Max Payne 3 PC Features Detailed.

I thought the cutscenes weren't real-time, just movies over the loading screen. Is that only true for a few of them?

The pre-recorded cutscenes give the game time to load some of the level, at which point it switches to an in-game, real-time cutscene. During that they load the rest, and once it's done you can skip to the gameplay by pressing enter.

Verify integrity?

Everything was fine there.

I tried DX9 and first of all the game loaded blazing fast compared to 11 and it was good for a while but kept doing it.

I just tried DX10 and it loads like 11, slowly, but so far no pausing. I need to put more time into it but so far so good.

Drivers, maybe. Sound like it may not be just the game, but I'm no guru

I got tired of not being able to play my purchased copy anymore so I got it through other means. Took 10 minutes until I was watching the intro movie. It's fucked up when there is less hassle to pirate something than to actually purchase it, especially when I got it from Steam too.

The game runs great though. Everything but MSAA is maxed and I was getting 150+ fps in the hotel or whatever it was. I got a 6950 2GB (unlocked and stock speed) and i5 2500k@4,5GHz.

Does anyone know if forcing some AA through RadeonPro will give me that outline on Max like the in-game MSAA?

If that GeForce link is to be believed, the reason MSAA is such a huge performance hit is because enabling it also enables a bunch of other stuff (alpha testing, reflection and shadow anti-aliasing, etc.). You'd think they'd allow us to enable/disable that stuff individually, but I guess it's not a huge deal considering how great the FXAA looks. At the very least, it's good to see a developer actually taking hardware anti-aliasing seriously and not just ignoring it or half-assing it.

lol smh

I'm sitting at my friend's now and we're trying everything to make it work (right now it crashes without any error message just after the first title screen). :/

just finished singleplayer.

now i wanted to try multiplayer but that shit is fucked up. i keep getting kicked from lobbys.

After playing the game on 360 for the past 3 weeks and now playing the PC version, I can definitely say the PC version is superior. Took about 6 hours to download via Steam but it runs great on my 560-Ti.

The image quality alone is just, ridiculous. Especially in MP.

I haven't tried multiplayer yet. Played through the first 2 chapters then headed to work. Although, the load times didn't seem to be that much better. I'll have to play more to really be able to tell. I still have to wait quite a bit before skipping with some of them.

Good stuff. They suggest at minimum a 580 to max the game out. Their MSAA comparison shots to FXAA was also helpful. I'm going to load it up again and try out 4x MSAA and 8x MSAA without FXAA to see how it looks. Don't think I did that yesterday.

Is there any way to rewatch the intro? I skipped it because the game opened out of resolution and it looked terribad

Interesting. I think it looks quite nice with 4xMSAA enabled (didn't notice any bugs) but I'll take the 60fps instead. I can still play at 1080p w/ 4xMSAA BTW, it's just in the 30s-40s.

Oh no, there isn't a way to set the resolution before starting the game? That really sucks as the initial startup for the game was really cool, I thought.

Games that begin in such a fashion really need to offer config settings outside of the game.

It did look cool and I really want to watch it with proper settings, anyone know how?

Seems I can't get vsync to work...I have it on in the mp3 menu and the frames still aren't locked @ 120. I took it off and then tried adaptive through nvidia control panel...still above 120. Then just tried 'On' in CP, and same result.

Anybody else having this issue?

On a different note I notice in Nvidia's comparison shots they don't have that weird outline like some of us seem to get when they are running MSAA...

I think I've figured out a way around this.
In Documents>Rockstar Games>Max Payne 3
there's graphics.xml which you can alter

now I just need a way to remove the save or something

EDIT: Ok I did it, in that same folder there's another folder called Profiles, if you just delete that it will replay the intro

game doesn't like smaa injector at all, went all pixellated and low res style, stuck with in game fxaa, can't get any screenshot overlays to work though, probably something to do with the rockstar social club overlay or the fxaa but they didn't work with aa off either so?

nvidia were correct with that, 670sli is roughly same power and its silky, can't see my fps but its above 40 i can tell just off the smoothness, running these settings

FUCK!

It's one of those god damn few games where I can't use resolution downsampling.

Why?
Why can't I pick 2560x1440?
I can in every other game, but one out of a hundred times I can't. Sigh.

Can anyone help?

Why doesn't SLI work for me?

I have 301.42 drivers but only one card is working.

Any idea?

have you tried setting your desktop res to 2560 and trying ingame again?.. some games just work

You must be kidding, no AA is a mess.

You must not be reading the post. Unless you are telling me that the game is just broken. The black levels look the same between screenshot with no AA and screenshot with FXAA. And I am not seeing a very noticeable difference in detail between the two either.

Of course I am not using an IPS panel this very minute so maybe I am missing something.

Edit: As for AA itself there are noticeable jaggies to the right of Max's left foot in the MSAA shot.

Yeah and I have been experiencing some bad lag. Not sure if it was lag or hackers, when I was being killed through walls.

Go thing i still have my rank 20 character on 360. lol.

On No AA, look at the blue highlights on the ground, and the trimming of the neon blue cabinets to the left. Jaggy city.

TDM was ok but now that I have the other modes daaamn it's fun.

There are quite a few issues though. Some disconnections and difficulty in joing friends.

There is a noticeable difference. You are trying to argue a point concerning IQ and black levels whilst on a non-IPS panel? Secondly, you quoted me but I wasn't arguing black levels - I'm arguing image quality, as in sharpness and smoothness, not colours. The FXAA adds a subtle blur to everything, which in turn seems to turn strong blacks into very feint grey tint on everything, plus an overlay smoked effect and a natural blur to every edge.

The current MSAA isn't perfect, no one has claimed that. However the no AA shot is awful and there's jaggies everywhere you'd expect. FXAA is a good performance alternative if you aren't picky but it'll destroy the image and especially on a good IPS monitor it'll look even worse.

NOW i'm impressed, from the pretty shambolic pc iteration of gta 4 which should look and run much better than it does to now with max payne 3 which on day one runs flawlessly with a single setting turned down in 3D vision surround :O

just need to switch ambient occlusion to ssao and it's a 3D vision ready game, they use custom convergence settings for cut scenes too :D, its running above 30fps for sure and feels quite fluid still even in 3D surround

anyone know how to show fps on screen? dunno why fraps and precisionX overlays aren't working

game shows 2741/4096mb vram used so its just showing memory doubled from sli so halved thats around 1371mb vram usage at 3D 12100x1080 maxed bar ssao and msaa

So does the SMAA injector work well?

worked horribly for me, made the image go all weird, that's with the in game fxaa and msaa off

It turned out to be the new drivers that messed everything up.

I fix one problem and another pop up.

How do I fix the cutscenes freezing the game?

edit : Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow............................................ the game crashed during a cutscene in chapter 2 and now I can't continue, no saves, no checkpoints, I have to start from the beginning. Watching every cutscene again. I... I don't think I can take this. Talk about taking a bite from a sweet cookie to realize it's filled with motherfucking shit. Garbage shit.
