Thanks to the 'What's next for Christopher Nolan?' thread, I've been spoilt.

Ugh.

I didn't realise a single black bar would spoil what I can only assume is in relation to the ending of the film. There's even an image in relation to it in the thread, without any warning.

Cross-post from the Spoiler thread since my review isn't too spoiler-y:

Saw this on Sat. morning with some co-workers. 9:05am IMAX showing...probably the earliest I've ever been to the theater. :lol

Great finale to the greatest comic book trilogy, as of yet. JUst a very well done movie throughout.

Bane was excellent...about the best the villain could be done in Nolan-verse. SAme with Catwoman. Both actors did an awesome job. Anne is so incredibly hot. :)
Robin/Nightwing/Batmanv2.0 was set up nicely.

I think my only complaint would be the lack of Batman in the movie. I know the lack of Batman made sense in the story-arc, but damn, I would've like more of him in the movie. And also, the Occupy Wall Street political stuff annoyed me a bit during the movie.

Overall, Rises is an awesome movie. For it goes, TDK=TDKR>BB. And I'd put it just a notch below The Avengers in the "fun" category, but both movies are on opposite sides (Fantasy vs Realism) of the spectrum that it doesn't even matter. Comic book fans should just be happy we got 2 awesome movies this Summer.

In-laws in town and too busy to go for 2nd viewing this past weekend, but the wife & I will watch it this upcoming weekend.

Great movie. Can't wait to own it on blu-ray

Yeah don't get me wrong, there was a lot of good stuff in the first half but (imo) TDK picked things up right from the beginning and kept moving on from there. It was more straightforward to me.

I've always have a strong dislike for how TDK's last 25 minutes or so played out with the Bat-O-Vision cellphone shit and fighting with the sonar stuff. I just...nope, it didn't sit right on initial viewing and hasn't since. That last 25 minutes just frustrates me. Otherwise, excellent film. As such, if forced I'd probably put BB and TDKR above TDK. But it'll depend on how TDKR sits on me after repeat viewings, when the warts show up more clearly.

Sup guys. After the first viewing I feel BB > TDK > TDKR right now. The movie was good though. A little long, rather convoluted and silly if you think about it (similar to TDK but maybe more so), but the overall emotional arc was strong, and Bane was -great-. :)

Saw movie on opening night, the movie was so damn good. It was hella long but honestly every minute was well worth it. I haven't felt this way since...TDK, lol. I'm not sure which one I like more of the trilogy, probably going to rewatch BB (only saw it twice) tonight before I decide.

I'm planning on seeing it again, so I'm not quite ready to put my rankings up.

But I really liked it. Glad to see it had a good opening weekend. I think it'll improve this week once the Aurora shootings news starts dying down.

Disagree. DKR is a lot more interesting in the first 30 minutes than TDK is.
Awesome plane sequence with Bane, Gordon's speech on anniversary of Dent's death and the Dent Act, introduction of both Blake and Catwoman.

TDK takes quite a while to get going with all the Hong Kong/Lau stuff. Yes, there are great aerial views of Hong Kong and Batman flying but I was more intrigued by the introduction of three brand new characters, one right after the other.

Also, Bruce's dance with Selina was great.

I rewatched TDK last night and yeah, definitely agree the beginning was a lot more straight forward in TDKR.

Still not been able to see this. IMAX constantly selling out, obviously need to book tickets but those who I would go with don't organize things. Annoying! Might have to book for myself at this stage or settle for not real IMAX.

Been spoiled quite a bit :(

Yeah I'm definitely going to have to see TDKR again to make a better opinion. I went to see Spider-Man before seeing TDKR so I was a little bit tired during the beginning of the film.

I seriously feel it's impossible for this film to be considered better than either previous film. It's just too messy. Sure it's good and I'm glad it is because if this film sucked I would be so damn sad until Skyfall and Hobbit hit.

But script issues and pacing really drag this below the prior two...much tighter experiences (yes even TDK which is extremely tight until around the ferry scene)

Great trilogy though. But LOTR is my Star Wars. Saw those films in theaters when I was 11 to 13!!!

This Batman trilogy is cemented as one of my favorite trilogies of all time though. And I'd even put this above Star Wars because this was no ROTJ. That film was shit. Almost prequel-tier bad.

Spiderman would have been even better if Raimi didn't fuck up 3 :( After recently rewatching the films I can honestly say Spiderman 2 is the most recent example of a perfect summer blockbuster. It had everything from drama, to comedy to action and it executed it all so well.

Sony ruined Spiderman 3. Thats why Rami walked afterwards.

TDK > TDKR > BB

TDK is the best of the bunch (it's almost not a comic-book film), TDKR is an excellent final film picking up on both predecessors' themes, while BB's origin story is the most believable origin story of a comic book character (the two sequels are in great debt to BB's establishment of Bruce Wayne as Batman). TDKR's flawed editing makes it inferior to TDK, while the second half of BB puts it in its third place.

Still, it's one of the best mainstream film trilogies I've seen and I've been glad to be able to partake in the cultural event it has been. No other comic book film/trilogy will transcend what Nolan achieved in a long time, imo (well, I don't see it as probable within the next couple of years).

Should I get the Batman Begins Blu-Ray for $10 from Amazon, or is it worth waiting for a better version to come out? It sounds like it has a lot of good extras on it.

I don't think there'll be a new version with extra material in some years. There'll probably be something new bundled with a trilogy box or something, but I'd guess the extra material there is either already present on the current Blu-ray version, or just a superficial treatment of the trilogy as a whole.

It's easily worth ten bucks. I imagine there will be another release later this year that may be part of a trilogy set though.

I think the three groups are going to fall somewhere along these lines:

GROUP A: TDK>BB>TDKR (majority of film fans)

EDIT GROUP A *Subgroup-Sculli*: BB>TDK>TDKR

GROUP B: TDK>TDKR>BB (general audience/critics)

GROUP C: BB>TDKR>TDK (Darkhorse group, including most of NeoGAF. This group will probably be the most vocal.)

I'd include myself in Group A.

Group A all the way

Just got back from seeing it in IMAX.

Damn.

Tentatively, I'd rank them: BB>>TDKR>TDK

Although maybe I'd put TDKR and TDK about equal. They both have their weaknesses, but TDKR elevates BB into an even better movie, I think.

I'm in line waiting for a 2:30 showing In IMAX

Managed to stay relativity spoiler free except for a single thing about catwomen that I didn't really expect.

Anyway I excite

Still can't get over Bane. Goddamn. I think he was the biggest surprise of the movie. Really wasn't prepared for such brutal scariness/intimidation. His voice was chilling as well.

Bane -is- TDKR. Maybe not in the same way Joker represented TDK, but it was incredibly impressive all the same. I'm glad Nolan tried something very different for a villain, and I'm glad it worked so well.

I just found out that the TV show has never been released on dvd ever.

what the fuck.

The Interrogation Scene is what made TDK
Bane's vs Batman is what made TDKR.

Not just Bane's physicality, but his dialogue cut deep, and was frightening.

Not really spoilers, but whatever

Rewatching BB and I still don't really get the "nice coat" scene. Why did he want the guy's coat? :lol

He didn't. He was junking all his possessions, and when he got to the money in his wallet, he figured that he would just give it to the hobo instead of burning it, which would be a waste. But the hobo asks him "for what?" and since he's in a hurry he just says "the coat" since it's the first thing he can think of which the hobo has. I like the scene, it shows that while people like Bruce Wayne have so much wealth they don't mind giving it away, some poor folks don't like handouts and view money as something they should earn fairly.

(Maybe I'm reading too much into it!)

That's what I figured, but it seemed a bit far-fetched and unclear to me. Plus, the guy doesn't mind taking Bruce's coat afterwards, so I dunno.

I'm in Group D: BB = TDK >>> TDKR

He wanted to switch coats to cover his identity when running away didn't he? He tells the hobo to be careful, and that there will be people looking for him (and presumably that coat). I mean he's running away and it looks like its cold outside, doesnt want to just give him the coat and be cold lol.

Having slept on my rankings from this past weekend, I'm still firmly in Group C.

BB>TDKR>TDK

The only reason is that I care more about Bruce's journey than anyone else in these movies. Alfred's pretty integral in Bruce's journey so obviously he's a part of it but for everyone else, despite knowing all of these characters since I was a kid, they're not more important than Bruce.

Well I'm at the Lincoln Center theater, about to watch TKR for the second time in IMAX and the place is packed. Then again, this is the only true IMAX screen in NYC, so I'm not surprised.

I tried to book tickets for one of the 10 pm shows this week and everything is sold out =(

Already saw it on Friday, but I need a second viewing!

Just got back. Thought it was decent at best. I thought TDK was messy, but this is even messier. It just made me appreciate TDK more. Dent and Joker were more compelling characters than any one of TDKR's new cast.

I loved the transition from BB to TDK (establishing Batman in the first film and then giving room for the Joker and Dent in the sequel), but I feel TDKR suffered somewhat for having too many callbacks to BB. Also feel that trying to make your movie bigger and more epic does not make for a better film - felt more detached watching this than either BB or TDK, both of which nailed their emotional beats.

TDK(8.5/10) > BB(8/10) >>> TDKR(6.5/10)
