Loved it. More BB than TDK, and loved the focus on Batman. Also, Bane kicks ass. Nice plot twists as well. Could have been sightly shorter. Still an excellent movie, 9/10, just under TDK. Works more as a super hero movie than TDK though. In fact, so good that I will watch it again today. :P!

I haven't read through this thread, but after seeing it last night I felt like there were two scenes that were almost like homages to Empire Strikes Back.

The two major ones in question:

1.)
The scene where Batman and Selena Kyle go into the underground and it's a trap for Batman to face off against Bane felt just like the lead up and duel between Luke and Vader in Cloud City. Not just the way it was set up, but the location and fight choreography as well.

2.)
When the Bat is flying around and avoiding the heat seeking missiles was reminiscent of the Millennium Falcon evading the Tie Fighters in the Asteroid Belt to me.

These may be obvious to others or not, just curious to what you guys think. There may also be some other similar/homage like scenes in the movie but I just didn't pick them up on the first time through.

If I changed my avatar to something unrelated to Batman would you be more aware of how ridiculous your "Nolan has killed this series and run it into the ground" comment was?
 
Watched it again today, just reconfirmed my opinion, perfect way to end the trilogy and a very good film overall.

It's hard to rank the trilogy because I love all 3 films equally for different reasons but if I had to choose

BB>TDKR>TDK
 
Left the theater pretty underwhelmed although loving both BB & TDK. Something about the pacing and flow felt incredibly wrong. I can't say if it's too long or maybe needed more length and build up time.

Some posters need to cut this condescending bullshit about "I aint gonna listen to someone with a bane avatar torlololo". I've been seeing this in far too many pages ITT.
 
Went to see this with friends and we were all pretty disappointed. I didn't expect a movie that would top BB or TDK, but I had hoped for a worthy conclusion.... which we didn't get. I found it hard to believe this was a Nolan film while watching. BB and TDK are in a completely different league.

BB : 9
TDK : 8
TDKR : 4
 
The thing that really disappointed me was the horrendous editing. It was all over the place. Shots were not fluid, and did not feel connected. It was just...weird.
 
Just saw it. I'd say overall it's probably the best movie in the trilogy, or possibly tied with TDK. I think I enjoyed the overall story arch just a bit more than TDK. The villain wasn't as good as the Joker, but still pretty good. It had some good characters though and was generally well acted. I liked that there was a bit more focus on Batman/Wayne than there was in TDK. It wasn't all about the villain this time, which was nice. Special effects were also good, as was the action/fight choreography.
 
I saw it on Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would even put it above TDK in terms of rewatchability potential. It had few flaws, but it was a decent conclusion to a great trilogy.
 
If I had to review it, I would give it an 8/10.

+ Score was glorious. Hans Zimmer never disappoints.
+ Acting was phenomenal. Everyone was great. No weak links here.
+ Bane/Batman fights were just fantastic.
+ Ending

- Movie felt too messy. Didn't feel as polished as Nolan's other movies. Movie felt rushed.

Compared to TDK, is it even messier? cause the more I watch that movie, the less I like it, except for Leadger acting.

Still 2 days for this movie to get here in Brasil...:(

Finally got to see it. Don't get the hate it gets.
This is my opinion as much as it might be unpopular

So many plot & sub-plot points, so many minuet unnecessary details.
It also focuses way too much of the 1st movie to tell the story, which is intertwined throughout parts of the movie.

Oh look. This is how you should have done it in the spoiler thread. Not tell everyone their opinions are full of shit. Glad you learned something.
 
Saw it last night. Good film, not great. Will definitely watch it again.

Sadly, what would have been fantastic as subtext is all text.

Every character tell you exactly what he/she does and why. This could have been done a lot more elegantly, and it would have made the film much more effective.

Anyway, I am glad it didn't fall into the "third movie" trap, and was actually good.

What really annoyed me were
the cutbacks to scenes from the prior movies. The subtle nature of some remarks and their connections to older movies were just perfect even without slamming it over the audience's heads
. Thankfully it wasn't overdone. Still enough scenes were Nolan didn't use these cheap parlor tricks.

God damn Nolan :(
I expect to be a lot of references from the first movie, considering the very first trailer of TDKR have a lot of footage from BB.

Anyway, I particularly am not fan of C. Nolan movies because it oftens feels too flashy and tries to be deep, but fails. The exceptions are, to me, the batman series ( so far) . I like Inception and memento and I dislike Prestige.
One thing he nails everytime though is that ,despite his flaws, the main idea of the plot of the movies are amazing.

Oh man, still can't wait... Too-fucking-morrow!!

Those might have been overdone
for us "hardcore" fans, but casual viewers like my dad who has seen BB and TDK once years ago those were pretty essential for his understanding of the overall plot.

Agreed. It was depressingly dark and at it's end I really was believing that Nolan was about to end the movie even darker (with Gordon's kid really getting shot). In hindsight it was clear that a kid would never die on camera in a superhero movie, but the tension of that final scene with Harvey/Gordon/Batman was just so amazing that I was about to believe it.


I really can't find any reason why apparently round about half of GAF are rating TDK sooo much lower than BB and even TDKR.
 
Count me in the TDK was darker but worse camp. ;) TDKR should've been much darker but Nolan never manages (or dares) to potray it. Guess the spoiler thread would be a better place for this discussion.

I agree that the plot is actually much darker than TDK, but it wasn't fleshed out enough.
Convicts being released onto Gotham's streets. The policemen were buried underground for 5 months only getting small food rations. Alone with this Nolan could have done much more in terms of small scenes to flesh out the overarching theme of pain. Showing stronger scenes of anarchy on the streets. The struggle of the people of Gotham was implied but not shown enough. Hell, Foley was even chilling at home as if nothing was going on..
Thus to me, the dark, depressing tone of the fate of single characters in TDK makes the tone of the movie seem darker to me, even if its plot isn't as dark as TDKR.

Well when thinking about it, one has to be fair and say: It's hard to accomplish with Bane as villain. He's a straight to the point guy, striking fear into the audience with his physical terror,
snapping necks and just looking badass, consuming the entire screen with his physique
.

The Joker on the other hand:

This unsettling screeching sound of his theme, him playing with his pray. He strikes fear into the audience with his psychological terror of people.
The Joker's way of dealing with opponents can set a tone without being necessarly gratutious.

Still I agree.. it was a bit too tame for my taste.

Agreed. Plus, I feel TDKR was more serious with the
OWS stuff
being central to the plot.

It's a Batman movie, but not a movie I'd feel comfortable with kids watching. PG-13 sounds about right to me.
