All these kendrick fans popping up left and right due to the buzz behind it. It's an ok album, but damn like it's not even up there as the way people making it out to be.

That's a pretty fucked up position you got there

So Kendrick should remain unknown forever? What is this hipster bullshit? The West needs a new king and I'm happy that more and more people get in touch with his stuff

It's a fucking amazing album, and I didn't pop out of nowhere due to "buzz". Section.80 was my favorite album last year, tied with Cunnylinguists, and I have listened to most of the mandatory hip-hop albums from the 90s onwards. I think it's a modern classic, and haven't been as excited about an artist since Lupe dropped Food & Liquor.

It's cool if you don't like the album. There are a lot of great albums I don't like myself. But dismissing the majority of music critics and fans (just check metacritic) as people jumping on a bandwagon is disrespectful as hell.

You should feel bad about your opinion, it should keep you up at night struggling to come to grips with how foolish you are. You should be writing bad poetry and posting emo Facebook status updates. You should be drinking shitty white wine and texting your friends and listening to Jack Johnson while you mourn the choices you've made in life.

Damn, hahaha

I didnt know you could only be a fan before he gets any buzz, I guess I never knew that rule. Guess I better throw out my Kanye cd's, Jay-Z cd's, Biggie Cd's, Pac cd's. Really, you are reaching and trying to act superior for no reason. Also could you elaborate on why it isn't what people are making it to be, that would be helpful.

It is exactly what you said; Hipster Bullshit. He seems to be the type that thinks he is superior for listening to artists before they make it, and when they do, he instantly turns on them and thinks everybody is dumb for liking that band or person now.

I also love that when there's critical consensus about something, it's the majority that is required to explain why they think it is good. If you're yelling that the king has no clothes, either it's damn obvious that he has no clothes or you're gonna look like an idiot.

This is probably the biggest bandwagon album in last 2 years -_-.

Disagree completely. The whole problem with hip hop right now is the amount of crap out there so to appreciate this album you'd first need to realize that it's "real" hip-hop so it's hard to bandwagon it if you get what i'm saying

That said, of course more people are beginning to listen to K.dot now as he gets more exposure but that's what happens when you release the album of the year.

bitch don't kill my vibe

So let's post lyrics that show Kendrick's lyrical skills:

good kid:
Look inside these walls
and you see them having withdrawals
Of a prisoner on his way
Trapped inside your desire
To fire bullets that stray
Track attire just tell you I'm tired and ran away
I should ask a choir what do you require
To sing a song that acquire me to have faith
As the record spin I should pray
For the record I recognize that I'm easily prey
I got ate alive yesterday
I got animosity building
It's probably big as a building
Me jumping off of the roof
Is me just playing it safe

m.a.a.d. city
When you hop on that trolley
Make sure your colors correct
Make sure you're corporate, or they'll be calling your mother collect
They say the governor collect,
all of our taxes except
When we in traffic and tragic happens, that shit ain't no threat
You movin backwards if you suggest that you sleep with a Tec
Go buy a chopper and have a doctor on speed dial, I guess

It'd love a site that showed visually how the syllables are perfectly timed to the beat. That would end the he has no flow debate for sure...

I'm enjoying playing this back each day but god, for some reason I can't stand "backstreet freestyle" Hate hate hate it.

Album is ok. Lyrically its nothing special. Chino XL's album is far far better

This is the funniest thing ive ever seen. I thought Chino hung up the mic a while back?

Good Kid is in a toss up with Poetic Justic for worst song. Neptunes beats are garbage, ruins the whole fucking song for me.

What i dont understand is the hate for Backseat Freestyle. Now that shit goes.

Now that I've listened to the whole album and everything I can safely skip Good Kid and Real now because they're boring as shit.

Sometimes skip Poetic Justice too.

Section 80 is great album. I love the beats, like No Make-Up, F* Your Ethnicity, and Rigamortus, and HiiPower.

F* Your Ethnicity is especially great. beat sounds almost gamey or somehing during the end of beat.

ADHD's got a pretty spacey beat. Top 3 Kendrick song alongside Spiteful Chant.

In regards to HiiPower it's a nice beat but kind of repetitive, I don't know if I can take a whole J Cole/Kendrick album. I hope production will be from in-house TDE dudes mostly. And minimal J Cole verses haha.

Poetic Justice is my least favorite track. They didn't even flip the sample. He's rapping right over Janet Jackson.

Yeah. As a full-cohesive album this is clearly tops. But I think Section 80s got the better collection of songs for me.

Top 3 from this:

Maad City
Bitch Don't Kill my Vibe
Money Trees

I'll especially be bumping the latter two years from now.

Real hip-hop? How is there fake hip-hop?

Section.80 is fucking great. Makes me more surprised that I like GKMC more. Hol' Up is so good.

Kendrick is special.

Section 80 is better than MAAD City. Well, it's better, because there are more songs I like on Section 80 than MAAD City. The only song that really sticks out in MAAD City is Money Trees.

The ONLY track that sticks is money trees. Damn. I feel bad for you.

Yeah Disco, the samples were a big problem supposedly.

This guy knows

It's odd to me that people can appreciate Backstreet Freestyle and not Good Kid. Both are fantastic, necessary songs within the context/story of the album.

I think good kid is good enough on its own right, but being played back to back with the banger that is mAAd city makes it look real poor.

As for BSF, I get why people can't stand it. It does have a much harsher tone compared to Sherane and Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe, so it stands out like a sore thumb. That being said, I love it and it does fit the narrative of the album at that point ( Kendrick kickin it with the homies, bout to go fuck shit up and not give a fuck) very well.

you killed my cousin back in ’94 - fuck yo truce

Yo DyTonic

Tell me where yo daddy stay, where yo momma stay or where you grandma stay

nibel wylin on a island out here

people talmbout no flow, bandwagons etc soundin like YAWK YAWK YAWK YAWK

This album has great replay value. It gets better with every listen.

yep. except for 2-3 songs i skip over, ive been listening to it beginning to end for a few days now.

"sing about me" really grew on me. but thats cause i usually skip over long songs the first few times to get a general feel for an album
