Personally for me it was interesting to see how my politics changed while working for a defense contractor and then subsequently getting laid off. Was amusing to get mailings suggesting who to vote for but not forcing to keep our interests in line with the business. After getting laid off and defense cuts costing me my job was also interesting to see how less of a shit I gave about maintaining a military presence overseas.

Yeah, I get into this debate with several hardline Republicans at work, who continually say 'you should thank Obama if you lose your job or if this depot closes, because he's the won who wants to cut our defense budget by rushing us out of Afghanistan and iraq!'

To which I just reply glibly that I don't know how 14 years by the time 2014 comes around is 'rushing' out of Afghanistan, and I don't know how ending a horrific endless war in Iraq that we went into for the wrong reasons is rushing out either.

There was a NPR Planet Money podcast with multiple economist from both sides of the spectrum, and ending the mortgage interest deduction was one of the few things they all agreed on. Evey economists said it is awful for the economy.

It probably is. But what are they gonna replace it with? I get a large deduction thanks to it, sure. I also pay a lot of property taxes and contribute to my local economy. Getting rid of it and replacing it with bigger tax cuts for Paris Hilton will mean an almost double-digit increase on my taxes. So I'm gonna fight for the deduction tooth and nail until I am convinced that DC isn't a city run by and for the plutocrats.

I think GAF's enthusiasm is feeding off each other personally. Biden may have dominated through his presence, but to many, it was through an over-bearing display that arguably harmed him, which is a shame, because his responses and points were well made. It's interesting. Ryan didn't particularly show us anything new, and so we are measuring who won the debate based solely on Biden's performance

Why? Anyway, it's the only break us middle class get, I would only be okay with it if the cap gains as income loop hole and off shore account loo hole were closed first.
