etc) you cover most of why they like the games they do. Which makes their opinion pretty superficial to me. It just becomes more obvious when you throw a beast like Bayonetta into it. Another example of this is Patrick on Catherine.
From the talk on the podcasts most of them played Saint's row on PC.
The texture work is pretty rough on PS3, makes me wonder what it's like on 360.
EDIT: Look at the rocks behind my girl:

And here I was thinking it wasn't much of a looker on PC.
I think that's alright though. People do play games for their aesthetic qualities, and you just have to recognize that that pretty much describes the Bombcast. I can definitely see why it'd make their opinions superficial to others though.
Can anyone think of a game that any of them have gotten hardcore obsessive into? The only one that really springs to mind is Jeff with Trackmania 2, and that might still be because he just loves the nonsense of running a server and playing 24/7 dubstep.
Are they actually doing another podcast today?

I like how Patrick keeps repeating over and over again "the ship level had no business being in uncharted 3". Amy Henning herself admits that they create the set pieces and then build the narrative around it. Get over it, patrick.
Yes.
Holy shit
I think I remember Jeff saying he spent a crap ton of time with Burnout Paradise. Can anyone think of a game that any of them have gotten hardcore obsessive into?

Just got to the part where Jeff argues that Dark Souls isn't a good game because the description of one item was poorly translated/inaccurate. And he keeps saying that when information is at a premium, it has to be good information, but doesn't come up with another example of bad information the game gives you.
Why is this tiny problem a reason to wipe the game off the top 10? Because Jeff knows he doesn't like the game and had to come up with a reason why, but he only played a little of it and has little info to draw from. So the mistranslation gets blown out of proportion.
Note that I am not saying everyone has to like Dark Souls. I'm just saying this is a hilarious thing to fixate on in a game with so much content.
I like that it's raw and unscripted. In any argument you're bound to repeat points if the opposition won't budge.I listened to 2010's GOTY awards (final day) show just for kicks... It's amazing how quickly they gave it to Mass Effect 2. I wish these guys would actually, ya know, come to the studio on recording day with some notes and arguments written down. I feel like it takes them FOREVER to get a simple point across.
I don't even understand what it was about the item he mentioned that was confusing. Was he talking about the rare ring of sacrifice? What was his problem?
Resistance has never been as good of a series as Playstation fans make it out to be, so maybe that's why it gets ignored.
