Actually.. that got me thinking. Will Steitzer return for the MM commentary? Wonder what Halo would be like without him...
What's the difference between the actual focus rifle and the beta focus rifle? I watched a few Reach beta videos and the focus rifle didn't look change at all.Beta focus rifle >>>>>> beam rifle
I hope so.
They didn't nickname it 'FaceMelter' for nothing. What's the difference between the actual focus rifle and the beta focus rifle? I watched a few Reach beta videos and the focus rifle didn't look change at all.
It sure as hell wasn't a long-range facemelter in the beta. They didn't nickname it 'FaceMelter' for nothing.

Before I sold my GameCube, I went on animal crossing and exited it without saving, fuck that guy!

Otherwise it's a piece of junk. If you consider it as the covenant equal to the Human sniper. The human sniper can be a one-shot weapon, but with the focus rifle you have to aim a few seconds to get the kill. The focus rifle user is a easy target in that time. The beam rifle was the perfect covenant version of the sniper. It has its disadvantage(overheating, less ammo), but some advantage, too.(Fast RoF etc).

Looks like TLN will be hosting a 64 team online tournament where 1st place gets in to the first Pro LAN and $800. Sounded good till I saw the $40 price tag.
With 64 it's $2560 total, so a $1760 profit..

Thats...totally worth it. 40 per team??
Dude! It's the RING! HALO RING!I would prefer death by grudge girl, than death by mr nag-a-lot resetti.

Oh, and a year+ later, time to get a Sanctuary in there that is good.
Ship Just Got Real
Obviously weve been working on the game in earnest for a long time, but its all starting to feel pretty real to me now. Campaign is playable from start to finish (not to be confused with complete or polished) and multiplayer has been running for a while. Its amazing to see changes big and small have a dramatic effect on making the game smoother, more playable and more enjoyable in almost every session.
Personally I have been traveling a fair amount in support of the impending year-long launch activity. Visiting with our partners and colleagues in Europe to talk (and walk) them through the game, the features, the U.S. marketing plans and the sheer scale of the project. We certainly surprised some folks with the ambition and concrete realization of where were at, but it was kind of cool to see genuine excitement and enthusiasm for the game.
Our show and tell was pretty BIG, since the European partners (marketing, retail guys, etc.) need as much information as is available to make their plans and start building the path to launch abroad. So they went from knowing practically nothing about the game, to knowing practically everything about it. Which is a weird feeling when you expend so much effort and energy on security and secrecy. Its amazing how much detail you need to go into. Its not good enough to simply list off the changes and additions and improvements, you have to contextualize them. Its been almost five years since Halo 3 and a LOT of stuff has happened between then and now: ODST, Reach, multiple map packs, loads of story and a whole swathe of technical and gameplay changes.
Creating material to explain those changes, walking people through the game features showing them a lot of this stuff in action, its fun, but its nerve-wracking. In a way its a preview of our public showings, where we get a feel for which changes, which additions, which refinements are going to get people excited. Its also a chance to get a feel for which new features are complicated and how to distill the explanations to capture the essence of what were making. Training wheels, as it were, for showing you guys.
Launching a game is a massive undertaking, with literally hundreds of people all over the world preparing and planning to make sure that every aspect, from the box art to the matchmaking, is executed flawlessly. And if it seems slow, ponderous, even, then remember that theres a plan and a process, and that youll see Halo 4 soon enough. And we cant wait to share it with you.

A metaphor for Halo Reach killing the BR?
That BR looks so sad.![]()
That's hot.
Amazing what a different person can achieve with their words. What Frankie said there has me more hyped for Halo than I've been in the past 2 years, and he didn't even really say anything, lol.
That's hot.
And it's kinda crazy that I of all people still haven't ordered that book.

The most interesting tidbit, for me, came in Jamie's reply to a comment:Saw this on HBO:

Its pretty amazing what those guys think about when it comes to designing games, and its one of the reasons Bungie are so damn good. Other people wouldn't even know to consider this stuff.
Thanks, and excite get. You can feel the momentum starting to build; having been through so many Halo releases here on GAF, I've learned to savor their cadence. The announcement and flood of excitement and speculation. The long march through the desert of silence that follows. The slow build toward the big reveal. I'll be a fun year for HaloGAF. This year has that extra layer of interest since it's 343 taking the baton. In a way it's soothing to have Frankie's prose to help the transition along.for the iphone folk
I'm so freakin' hyped right now! Frankie, please teach me your magical ways of writing and literature!!!
Hooray I got Halo Anniversary. I will probably stream it later.
Gotta buy a live card now for multiplayer.

I do miss reading more of Frankie's writing, he has a way of getting me worked up without actually disclosing anything that no one else has matched. Well, except my wife, but that's different.
