im very srongly contemplating not hooking this up to a tv at all and keeping it in a centralized area where i can use the gamepad from both my living room and bedroom

I kinda did that for most of the day - played Sonic Racing, NSMBWU and browsed Miiverse. I have it hooked up in my basement but super easy to just grab the console and plug and bring them upstairs. Hope they figure out a range extender or something.

Not too worried about the slow OS yet--with an entire GB of RAM dedicated to it, my guess is that it just isn't properly optimized yet. A future firmware update will probably speed things up again.

That said, I always regret buying day one because of these issues.

How the fuck can i go online with this shit?????? Someone please help me out here.

I have tried everything and i even went and bought a damn Wii LAN Adapter and this shit still does not connect, i have removed the cat5 cable from 360,PS3 (Which work just fine) and nothing....I have yet to update this WII U and i got it at midnight.

every device works but i think i might have gotten a wii u console that does not work.

Any tips?
It needs the update. Calm the fuck down.

Yeah I'd be all for a range extender if they could release it for the right price. I feel like it would be expensive though :?

I'd like to know what Nintendo is using all this memory for if the OS is this slow. The Vita takes up 1/4 the space for the OS, and it's extremely quick.

I just think it isn't optimized yet. It seems bizarre, but it is their first real shot at an online system.

Even after that rather depressing Giant Bomb stream I've maintained my hype for tomorrow when I get the Wii U delivered. Hopefully Nintendo puts a high priority on fixing these OS speed issues. Not the biggest deal in the world to me, but still annoying that they would allow it to be that slow. Still, I'm really looking forward to NSMBU, looks fantastic.

*tries playing Nintendland again*

Oh awesome I finally have people in my park!

*tries to click one*

"Remember to connect to miiverse"

wha? But I am!

Oh well... maybe tomorrow that'll work.

A lot of potential for sure but it definitely feels rushed in so many areas. I guess this is what can happen when you have a hard holiday deadline to meet.

It works for other people so I'm guessing the problem is either a mistake you are making or your console.

Such negativity with this launch.... I had a nice day with the console and expected more positive comments.
I didnt...os is sluggish and looks dated
Blops 2 looks good but dam playing with the game pad is unplayable, buttons layout are terrible for this game
To add a friend is not simple look at the ign post
Most of the games are worst compared to 360 ps3
Anyone wants to buy my Wii U?

Oh wait, there we go... got a message to appear.

Wait... really?

"F*** Jews!"

Stay classy Miiverse... stay classy.

Oh wait, now it's "under review". Well at least that was quick.

Does the U in Wii U stand for Update? Because everything needs an update.

Wii U OS= Check
Netflix = Check
Nintendoland = Check
New Super Mario Brothers U = Check

Nintendo has made it to next gen I guess.

$150 shipped to Canada. Feel free to keep Black Ops II, I don't play Call of Duty. Let me know if you want to make a deal.

I normally wait on console launches too. This is my first launch day purchase since the original Xbox, and that had halo and Project Gotham Racing. I felt the hype of something new and boredom of a long gen. I didn't get a 360 until a year later when Gears came out, and maybe this console will be better by then too.

I haven't hooked mine up yet, but it's depressing to read all the hate.

I'm waiting until next year, but can I say that I'm rather amazed that Nintendo got away with the deluxe edition bullshit? Unless the regular edition was available in super limited quantities, anyway.

Cannot connect to my networks tried 3 different routers reset all the security reset all the pass phrases tried every security option on all 3 routers, 3 hours now and still cannot get it to connect it can see all the wifi networks but cannot connect to a single one, really losing my shit here!

So is the negativity coming more from people who actually have the WiiU or just the people who had been watching the Giantbomb stream? My friend bought one with NSMB and is having a blast with it. I even played it with him and my other buddy and it was a damn good time, but reading that thread/watching the stream killed my hype for it even though I just played it earlier.

So I am finally getting around to setting up my WiiU and I had a question...

During the initial setup, before the DAY 1 update, the system asked me to input my WEP key for wireless, but I have my system wired to my router.

has this happened to anyone else? Can I change it after I am done with the initial setup??

Wow that's horrible does it even let you put in security keys and act like its connecting?

Does Wii mode have the same number of 'blocks' as the actual system? I was hoping to have all my downloads on the system without an SD card.

HALP

So my tv sucks and the image from the WiiU is blown up by quite a bit on my tv (in comparison to the GamePad) and there is no option on my tv to set image size.

Then, lo and behold, there is an option to set the screen size in the Miiverse profile options. Is there any way to do this to the entire system and not just the Miiverse app?!

Had to set my television (Samsung) to FIT, which scaled the image back just a bit as it was too far zoomed in and cutting off the corners.

Welcome to Next Gen, enjoy all of its fruits.

you're exaggerating. go drink some tea or something.

Yes, I'm exaggerating. It's only because I'm trapped inside a magical prism which magnifies everything I feel by 10 that I could possibly come to a different value judgement on any real issue than you.

I'm upbeat for the system's future, at least for the next year. The doom and gloom in here is tiring for sure, but people are entitled to call hiccups as they see them I think.

Hmm.

[So, when do you guys think the next Nintendo Direct will be and will it feature any new Wii U software announcements? I can't help but think that there'll be a mini sometime soon to address the issues found today and announce new tweaks and updates and stuff and yeah.]

I bought NSMBU with my deluxe and I've had a great time today. Mario looks good, is fun, also has legit challenge in the later levels and in 'challenge' mode. NL has surprised me a lot. I didn't expect to like it, but everything besides Octopus Dance and Donkey Kong have been fun, in both single and multiplayer.

Overall, I would say I've liked the Wii U more than I thought I would. It synced to my TV and cable box on the first shot, which was nice. The screen on the GamePad looks better than I expected, and it is very responsive. This is honestly one of the funnest gaming days I've had in quite awhile. I look forward to playing some more NSMBU and Nintendo Land tomorrow, as well as downloading Little Inferno.

I had fun with the games I've played, I like the off-TV play, so it's been good for me. I can understand if you bought some ports that were bad you might be bummed, but for me, it's been good, and I'm glad I bought one today.

Uhh... Use Wifi.

Okay connection issues solved apparently for now. I posted on the previous page about trying for 3 hours to get it to connect.

After searching google I found the following link, about half way through there are steps for manual setup, I followed them and I am now finally connected to wifi

http://techforums.nintendo.com/message/77869

It appears its a decently common issue? Anyways if anyone else ha connection issues please try that, as I said it worked for me.

Please excuse the crude typing and format I'm on my iPhone in the basement
