ICO, SotC, God of War1/2 to have PS Vita remote play

RemotePlay still needs a lot of work compared to say... AirPlay.

RemotePlay can only be registered to one PS3 per Vita. I have 2 PS3s and have to repair when I switch them. The pairing process requires you to type a number. Connecting to a PS3 also takes a while, and a few screens. Apple AirPlay is automatic and almost instant. You simply choose an iOS devices from a dropdown list. There is no modal "Please wait" screen at all.

The RemotePlay UI can be confusing. Took me a while to figure out I need to tap on the right border to see a list of "remote" buttons. Those buttons are also not too responsive.

All in all, beyond the raw technologies, Sony need to put in some good effort to make it usable for lay people.

prehaps due to the power of the vita they can use a better compressed video stream which allows for less lag and a better quality picture :)

Be warned though, patch is huge by neogaf standards. Will take a long time to DL with PSN speeds as they are.

Checking SOTC out now.

Thw gow patch was 39mb and I've tried gow2 it looks and plays great, sony should get working on a new gow for vita though!

I'm really interested to hear how well this works because remote play on the PSP was totally unusable.

And given that this is several years on and after the Gaikai purchase I'm expecting something fairly special. If it works as well as it needs to (given that the WiiU can do this), I'll be using this feature quite a lot.

Still going to set my expectations fairly low though.

God of War patch is up in the EU. Tried it! Not impressed, I'm afraid. The image quality is fine, opening GOW2 scenes looks amazing on Vita and the backpad support (activates magic) works great. But it's just the...absolutely.....constant....gamebreaking....lag. I guess it depends on your connection, but cutscenes are unwatchable and the audio cuts out constantly. I switched the game off when I failed the first QTE twice (launching from a catapult at the Colossus of Rhodes - a QTE I would never, ever fail normally). At certain points the game would pause for as much as 5-10 seconds. The idea for remote play is a great one, but as it stands it's nigh-on unplayable for me.

i was really sceptical

because already on the xmb its laggy and the IQ isnt perfect (even in +1)

i tried SOTC. Almost no latency at all, and the IQ is quite good. a little bit blurry and when u turn around the camera really fast , you can see some artefacts, but beside this its great

i wish to have GOW 3 remote play...right now we can play Gow 1/2 and both PSP titles on the vita :)

im trying Gow2 right now

cutscenes are perfect , gameplay is really good... though doesnt look like 60fps? maybe 30? if someone can confirm....

I've tried Ico and it's pretty much amazing, looks great and it's perfectly playable (no noticeable lags, slowdowns).
But Ico is a slow paced game, tonight I'd like to try God of War.
Btw this seems a vast improvement over the regular remote play (even just the PS3 desktop).
It's obvious that it's a different optimized tech.

So some saying no lag, some saying unplayably laggy.

Need to test this for myself.

I have zero lag when I play in a 5m range. Ico plays just as it's supposed to play.
I've been playing directly with the PS3 Wi-Fi connection, I'm going to try what happens with my wifi router.

I think TLOU would work extremely well with a vita app that you can play the whole game on vita, but all your menus, bullet counts, and everything on your backpack is on your vita. Basically there are no huds on the TV screen and when you open the backpack like here, it would all be on vita. There should be a hardcore mode with no huds for people with no vitas too but that's another discussion.

OT, this and cross buy type of things are the type of shit that would sell me on vita.

I agree with you. I hope the TLOU and B:TS will incorporate some sort of assymetric game design.

Lag seems entirely dependent on your router.

Someone mentioned using your PS3 as a wifi access point. Maybe that lets your vita talk directly to the PS3 instead of going through a router? Would make sense if that's better, if that's the case.

Anyway. Quite curious to try it myself, although I will have to go through a router...my PS3 doesn't have wifi.

I actually have had remote play run better across the internet than when in my own apartment due to my awful Xfinity router. I need to replace that damn thing- my upload speeds are horrible.

God of War 2 plays brilliantly. My internet is shit, the cutscenes are a bit jittery... But gameplay is good :)

for the record, here's a speedtest

Define brilliant...? I'm so close to purchasing one of the GoW games off of PSN right now.

Well, for me it plays fine, but i have an outstanding ability to not notice any kind of lag in gameplay. Controlled just as well as on PS3, looked pretty good, definitely not unplayable in any way.

I'd say buy GoW anyway because they're brilliant, even without Remote Play

It looks and plays great but i don't think it's 60fps which we get by playing it on the ps3

This is what I don't get... should your wi-fi quality have anything to do with this? I thought it was an ad-hoc connection between the PS3 and the Vita.
It works via a wifi router or using your ps3 as a wifi access point

Setting your PS3 has a wifi access point .. how does one do that? Is that just a setting on the PS3?

Considering you have already registered the vita with your ps3;
-Settings->Remote Play settings->Remote Start->on
-Enable wifi on your vita by the settings and you should see the ps3 as an access point, connect to it
-Then select remote play from the network menu in the ps3 xmb
-Select Remote play on your vita->Connect via private network
-Done

Thanks. I will try this out tonight and report back. Wireless N router at home with 50 down and 30 up. Hopefully both ways (internet) and PS3 access point work fine.

It would have been nice if Sony upgraded their wireless adapter on the PS3. That should also improve remote play.

No probs, after doing all this just go into the custom remote play settings in the remote play settings menu on your ps3 to change your wpa key

Are either of the patches up for US?

EDIT; God of War patch is up. No Ico/Sotc though =[ hopefully it goes up before I have to leave for work. would love to play some today.

Ok tried ico so far, awesome
Sony need to update all their 1st party games to support this and encourage 3rd parties to also..
Lying on my bed playing ICO on the vita rather than sat In the living room..
I can only dream that they make this mandatory for all future releases...

Can you rank how good it is? Say if old PSP remote play was a 2/10 and playing ico natively without remote play is a 10/10 where would you put this new vita remote play?

I didn't get a chance to try SotC/Ico yet but GOW plays fantastic. I noticed no lag besides at one point when Kratos was recieving his first magic power. Other than that it was perfect. It might take a second getting used to using the back touch for R2 and L2 but once you get that down it's awesome.

I don't understand the need to select "Network --> Remote Play" on the PS3 first before using remote play on the Vita. Is that only necessary if you are connecting via Private Network? Otherwise, it doesn't seem to make much sense in the context of the ability to Remote Start, i.e. Yay, I can remote start the PS3, but I can't do anything with it, because I'm not at home to select "Network --> Remote Play"???

In other words, am I doing something wrong?

If you remote start it, it automatically boots into remote play mode.

I tried SOTC it looked fine.. But the lag.. Even the music lagged for me. But it got better after a couple of minutes.. Still not perfect, but playable.

ICO looked even better, and played better, still laggy but not as much as sotc..

But I would always prefer playing the games on my ps3.

You need to enable "Remote Start" in "Settings". Then you can RemotePlay into your PS3 when it's off.

However, if your PS3 is already in XMB (or running an app/game), you're out of luck. You will need to manually start the RemotePlay app for your Vita to connect to the PS3.

Ah, playing SotC whilst having a dump.

Can life get any better than this?

Perhaps smoking Cigar while taking a dump playing Vita ?
