Wii U Spotted At CES

I dunno it's just bizarre to show the system for the first time since June 2011 and not show any improvements. Is that really a message you want to deliver?

Uh. Companies (not just console companies, tech companies in general) truck their same demo models from one show to another all the time. It is extremely common.

Yep, Iwata said that the final version of the Wii U would be available at E3 2012 and released between the day after E3 2012 and december 31 2012. He said nothing about 'reunveiling'.

So why did they pull the exact same demo models from GamesCom?

-slidepads instead of normal analogs
-ackward positioning of ABXY buttons
-resistive touch screen
-xbox HUGE

why, fucking why? Why can't it be more like this:

Why, why, oh why?

That would make too much sense for Nintendo. Screw pads, we need gimmicks!

Didn't Sony change the controller 1 year later? wiiu is just at ces and nothing new is coming from there. I dont think its bizarre to see a change at e3.

The Wii U controller should be a regular sized controller that sends pictures into your brain.
That way it wouldn't be so oversized.

Honestly, how much do you think Nintendo will change the design of the Wii U?

Cosmetic or internal? because I haven't seen a Nintendo console change drastically from it's initial unveiling.

It's a dual-analog pad with a screen in the middle. It's the same as that classic controller pro (which will work on the Wii U, btw) with a screen.

I'm not sure. Why don't you ask them?

As someone who was in the field, I do know that demo equipment is used, reused and reused again and again and trucked from one trade show to another. It is rarely updated, in public, until the final model arrives.

Massive changes happen internally on *all* consoles... Nintendo included. PS3's changes from its unveil and reunveil were well documented.

Nintendo's reason? "Security concerns"

but here we are at CES, a Wii U sitting there all by itself not hooked to anything and no one there to 'secure' it. I'm sure this is 'safer' than the originally planned Frankfurt event at the NoE offices....

The thing I hate the most about the Wiiu is the fact that some games use both the WiiU and the original Wii controller: stick to one design please, this will only get consumers confused.

Gotta admit, Wii U looks like a POS aesthetically. Looks like a demented external disk drive..

I don't know man, when I compare it to other consoles, it holds up pretty well. Looking at the og PS3 though, that's not hard to do.

There won't be any massive changes and certainly no "re-unveiling". I have no idea who changed the thread title to imply that, but it won't happen. And no, Nintendo never said anything about redesigns, re-unveilings, or that we'd have to wait until E3.

The console's look?
Not much.
It's a freaking box. I don't get why people want it to like... have lasers shooting out of it or something.
Seriously

I don't understand why people are so caught up on a box that they'll only touch when they are switching games in and out. The controller is the real focus here.

Is a console some sort of fashion statement now?

Going by this thread, I would have loved to have seen Gaffers reactions to the N64 pad (although saying that, I assume many people in this thread weren't alive then).

there's one upgrade for Wii U's tablet screen I'm hoping Nintendo has implemented: capacitive touch.
Why??? Then we would get same crappy precision as on iphone and ipad etc. Did you see the E3 promo video? We can actually draw on this thing! Hopefully in 1080p. It's one of the features of the WiiU that I'm most excited about. Even a simple program as Letter Box / Swap Note will be awesome on this thing! :)
To draw on an ipad, even with a capacitive pen, is just... well, just plain bad.

This hasn't even been close to confirmed. "Reunveiling" means nothing.

unveiling - present participle of un·veil (Verb)
Verb:
Remove a veil or covering from, esp. uncover (a new monument or work of art) as part of a public ceremony: "the mayor unveiled a plaque".
Show or announce publicly for the first time: "the manufacturer unveiled plans for expanding into aviation".

So it would be logical to assume what Nintendo will show at E3 will be something we'll get to see for the first time, I.e new, altered.

Anyway, it doesn't need Nintendo's word to make it true - they've said nothing about there being a Mario game for the system, but it'd make sense if there was, no?

And thus it's LIKELY that the above prediction is true.

Can't remember what I thought the first time I saw it, but I know I wondered how the Hell I was supposed to hold it the first time I used it. I'm still not sure how you're really supposed to hold that thing.

I'm concerned about size and comfort, but I still dig the idea of a controller with a touch screen. It's similar to the design of the DS, which I'm very fond of. I've been playing OoT 3D and I love being able to view the map and switch items on the fly. I think it has potential to be more than just a novelty or gimmick. Either way these threads will be more and more fun the closer we get to launch.

you've done it you've cracked the conspiracy they took it away from gamescom because of aliens

No one said "reunveiling." That was Gaf putting words into Iwata's mouth.

Oh yea, the potential's there of course, it's just more a case of who will capitalize on it? I thought the same thing of the Wii remote and i'm certain many other did too. And while we got a handful of neat titles that did interesting things with the controller, developer enthusiasm towards it sort of just tapered off.
