There are already thinly-veiled doping accusations against the Chinese 16-year old female swimmer that won the 400-meter medley:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/olympi...400-im-of-china-s-16-year-old-ye-shiwen-.html

But it was her final 100 meters – the freestyle leg of the event – that raised eyebrows. Not only did Shiwen go virtually stroke-for-stroke with Lochte – who had won gold in the men's 400 IM earlier in the night – she beat Lochte in the final 50 meters.

Shiwen went 28.93 in her final 50 and 58.68 in her final 100 of her 400 IM. Lochte went 29.10 in his final 50. And the final 100 meters of the pair? Lochte went 58.65 to Shiwen's 58.68.

I'll tell Danny Boyle in person that someone online thought it was "garbage".

I'm sure he'll be hurt.
If I ever meet Danny Boyle in person I'll shake his hand and congratulate him for putting together a fantastic ceremony that was a lot better than most of us were expecting it to be.

It's true. After Beijing everything is going to be awful, though.
We're not trying to appeal to the world because we don't need to, unlike China who'll gladly lie and deceive people during the ceremony.

Here's hoping the Brazilians threaten their performers with execution if they fail, just for your benefit.

No, that´s not it because my country has always sucked in the olympics (Brazil), but i don´t know, it just seems like a common thing to all the people i talk to.

If a sport is so irrelevant that nobody plays or watch, then why is it in the olympics? (and some of them having a lot of importance). History showed us they stopped having some when they became obsolete, so what i´m saying is, they need some changes.

Don´t get me wrong, i love some niche sports, but some of the things i watched can´t even be considered a real sport. (Like the horse walking sideways).

If it's not shown on TV it doesn't mean it's irrilevant. These sports are all in the Olympics because there are a lot of people who compete in. All the sports you listed (Diving, Gymnastics, Shooting, Weightlifting and Table Tennis) have probably more competitors than Golf, since Golf is a sport for very few (money).
Olympics are first of all the celebration of sports and athletes, not a celebration of the most popular sports, which you can watch on TV all year. And these "minor sports" are great because even small country can compete in, like Weightlifting, which was present in the first Olympics ever.

Robson takes the first set!

She really does look like the real deal along with Watson. After such a lamentable setup in Britain's women's tennis things are definitely looking up.
I'm not sure about Robson tbh.

Still she's doing well so far this would be a good win if she can get it.

This all sounds good to me...

In fact if I can see some tigers off to the side being held back by a half-dozen or so Brazilians, just threatening to let them go if the performers mess up...then it will be even BETTER.

ENTERTAIN ME!!!

The London opening ceremony had far more charm and heart, it wasn't as visually spectacular but then, as has been said, we have less to prove.

Damn, the American woman got thrown down hard in the lightweight Judo semifinal. ah well, she probably had no chance against that insane Japanese woman in the final.

She's still early in her development and will improve as she starts to compete in WTA tournaments rather than the challenger ones. It would be great for her if she could string together a decent run at a GS tournament, like getting to a QF, but it seems unlikely. If Robson (and Watson) are to compete in the GS tournaments it will be with hard graft, not by grace like Sharapova.

GB 49er sailor Stevie Morrison is in typically effervescent form despite two 12th places to end day one in 12th place: "It's like playing Super Mario Cart. Sometimes you get a banana skin, sometimes you get a mushroom. Today we got a lot more banana skins than mushrooms.

Nice! My parents live within 1 mile of the Olympic Sailing center and my aunt is even closer. When London was awarded the games, the houses round my aunt were all bought by sailors to give them an olympic base.

Handball seems to involve quite a lot of fouls that really don't result in much other than a reset.

Sure but considering the ball often ends out of play that's a plus for the ones fouled anyway. And if you're not careful you could end up with getting a player benched for 2 minutes. And of course there's also the danger of penalty, so the defenders have to balance risk/reward even if 'free throws' usually aren't dangerous in and of themselves.

Lochte had a good lead and could take it relatively easy on the last stretch.

LOL at the handball time out.

Team GB coach: "You need to do this and make sure you get into that position, etc..."

Russian coach: *Lots of screaming and shouting in Russian*

God damn you London-GAF. I didn't need to know who Zoe Smith was. I'm up to my waist in Olympic wives as is.

Oh fuck, dat accent.. fuck everything...

I remember that the coach for the Russian female volleyball team was quite aggressive in the 2004 Olympics. Seems that angry coaches for female teams is a tradition in Russia.

Fencing has to be more complicated than it looks...right?

...it's like the two people just kind of pose at each other and twirl their sticks around, then one of them makes a lunging attack while waving around the stick like a crazy person and one of them scores a point.

Every. Fucking. Time.

Any french Gaffer using FranceTV.fr player ( which is awesome, with 12 feeds and a way to watch 4 feeds at the same time ) can tell me if it's kind of sloppy in full screen in a 1080p resolution ?
Watching this on my TV, and it has microcuts every 2 seconds, like not sufficient hardware, since the buffering is waaaaay up.
Turned my resolution to 720p and everything is butter smooth.
No idea what's the feed resolution though.
