3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

Wait, what does 100% trade in credit mean? Does that mean that best buy will pay $40 for my used copy of SM3DL?

Currently, Best Buy would give you $10 bucks for SM3DL (according to their website). If you trade it in next week, they'll give you $20 instead. So basically, double the value.

They usually drop the prices of many games before deals like that happen so don't be surprised if you see low values on some games.

Any reason to think this won't be easy to walk into a Best Buy store Sunday and pick one up?

I have no worries. 3DS was presumably a bigger launch than the XL and that thing didn't sell out anywhere. Vita didn't sell out anywhere either. Pretty much the only thing you have to worry about nowadays are Apple products. At least until Wii U, next Xbox, and possibly the next Playstation. Those will probably be hard to come by on day 1 without a pre-order.

the gamestop that I'm picking mine up from let me know there's only a couple more left that aren't already preordered. Not really sure what that means though, could be a smaller store in the grand scheme of things

I seriously doubt it will sell out anywhere, especially at a huge store like Best Buy, I pre-ordered only because I'm really cool like that :p Like others said, 3DS, Vita, neither sold out anywhere and the fact that there hasn't been any noticeable promo for this until this week you won't have an issue

Gamestop is pretty lousy about stocking extras of anything. Games or hardware. Not sure why they do this, but it's probably a cost-cutting measure. Target is where I'm heading first on Sunday, and I have no doubt they'll have plenty. Unfortunately they're not running any deals. Part of me wants to wait until they do offer a special since they've been having them nearly every week on the OG 3DS this summer.

I'm confident that I can walk into my GS and pick up a unit right then and there.

In the extremely rare case that I can't for whatever reason, I'll go to the Walmart right next door.

Wait a sec.. Nintendo is charging $9.95 for the AC Adapter, but it's $19.00 for what is essentially a giant piece of plastic? A rip off, but well played NOA...

Sony's Vita cradle, is an even smaller piece of plastic for $19.99. I'm guilty of buying one and I've already ordered this piece of plastic, I love my cradles

I love my cradle, but only because it was free. I'd never pay for one.

I mean, they are pretty damn useless unless, for whatever reason, I'm too lazy to go the extra step of having to use so much energy by unplugging/plugging in a cable.

My cradle was great for Netflix, though. But I'll see if I can fit my XL on my Kid Icarus stand for that one.

My order shipped from Gamestop! I paid for overnight shipping so hopefully it shows up tomorrow.

Depends on when they shipped it. Overnight doesn't include Saturday delivery. Usually anyway since it's about double the price to ship for Saturday delivery than it is to overnight something during the week. I hope you get lucky.

Yeah, that is a definite possibility. :( I am trying to stay positive!

Any word as to if Gamestop is doing a midnight launch?

Heck, I'd consider even opening up my 4G tether in the store for people who want to do transfers. ;)

Amazon US doesn't carry any Nintendo hardware.

It's a shame because they're usually my go to place for anything. I originally bought the 3DS when it came out from amazon.

But I guess it's fine that I found an alternative, they started charging tax where I lived :c

Is the US really only getting red and blue? No black? :( Because Gamestop only had blue and red...

Technically, they're two toned. Blue on the outside, black on the inside (same goes for red). So it's black in the sense that you're not looking at the outside of the handheld :P

But to answer your original question, yes those are the only two color choices for NA. Japan is the only region to get a full color handheld (white, which I would have preferred over these two toned handhelds).

Ah, I see... I agree with you. I guess I'll wait for a solid-color 3DS, then. Two-tone red/blue + black seems like an...unusual launch color choice.

The $19.00 cradle has to come with an AC Adapter too, right...?

The one for the regular 3DS is only $4.00

If I ever got an XL I'd definitely want a cradle, but that's a pretty steep price for the convenience.

Im going to pick one up if I can get $100 credit at gamestop. Does anyone know what I need to bring them? Is the system itself enough, or do I need everything it came with like the charger and AR cards?

I can't wait till Sunday! I'm glad Ninty went with the XL first instead of a stop-gap 3DSi or something.

Best part? I'm getting it for $80! Future Shop is having a trade 5, get it free promo with the XL, and a ton of the eligible games are available from a local trading site for $20 or less! So pumped!

A tad absurd we're so excited for a handheld that is technically equivalent to one that we already own :/

One more day.

Probably because its everything the OG 3DS should have been to begin with. Those small ass screens are a no-no. This one fits more comfortably in your hands (according to most posters). The 3D still seems to be hit or miss. Some say its much better, others say its the same, others say its worse. All in all though, I'm getting this for the bigger screens. Its tough going from Vita to OG 3DS. Now I don't have to worry about that.

I'm looking forward to it because I came to the 3DS from the DSi XL and was immediately disappointed with the 3DS. Everything was suddenly tiny, the dpad was in the absolute worst place, and they released a brand new handheld without changing the way the eshop works (purchases tied to hardware). So at least the 3DS XL will correct two of those problems. Can't wait to play my DS games on the big screen again. Even if they are lower fidelity than on the Dsi XL.

Holy crap, Nintendo really gouging the price on the XL cradle alone.

The retail price for the AC adapter AND cradle for the standard 3DS is $13.99.
The cradle alone is $4.00 on their store.
