Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

awwwwww yeaaaay I'm back whatup whatup!!!

I spent like half an hour trying to get this darn snes emulator to work,

tried a fresh batch of roms and concluded that... it dont work -_-...

of the handful I tried the only two that worked are Goof Troop and Super Off Road.

the thing these 2 have in common is that theyre both of the 512 kilo file sizes.

any other roms I had were like 1 or 2 mega sized,

so trying to run like R Type 3 or Zombies Ate My Neighbors resulted in a black screen of nothing...

I can still access the emulator's menu tho... are there certain settings I need to make these bigger roms work?

coz after trying and trying I have no idea how whitehawk can get Yoshi Island to run.

Are you using this emulator? http://www.emucr.com/2011/10/snes9x-euphoria-r5-beta-3-for-ofw.html the screenshot you posted the other day didn't say euphoria in the upper left hand corner. Which leads me to believe you could be on a non-optimal emulator.

I am using that one, I upgraded after whitehawk shared the link to QJ's download page.

if other ppl can get theirs to work then it really makes me wonder why I cannot?

I got yoshi island to run as well. Seemed glitchy though. I have a few roms in the 1-3mb range like mortal kombat 3 and kirby that I haven't tested thoroughly gameplay wise but they did seem to boot fine without issue. I'd like to know how to access some sort of options menu in the emulator if there is one.
yes, to access the menu hit L and R simultaneously. You can adjust graphic and sound settings, as well as save state options.

Thanks. Maybe it's your roms? Dunno why it's not working out for you. Whitehawk did mention something a few pages back about a default emulator setting being set to "3" and to change that but I am too sleepy and lazy to find the post and what he was reffering to. ~_~

JEKKI I'm not sure why your roms are not working.

I'm running the GBA version of Yoshi's Island. Runs at full speed (minor slowdown on some levels). SNES version runs quite slow.

I don't believe that version will work. Needs to have UPDATED in the title.

Can anybody check how Valkyrie Profile and Jeanne D'arc look compared to the PSP version? I'm interested in the difference in colour.

I have a question. I downloaded Mad Blocker before it was removed and patched. It is a "install bubble" on my PS3.

Now, it seems the vita cannot see it in CMA :( Is there a way I can transfer the game?

Try SNES9xTYL 0.4.2 from here: http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=10859

Works perfect for me, but a wee bit slow on some games.

I'll likely be updating once Need for Speed Most Wanted comes out.
There is always a chance that a new game will work after the next firmware update, so all hope isnt lost after the next firmware update :)

I dont think there is much you can do unfortunately. I heared that the game is blacklisted, or maybe it wont work because the game isnt available at the store. And when the game comes back to the store, then a new Vita firmware is most likely out, meaning that you must update your Vita firmware to do the transfer from your PS3.

Ah crap, can anyone confirm that you can't even transfer from PS3 if it's already downloaded there?
I had planned on transferring the non PS+ version of MBA on my PS3 to a 2nd Vita.

Not possible anymore?

The only other thing I can think of is backing up MBA on my current vita.
And restoring to the new Vita... crap, I don't think that would work either huh?

I cant confirm it myself unfortunately, i've only heard that it doesnt work anymore. But this is the 2nd time i hear that it doesnt work, so i assume that it wont work.

If you use OpenCMA, i think maybe a restore could work. I'm not 100% sure though.

It takes a while to force new games to use certain firmwares. They usually run 6 months behind.
It probably depends much on what the firmware does. For example, Portal 2 was one of the first PS3 games to require firmware 3.60. Firmware 3.60 was released 10th March 2011, while Portal was released 19th April 2011, about 1 month later. That is almost instant concidering it takes some weeks to print and ship the game. Firmware 3.60 was however pretty big in terms of anti-hacking, while other firmware updates that just fix some smaller stuff might not be prioritised that much when it comes to being required by games.

They're probably working hard on the next big Vita feature to require a mandatory firmware update which will probably be the PS Plus integration.

Playing KH BBS is so much fun on the Vita. Especially the command board is perfect for subway trips.

wait, what? man, i haven't been following this at all. we can play our umd-rips on vita through homebrew now? that's awesome news. bbs is all i really care about.

Just using your post as another excuse to post this again :)

That alone is worth it to me. I'm getting one for P4G anyway, even though I was already having pre-buyers remorse since there isn't a whole lot of other games on the system I want. All of the stuff in here is just icing on the cake, and reading that I'll be able to play my UMD rips on the Vita seals the deal.

Well... this only works if you had a Vita and got the game from the store already.

I always thought BBS was like the other DS and 3DS spinoffs (didn't like those) but you guys are making me think it's more of a sequel, it's that good? Might have to buy it then :o

This is true! Sweet! NFS and AC:R here I come!
I forgot that Wololo said that there is a chance that the kernel exploit might be patched in the next firmware, meaning that a new potential exploit game will only work with VHBL (in other words, no PSP games will run). Hard to say for sure at this point what will happen though.

why didnt you transfer as soon as you bought it or DL directly on Vita? Your loss bro. Maybe the next exploit allows kernel access+user mode.

Does anyone know if Sega CD games are working on this? I don't want to go to the trouble of searching through my garage for Snatcher if they don't.

Looking for some suggestions. I bought Brave Story digitally from PSN before it got taken down so I could play it on my Vita. Sony had other plans, as there is no way to officially move it to the system. Can't even transfer from PS3.

So how can I get it to the Vita? I can get it to PC obviously, but I'm stuck at that point since it's an eboot.

Are you going to be playing the game on a Vita with custom firmware? If you are, just download the tools to extract an ISO from the Eboot and put it on your Vita.

so I jus realized there are 2 versions of the Vita,

wifi and 3G.

could the differences in models affect how the homebrews and CFW behave on each system?

coz as I have mentioned before, lots of snes roms do not work on mine,

and I remembered that I have a 3G model (possibly the lesser common one?)

it was given to me like that, and I would think anyone interested in doing hackings would not choose to buy a 3G?

I have a 3G model and haven't had problems with SNES roms so far, other than obvious slowdown on some more demanding games.

What games are you having problems with?

Maybe I can try out some roms on mine that aren't working on yours?

BBS it's a pretty complete KH game, even if redoing some stuff three times kinda gets tedious

How did you transfer the files? if by ftp, did you make sure to only transfer one at a time? (one active transfer setting in ftp client on pc)

There is a PSP Genesis emulator for the PSP that supports SEGA CD games, picodrive is what it's called.

I'm not sure if it'll work on the Vita (my Vita is currently DOA), but it runs great on the PSP.

I still don't know what benefit moving games to ms0:/ISO has other than removing the annoying "Move this backup to ms0:/ISO?" prompt. Most of the time it just causes problems for my backups. Failure to boot, freezing; once my Vita even rebooted during the start sequence of a game.

I think I'll just forego the ISO folder and keep dropping files into the MBA savedata folder. That worked foolproof.

Does this hack also lets you play downloaded vita games?

No, its strictly PSP stuff (which is how it should be).

This is easily the best of both worlds, we can do (almost) everything a PSP can do homebrew wise, yet the Vita is still secured.

Its like running a DS flash cart on a 3DS, you have full DS access, but the 3DS mode is still locked down.
