Resident Evil 6 - Review Thread | Activist Reviews and the Hate Patrol Destroy Truth™

I give Leon's campaign 5/5 botox injections

Chris gets 3/10 shits

And Jake gets 8.8 Troy Baker baked models of Troy

I can't wait to actually play the game instead of read a bunch of hate filled reviews...

Yep. Join in on the OT. At least there you'll find people who like the game and aren't just spending their free time in a thread related to a game they don't care about and try to "sell" you on games coming out next week.

Maybe people will do the same thing these guys are doing and jump in the Dishonored and XCOM threads just to say they don't like the games.

The feeling of 'survival' is truly imparted as you battle the zombies and monsters. 10

Reviewer 2:

Dark graphics make this a very scary title to play, especially at night. 10

Reviewer 3:

Past Biohazard characters return, though a cute new 'mascot-type' could have helped. 9

Reviewer 4:

Just like the Gears or Calls, this title truly has an "American" flavor that is very stylish. 10

Calls, hahahahaha. Accurate though

I knew Capcom was slowly killing the survival horror in Resident Evil

Slowly? Are you kidding me? They already buried it in BH4.

Story: This is probably the best story to encapsulate Biohazard outbreak in major city. You really feel the scope of the outbreak and how overwhelming it can be. I also think the characters have better dialogue and interaction with each other in comparison to the last few new RE.

Scenarios: This game has the MOST varied scenarios of all the new RE games. Thanks to the various locales, locations, and enemies, there are numerous scenarios offered in the game which includes but not limited to: survival, action, stealth, co-op, vehicles, and boss fights.

Apart from the dialogue, what you listed in story should be in scenario.

I will definitely play this game someday on PC (when it is super cheap), but I have RE5 and haven't touched it. I loved the early games and still liked RE4 because of its atmosphere. RE5 just didn't grab me at all, and I never got very far. I think the initial bright lit area just didn't have any atmosphere so I didn't care. All my environments were day ones when I quit.

I was feeling like RE6 would probably be terrible after reading all the negative reviews.

Then I watched the Gametrailers review, and all of that footage makes the game look pretty good to me.

I actually have the urge to play, and confront some of the enemies that I witnessed in that review.

Worst thing about this is that I'm unsure whether these quotes are made-up or actually real. Which says a lot about the state of game reviews.

They wanted a piece of that Gears and CoD pie . I blame society.

It's a mix of society and the AAA industry. Executives breathing down the necks of developers for more money, making developers more inclined to use stupid shit that, while meant to cater for the "mass market", actually do a shit job of it and make the mass market despise them.

I got a call that my copy of RE6 is at the EB Games... but if I wanna cancel it, I still have to go to the store.

Still waffling on whether I want this or not. On one hand, I was excited for it. On the other, apparently it's not very good at all.

Ew gurlz. Why would I let them in?

You're throwing a temper tantrum. Grow up.

Would you feel it was unfair if I hated on a game I never touched?

Really? REALLY??? This is why I stay away from Gaming side I guess.

I'm not saying I'm going to do it. I'm just saying. Both sides are being unfair really. People like a game, they defend it. People don't, they bash it.

And with that I'm out of this thread.

4 started the shift to action, but still kept plenty of horror in the game. I could live with more action, but wondered why there couldn't be more scenes like the one at the prison toward the end of the game, which reminded me of old Resident Evil or Silent Hill.

4 is not 6. Capcom has completely misinterpreted the praise for 4 into thinking we all wanted a Resident Evil action game. Who knows, maybe most of us do, and it will sell a zillion copies. I'm not buying though. Maybe I will go play back and play Code Veronica for old times sake instead.

No. Scenarios are the outbreak thing. The story also includes the involvement of Leon/Helena, Chris/Piers, and especially Jake/Sherry part. I also think the story involves
Ada a lot more than the past games have. She plays a major role in this one

What part of 4 was horror? It wasn't scary at all. Let's face it, the downfall of the horror element started in 4. The game was barely scary then. The camp didn't help either. Napoleon midget? Ugh. And the control was awful considering the new breed of faster, in-group enemies they wanted to use. At least RE6 gives you better control to deal with those crowds.

6 has a lot more viable horror segments than 4. CAPCOM has not misinterpreted the fact that survival horror (translation: tank controls and fixed camera angles) sells less than action.

You mentioned the outbreak thing in Story. As for Ada,
she isn't involved any more than she was in BH4 and Separate Ways.

So now they have janky controls and a camera that goes all over the place

Progress

Didn't say they were perfect, did I? I will say that the controls and camera are not as bad to me now as they initially were. I've had more fun with this game than 5, which I played after competing 6, partially because of the expanded set of controls.

Who gives a flying fuck when one's one of the best games of the past 10 years and the other is a steaming turd.

While I wouldn't say 6 is one of the best games of the past decade, it's definitely not "a steaming turd." That would be applicable to Operation Raccoon City, but not to this. It has its fair share of problems, definitely, but they don't warrant the trashing the game is getting from some people unless its problems (which, for me, do not include the controls or camera) are being focused on more than the rest of it. Some people find issue with the controls and camera. Some don't mind them. Others hate the QTEs. Some hate the action slant and Michael Bay-esque explosions and set-pieces. Personally, the only thing that actively annoyed me about the game was the amount of QTEs.

And out of all of those how many prominent reviewers or reviewers are there who are very good in their trade and in what they do?

This is probably the funniest thing I've read in a while.

Translation: Of all those reviewers, how many are there who actually have good opinions?

Reviews aren't solely about opinions. Don't make snide remarks. Forming constructive criticism about a game's design and praising it or breaking it down is one of the reviewer's job. If you seriously think that's how my comment reads go right ahead. You're the one who will end up looking look like a fool.

Based on the demo and the general awfulness seen on the streams I think it's reasonable to call RE6 a steaming turd; especially if one has low tolerance for anti-gameplay bullshit.

Don't get me wrong, the game is disappointing and way below RE standards, but all the 3's and 4's its getting is too harsh I think.

The thing is, the game is crazy uneven. The game goes from a 2/10 (I'm looking at you vehicle sections) to a 9/10 in a heart beat.

It also can be a 6/10 at times. The quality is all over the place. I know it's a badly made game, yet I'm still utterly addicted to it and having fun.

I think it evens out to something in the 7 or 8 range.

By the way, I wonder what the future of RE is now?
