Went to one Best Buy and two Meijers

Everyone was waiting inside the BB when I got there, lots of people there with tables filled with accessories and games/guides

1st Meijer only had eight systems and sold the last three systems they had when I had arrived

2nd Meijer was out of Deluxe but had two Basics left

I'll be back out in a few hours to a few Meijers and a Wal-Mart to see what they have

If you live in Hampton Roads the Best Buy in Newport News had 5 Deluxe and around 20 Basic for sale in the AM....a few tried to buy 2nds but they refused....good hunting (I think its going to be easier than you think)

So I just got back from Future Shop.

Yeah.

I wish the guy on the phone today would have told me they weren't going to open the doors for people camping for Wii U. You know, instead of saying "yes, we will open the doors for people camping for Wii U".

No way I'm freezing my nuts off for that thing. So before I went home, I checked out some other locations near my house. Surely some lines have been formed by now. This was at midnight.

Future Shop: Noone.
Wal Mart: Noone.
Toys R Us: Noone.
Best Buy: Noone.
EB Games: Noone.
EB Games 2: Noone.

Yeah. Compare this to the Wii launch in 2006. I went to Best Buy at 11PM and was 11th in line. By 3AM, the line was full and we were sending people away. Apparently the Toys R Us and EB Games nearby were totally packed as well.

How is this thing sold out again? Where are the crazy soccer moms?

I think I'll just be picking up my pre-ordered console at 8AM tomorrow. Save the campout for the new Xbox next year ;)

Showed up at my Walmart at 11:50 and got the last unit they had which was white (4 black/4 white total). They didn't take layaway preorders and said they would only be getting one more shipment of 6-8 before Christmas so I snagged it. Might try another place that is supposed to have 4 black units tomorrow morning and hook my sis up for her son this Christmas with this one if I can. Kind of sucks that we called earlier today and the employee told me there was already a line started. The line consisted of one person and the second didn't get there until 10pm. I just walked in for the heck of it close to 12. Oh well.

Last in line at a best buy :-P about 20 ppl here, just trying my luck. I'm preordered at a gamestop so I'm covered either way

So I'm thinking of getting some Wii games with my console tomorrow.

I'm hesitating between The Last Story and Xenoblade.

Thoughts ?

Depends on what type of RPG you want to play. Xenoblade is a single-player MMO - it plays just like a (more linear) WoW clone, complete with pointless quests. The Last Story is a standard JRPG.

Ya know, something else I've been wondering about is how online retailers have affected the launch lines. This isn't 2006 anymore. I'm not trying to justify anything, just thinking out loud

From my time with the controller, button layout seems like it could be an issue. The X button is very close to the right stick and easy to hit.

Well, the Verge's problem with the button layout was that the A button was on the right. They apparently are only used to games where the accept button is on the bottom, cancel on the right. My experience has been, that's more normal in the US, but the accept button on the right is more normal in Japan.

I have mine preordered at Gamestop but I'm gonna go to Target in a few hours and try to pick one up so I can have it a few hours earlier. I'm pretty excited.

Anyone in Montreal here to report on any lining up? Thinking of heading to Walmart in a few hours since I don't think any here are 24/7 even with the holidays coming. Had a preorder elsewhere but it was cancelled on me ;-;

ugh, i just lost $20, the screen protector by PDP is garbage, don't buy it guys, oilness after its on and it doesn't cover the entire screen lol

get Hori, i am gonna pre order it now. that was the first $10 wasted

the other $10 wasted is the Wii U InvisiShell, bought it cause i thought of the smudges but the shell left a scratch on the pad after a couple minutes.

Oh wow, thanks for the warnings.

Walked in day one!

I was 10th in line at a Walmart.

Kid behind me almost cried when he realized I got the last blackie.

Might have to flip my Gamestop pre-order for the good of Christmas.

Just picked up my Deluxe from the Walmart layaway. Quick and easy.

It was funny walking by electronics and seeing all the people in line. They watched me carry my Wii U away like "lolwut."

Anyway, gamepad is charging right now. Figured I'd eat dinner and get some impressions on GAF before diving in. All I have right now are Nintendo Land and Assassin's Creed 3 (gonna pick up Mario and Blops 2 tomorrow at Gamestop). Any AC3 Wii U impressions yet?

It was dead at my best buy only 10 or so people there :/
From what I saw they had the 6 pre-order pick-ups, and maybe 15 basic and 15 deluxe.

Well, I'm back from my misadventures.

Walmart #1 (Lewisville, TX): Got there at 11:30, did my grocery shopping, and as I approached the electronics section a clerk approached me and asked if I was here for a Wii U. I said yes and she said she only had one basic model left in stock. I've got a basic model waiting for me tomorrow morning at Gamestop so I told her I wasn't interested and left. There were about 7-8 people there waiting. As I left one of them approached the clerk and asked if the Wii U's were one per customer, so I'm assuming he bought the one I wasn't interested in as well.

Walmart #2 (also in Lewisville): My husband called an got an older gentleman who had no idea what we were asking for. Eventually he was able to tell us "the new game is at register 17 if that's what you're looking for". When we arrived all they had were basic models in stock. Didn't ask how many, but there was at least one just sitting on the counter.

Walmart #3 (Highland Village): I called on the way to Walmart #2 and was told there was "a huge crowd in Electronics, so I doubt we have any left".

Walmart #4 (Carrollton): Also called on the way to Walmart #2 and was told that all the Wii U's had been claimed. Not sure how many there were in the first place.

Drove by our local Best Buy on the way home and they were all closed, so I'm assuming they didn't participate in any midnight launch. I'll probably call them and Target tomorrow and see if I can find a spare deluxe somewhere. If not, I've got a basic fully paid off at Gamestop, so whatever.

So I just got back from Future Shop.

Where are you located.. I was gonna get out the local fs at 2am

Got to Meijers at 8:30 and there was two guys in front of me already. Time went by pretty fast chatting with them about the Wii U and other games. They told us they had 12 consoles in all (6 deluxe and 6 basic) so I scored a deluxe as well the final pro controller!

Just cancelled my Deluxe preorder from Toys R Us after seeing it still hadn't shipped - I decided on a whim to drive to Wal-Mart at midnight to see if I could get lucky. No Deluxe consoles, but snagged myself an 8GB white. Now I'm stuck in system update hell, but I've got my Wii U!

I gots mine!
-I arrived at Walmart around 11:20ish, walked around for about 20 minutes (I didn't know there was a line at the layaway section.)
-Only 3 purchases ahead of me when I got there.
-Waited until 12:00 for them to pull boxes out and bought one (only the deluxe version for some reason, I estimated about 8-10)

As for the actual hardware...the black Wii U is sexy as hell. Shame its going to have finger prints all over it.

After calling several locations nearby a Wal-Mart tells me they have 4x Wii U Deluxe in stock and three people in line. I literally race myself over there as fast as I can, abiding traffic laws of course... I make it there, 4th in line, then proceed to wait in the arts and craft isle for 4 hours and now I own a Wii U Deluxe and a copy of New Super Mario Bros. U. :)

Good luck to everyone hunting theirs down.

So I'm at WalMart and I'm currently 9 of 8 for the last 8 consoles left... But there was one lady in line who left but is in store. She's not in line but the customers are trying to save her spot. Damn these good somalians.

the clerk told me to stay here. If she dont return, its mine. Pray for me gaf!
