If it's the thing that clicks then I heard that's to allow them to gauge the distance they're pulling back the bowstring.

Can you right click on BBC videos?

If so, right click, settings, and disable hardware acceleration.

That usually tidies up weird video errors.

If they don't have that options, I am lost.

It also made me realize I want to see Beach Football in the Olympics. Rio 2016 would be the perfect time to introduce it.

Beach football actually wouldn't be a bad idea. Rio would be the perfect setting for that.

sort of. All they do is run forward, stab each other simultaneously and let the judges decide who gets the point

I must say that Olympic level Saber is a billion times more interesting to watch than I thought it would be after my impression of Sabre from fencing club in college. Back then it was almost always over in like 3 seconds with no interesting movement or parrying.
