Max Payne 3 PC Features Detailed.

I read the thread title as "Max Payne 3 PC Features Disabled", as in they removed features from the console version. I was ready for a meltdown of epic proportions.

I'm surprised they didn't mention video. I don't think textures and audio size increases would more than double the file size. They might add to it but I'm betting the vast majority of the increase stems from video quality. At least I hope they are using higher resolution movies in there as 720p videos would look out of place.

If textures on the PS3 version take up 4GB then on the PC they would take 16GB of space if they are quadrupled in resoultion, no?

This is one of those times where I am considering buying a game I am not that interested in just to show that if devs take time and do a PC port right, it will do well.

Are there a lot of 720p movies in the console version?

Quick bullet points of no no-brainer (like higher res and AA) PC version pros:

- scalable water quality (meaning better than on consoles or just scalable?)
- scalable shadow quality (meaning better than on consoles or just scalable?)
- increased detail for characters
- increased detail for vehicles
- scalable texture filter that increases visual quality
- Hull/Tessellation/Domain Shaders (better curvature on the character/vehicle models)
- Gather4 (optimized shadow sampling / FXAA)
- Geometry shader / Stream Output
- 4 times the texture resolution
- increased audio quality

on paper those sound very good.

Actually now that I think about it, even if you can only hit 30 fps on the PC, you'd still be better off since the game would look and sound better than the console versions.

It's still a Rockstar game on PC, so "Wait and See" is probably the best course of action.

Didn't see these new PC screens posted yet.

max payne games have always played a lot better with mouse and keyboard

The previous Max Payne games were designed with the mouse in mind, so that's hardly surprising. After Bioshock 1 and 2 I'm always wary of mouse acceleration issues in the PC versions of games that were first released on consoles.

Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)
Intel Dual Core 3GHz or AMD equivalent
3GB System RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce 450 512MB RAM
or AMD Radeon™ HD 4870 512MB RAM

At this level, you will be able to comfortably run the game at 30 frames per second with a 1920 by 1080 screen resolution.
Aside from the RAM I'm around those specs, and I play at 1366x768, so I suppose it's a bit more squeeze of fps's. Let's hope the optimization goes that well.

Yep pretty much the attitude to take with Rockstar and The PC. I still remember the utter BS Rockstar spouted about the PC version of GTA 4 oddly enough it is suspiciously similar to the kind of stuff they are saying now with Max Payne 3.

Oh and anyone going "this isn't a port" is deluding themselves. Every single game Rockstar has released on the PC since GTA 3 has been a port of the console version.

I cant even get a consistent 60fps with Alan Wake on high, so my expectations are low for this one. Their definition of high is probably different than mine.

This is true. I think it's the shooter elements. Spinning 180 degrees to hit someone wasn't really meant for the controllers. Since mouse and keyboard did me well thru 1 and 2, I figured 3 would be the same.

The game controls great with a 360 controller. I'm sure like any shooter it will be better with a mouse, but if you want to play on your comfy couch then the controller is the way to go. I only ever played the original two games on the PC, and am having no problems playing the 360 version with free-aim.

I think they mean an average 60fps. You need to average about 70-80fps to keep a 100% locked 60fps.

hmm i wonder how it's gonna perform on my 2 year old i-5 750 with HD 5850 and 8 gigs of Ram?

I can run Crysis (1) on max settings at 1900X1080 just fine but this might tax it a bit more hmm

Relieved that they bumped up the audio for the PC version; it's very compressed on the console versions, even on the PS3 where they had the room to offer something better.

We’ve closed the gap between console and PC release dates, which is something the community had been wanting us to do for a long time, and the PC version has been tested on a huge range of hardware.

There didn't use to be a gap at all. Thanks for doing us a favor, assholes.
