Batman is so gonna kick Hobbit's ass, is this even a question? Batman is universal, hobbit is not

You're about to be taken to school, boy.

Hobbits really are amazing creatures. You can learn all that there is to know about them in a month, and yet after a hundred years, they can still surprise you.

Batman has never been THAT big overseas. That's why Spider-Man 3 actually outgrossed TDK overseas.

Spider-Man is by far the most popular superhero worldwide.

Why you guys laughing? If you go to the third world countries, the odds are they have no clues what a freaking hobbit is, while very familiar with Batman

Do we have data how many Batman comics been sold?

ok that gif cracked me up

I didn't realize third world countries made up a huge portion of the box office. Dude, you are about to learn the hard way. The Hobbit is going to make Batman it's bitch.

that's not true.

growing up in third world country, I can say that Batman and Superman are the biggest two superheroes BY FAR, not even close

Spider-Man 3 outgrossed TDK internationally because it was third friggin' movie in a successful franchise. TDK outgrossed both SM1 and SM2 overseas. With Begins pretty much resurrecting a dead movie franchise, it's with TDK that Batman got its footing with international audiences.

check out this foreign box office Iron Man 2 for example: check out Brazil, Mexico, Russia, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore numbers. They are pretty size-able. Though some of those countries may not be categorized as Third World, but I bet you those people know more about Batman than a freakin hobbit

I've said before I expect TDKR to make over 600m overseas, but I won't be surprised in the least if ASM actually makes more in the overseas market.

Edit: And SM3 made more than TDK in Mexico , Brazil, Russia and Singapore.

Bingo. And like I said before: you are about to be in for a rude shock.

Seriously speaking the Hobbit is the weakest/boring species in the LOTR IMO. Even the fucking dwarves looked like they were far more interesting ..

There's no shortage of dwarves in The Hobbit.

I think a lot of people here are really underestimating the popularity of LOTR. Hobbit will be the highest grossing movie this year.

Doubt it, SM3 is not fondly remembered by anyone. ASM will easily be the least successful spidermayne movie.

All those damn 2nd world countries

True. But the movie is titled "Hobbit". I dont remember anyone fondly remembering that species. By ROTK, Hobbits on screen meant the movie started to drag.

On the same note, you dont find the people underestimating TDKR surprising?

Yeah it seems strange to suggest that the people who saw TDK won't see TDKR, Isn't the DVD/BLU sales huge?

Well while I think TDKR will do better than TDK (but the Hobbit will eventually beat it worldwide) some arguments would be that TDK had the Joker/Heath Ledger hype going for it, also Bane isn't really as popular and well known as The Joker... (plus he was part of the worst Batman movie ever made).

TDK broke blu-ray records at the time, sold a heck of a lot of units on DVD. Surely, Christian Bale died at the time of its release, amirite

Is this a joke? Worldwide, The Hobbit is going to smoke TDKR. Jackson will make sure that everyone will believe this is LOTR 4: The Hobbit, despite being a prequel. The early trailers will be drab, but wait until later in the summer.. This is one of the most beloved books of all time.

TDKR will probably get 100m extra in NA though.

Prediction
WW
The Hobbit: $1.5B
TDKR: $1.1B w/$550m from NA

I'm a nerd that liked The Dark Knight, but I'm not that interested in seeing Rises at the cinema, I could easily just wait until it's out on Bluray.

The Hobbit however...

King Kong is better than Nolan's last two movies

Come at me bros

No. Just........NO. And I say that as a card carrying member of the "Nolan is overrated and can't write for shit" club.

King Kong is my single most hated movie of the past decade. What I wanted was a fun 90 minute action romp. What I got was 180 minutes of Peter Jackson jerking himself off.

Yep. It was Jackson basking in all of his post-LotR glory and deciding there was no more need for restraint.

Fellowship made $550 million OS 11 years ago which is about $750 million with inflation. That was the first in the series and did not carry the end of the series hype like ROTK. Factor in 3D tickets and The Hobbit will rake in the OS market. It's following the release date formula of the LOTR films and will face very little in the way of competition.

The only Peter Jackson movies I like are FOTR and The Frighteners. In other words, not a fan.

Which makes the absolutely outstanding job he did with FOTR seem so odd in comparison to the rest of his work. Its like a masterpiece amidst a career filled with mediocrity.
