Steam Greenlight: 1000 games and counting, more Greenlit every few weeks

Democracy in action!
Annoying internet fads in action. I'm surprised there haven't been any MLP games on there -- I guess no one is stupid enough to flirt with that lawsuit bait.

As someone who's been rather bitter about the whole ordeal I have to admit this is a lot better start than I had dared hope. I did not expect them to pick of 10 games at once. Still a long way to go for some of my favorites though (and even longer for my own game)

I don't think that's right. If it were, that would mean that Greenlight had failed. Sequence is a quality game that deserves to be on Steam.

It would have a good % ... it is a polished game with an unique gameplay mixing 2 popular genres.

How long did it take from submiting it to steam till being acepted and released ?
Maybe. But I had very little hype, meh graphics, a totally unproven genre and a totally unproven dev team...I mean, it *might* have worked out, but I don't know.

Submitting to accepting was technically way longer. It never would have happened but for the intervention of a mysterious soul, but upon his intervention, it was nearly instantaneous.

I wonder if the 100% mark is reserved for games Valve actually doesn't want to have on Steam. An extremely hard to achieve goal as some kind of escape route for games that turn out to be popular, even though Valve isn't satisfied with what it offers. (I could see Postal 2 becoming such a case, lol)

In any case, the first batch of Greenlights is pretty decent and it shows that ~15% is already enough to have a reasonable chance to get on Steam. Though, I expect that games won't have it as easy in the future if Greenlight should become more popular among users.

However, I still think there's much room for improvement. Most of the games that crossed the magical 10% barrier are more-or-less good-looking 3D games (in some cases the games actually fool the users since they are just comparably easy mods; eg Slender) in popular genres. Indie games with quirky graphics in genres not as popular don't see comparable popularity and to the most part have problems to even cross the 5% barrier.

Maybe different categories with different Steam-entry barriers or whatever would help things. At it is, Greenlight seems still a little unbalanced.

(And I agree that Sequence would have a very hard time on it. Graphically unimpressive, quirky genre, an unknown developer... There are good-looking 2D games by great and established developers that are struggling to gain %s, Sequence would have probably been around 1-3% at this point...)

The Stanley Parable: HD Remix was added to Greenlight. It certainly has an unconventional typographic presentation but I enjoyed the original so looking forward to seeing this do well on Greenlight.

The FAQ has some gems too:

Woah, hold on, where is this coming from? I thought I was asking the questions.
Are you? Why was that? Because your text is boldface? Because you spoke first? Who exactly are you? Do you know? Can you tell me, right now, who you are?

Wow, Stanley Parable's use of the Greenlight page is pretty awesome. I especially love what he's done with the screenshots. Really great idea that conveys the game's feeling pretty good, actually.

Ah man that "game" was so great.

Voted. Looks very interesting.

I came here to post that Cakebread had stuck this on Steam, but happily, someone beat me.

This is one of my personal favorite mods, and it's one I would highly recommend anyone who hasn't tried it yet play.

Yes! Best screenshots on Greenlight already.

Favourited.

Seems a bit too directed at people who already know what the Stanley Parable is.
Why? It says quite clearly what the original Stanley Parable is in the first paragraph on the Greenlight page.

If you want to find out more, you can research it. If you don't, that's fine too. The Stanley Parable is too unconventional and interesting to use a traditional sales pitch.

Glad to see Neotokyo is around 8 percent. I hope it gets into the next batch; I played the game when it first came out and it's amazing. Shame it never caught on at launch, but here's hoping the second time is the charm.

How weird, I guess I thought it was already one of the free mods on Steam back when they started supporting mods. But yeah, it's an interesting game if you can get friends to fill a server with you.

Sorry for shameless advertising, guys. I'd really like to make a separate topic for the game but this option is not available to me.

Anyway, we made a short gameplay overview video for our strategy game Eador. You can watch it on our Greenlight page.

Always makes me feel good when I follow a Greenlight link and see that I already upvoted it.

Looks professional and I like the art style. :)
