EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

Wolverine can't combo out of his ground throw normally. He can OTG with his slide move but he needs an assist to capitalize off of it or X factor.

If Wolverine is sped up then he can catch them before they fall from a ground leading into a full combo. This is pretty huge as whenever Wolverine does Berserker Slash -> Berserker Charge he now has the option of going for a ground throw which is guaranteed to lead into a combo. This is another element to his Berserker Charge mix up game.

This is Justin's new tech. Too bad we didn't see it at EVO, would've been hype as fuck.

What did he say?

Short version, Kyohei said Champ needs to cut it out.

Kyohei said he ran into DiosX at Evo and told him he played really well at Curleh Mustache, and that it was too bad Champ said what he said afterwards. When Kyohei mentioned this, DiosX got this really pissed look on his face.

He also said people's beef with DiosX has something to do with him talking shit about Yipes a while back, which was Noel Brown's reason for challenging (and beating) DiosX at the last Bar Fights.

They did that on FGTV?

What the fuck did I miss watching The Break over FGTV? Was it worth it?

Wait, seriously? No one tried this out before now? Wolverine players are easy mode confirmed. :lol

Its ridiculous that this is something that isn't on the first page.

Match of the tournament, easily.

Pretty much any other Ryu user would have been screwed against an Adon of that caliber.

If Daigo didn't go all out and take risks then he would have lost for sure, randomness or not it was working against Gamerbee's relentless pressure. He should have done something similar against Infiltration, instead of going back to his old footsie/fireball game.

Ah, so what would be needed for it to be considered competitive (sorry for lack of DOA knowledge), because there have been post from the past 2 days with a lot of negativity about some stuff including Master's big article.

I was really looking forward to buying DOA5 for a fun fighter and if it was going to be competitive was going to buy it day 1 CE possibly.

In my opinion:

DoA has no true form of punishment outside of throws. Most things that are unsafe on block are only punishable by throws.

There are very few natural combos in DoA. Which means attacks are really weak. This is coupled with the counter being so strong where, if you attack with a jab, I could feasibly lose half-life. The defender is almost always in a better position than the attacker in DoA.

Something needs to be done about stuns. In every other fighting game, landing a hit rewards the attacker. In DoA, it opens up the guessing game where the defender can now put the attacker at risk,.

My answer to your question given these issues is that more attacks need to have frame advantage on block so that the person on the offensive has better options. I think more normal, natural hit combos and launchers need to be added. And more stuns from which you can't hold need to be in the game.

Right now there are a few stuns like that, but I don't think it's enough.

Basically, to make DoA competitive, the developers need to subsidize the guessing game that has plagued the series for so long and make attacking worth it.

Yeesh... I'm in Sacramento. I looked at the map to see if I'd ever be passing by on the way to a tourney; if only you were next to I-5 instead of 99! It sounds like I'm going to ReveLAtions in August w/ Hi I'm Nasty to make up for not being able to get him to Curleh Mustache 4, so maybe you can figure out a way to get to a town off of I-5 and catch a ride the rest of the way with us. Just a thought.

I really can't :( Don't know anyone out of the area really to do so and I would have no way of getting there

What the hell was that combo MarlinPie did with Doom a couple matches ago? That was sick. Using one foot dive at a time for part of it.

Are the developers of DOA even interested in making a tournament viable, competitive fighting game? No offense, but I've never seen anything from them to indicate that's the case.

I would love it if Kyohei dropped Doom and went back to his Vanilla team. Modern day Kyohei with Mags would be a menace. He would still fit in very well in his team IMO.

I doubt MarlinPie will drop Viper though.. He might just need to step up his tech since people are learning how to fight against what was once the nastiest of mix ups.

Then you haven't been paying much attention to the development of DoA5. ;)

The developer is in constant communication with the community, and it seems like some of the changes from the alpha build to the e3 build are a direct result of that.

Many of the things they've added show promise, but I don't think it's enough. We'll see soon, though. There are going to be a series of tournaments with new builds. Should see how the game is shaping up shortly.

They are aim is not the competitive crowd. It was announced recently that the game will be playable at Summer Jam in August.

Yeah if people master the escape, his team super becomes useless, so at that point there isn't too much reason to use the Doom/Ammy combo.

I wonder if Dante would work on anchor for him?

Replacing Amaterasu would change things quite a bit for Viper, no? She needs that lockdown, and I'm not sure if Weasel Shot would suffice. Dante second perhaps.

That's cool. It seems that one of the best decisions Netherrealm made in revitalizing the Mortal Kombat brand was embracing the tournament scene. I think that's an investment that's paid off for them, and it's good to see DOA going the same route.

It's also going to be at SBO in some fashion.

I agree. I'm a long time fan of DoA. The game has always been "fun," but never really competitive. I'd love to see it at EVO again.

I can't say I've ever played much of it myself. I've been into Tekken and VF forever, but am never opposed to trying something out. The more legit fighters, the better.

From a competitive standpoint a Magneto / Doom (even though boring and redundant) probably makes a lot more sense than any of his Ammy combination.

I would love to evo have all the games but unless they move to a convention hall and add another day its not happening.

I guess I'll follow FSD and see whats happening. I know Rikuto is very vocal about whether the game is good or not.

Yeah, I think we may be close to seeing the end of front-loaded teams. Not quite yet, but team synergy is more crucial than ever it seems. People are having to check themselves.

Ammy's Cold Star is the best lock down/mix up assist in the game, Viper's mix ups wouldn't be nearly as effective if it weren't for that assist. Viper needs stuff like Unibeam, Jam Session, Strider and Cold Star to be a top tier character.

Playing Mag + Doom doesn't solve anything for him. He plays Mag + Doom he would still get beat by Morrigan + Doom and Hawkeye + Doom. MarlinPie may need to look into Strider though.

You can get away with loading your team up to the 2nd character and having a top assist at the back.

Or he could just keep his team, and have a 2nd team completely different just as a counter match up.

Like Justin's Spencer/Vergil/Frank has no repeat characters with his Wolverine,Storm, Akuma.

The bold part is better. You know he actually plays a fairly stylish Son of Sparda team featuring MODOK.

I think it just shows they don't give a shit about MK9. Fatalities are part of the culture of MK. If you're playing with your best character and you don't even know how to do a fatality, you probably only jumped in because you heard it'd be at Evo. They probably are the best players, and that's probably because they kick ass at fighting games in general.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qL7n9g7U6-g

This is the Kenshi that doesn't know his fatality.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qL7n9g7U6-g

Same Kenshi player getting hyped.

You can check TYM to see if he actually cares about the game. Last I'll write on the matter as I don't even like MK9.

I sometimes wonder...

How many people in threads like these actually play the games? :(

Competitively? Not for ages. I did play MK9 under the whole don't knock it until you try it principle and won a small local (7 players) and I was playing SFxT up until D3 hit.

You know I'm kinda worried about Poongko something seemed really off this weekend. He wasn't aggressive he was really timid in everything he did.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VviJX_bjJMg

He started fairly aggressive against Humanbomb. The way in which he lost must hurt as his gestures indicated and Xiaohai had previously beat him in China.
