So... I finally transferred my Wii stuff to the Wii U.

I have a problem.

All my Virtual Console games are displaying in widescreen stretched mode, due to Wii mode displaying in 1080i (for me) and thus being impossible (on most televisions) to change the format on the tv itself.

While I could -manually- change the display mode every time I want to go into Wii mode, that seems a bit silly.

I don't think there's a way to change things at the moment, but it would be nice if the next system update let you flag a "change to 480p mode" when entering Wii mode.

Huh, did the Wii letterbox your VC games for you? Mine always stretched them out, I had to manually set my TV to 4:3 whenever I played them. If there was an option in the system menu that I missed for six years I might cry :p

Anybody picked up any kind of cover for the GamePad? I'm looking to get a screen protector and some type of cover and was looking for some feedback on any that others may have tried.

Does anyone know if there is a special 2-game bundle for K-Mart in USA? My wife went there this afternoon, and they asked $399 for the deluxe and she told me the box said there were a bonus 2 games on the box itself. Of course, the sales person was a complete moron and didnt know what he was doing......

Oh, no -- the Wii U Wii mode is acting like a normal Wii -- the problem is that it's sending out an HD signal on HDMI. Many sets refuse to change aspect ratios when getting an HD signal on HDMI.

It would be nice, then, if the Wii U automatically switched to 480p when entering Wii mode.

So I picked up a LAN adapter, and I'm getting slower speeds than I did with WiFi according to various bandwidth tests through the browser. What gives? Do Nyko LAN adapters suck or something?

I have the official LAN adapter and decided to speed test it on my Wii and Wii U. I get drastically faster speeds with Wi-Fi on both. I wasted my money on the adapter. :/

No matter what I use though, neither the Wii nor the Wii U come close to the speeds my PC gets. The Wii U download was maxing at 12 mb/s on Wi-Fi, while the Wii only got 2.3 mb/s. My PC gets 25.06 mb/s.

Just at EB Games and traded in 6 games (Pokemon white, Kirkby mass attack, kid Icarus, Mario 2, kingdom hearts 3D, starfox3D) for $167! Including an extra 30 percent using my bro's EB world card level 3 bonus.

So after $50 deposit I only have to pay another $150 to play Mario U on Friday lol

Got my Hori screen protector from amazon today. Easy to apply and feels nice and slick. Finger doesn't drag like with some screen protectors I've used before.

I just got the HORI screen protector today and will apply it shortly. Hopefully it's good.

Ya, I've been trying to warn people about this. It's anywhere from 5 to 10 times slower than WiFi and I can't figure out why. What are you using to measure the bandwidth since SpeedTest doesn't work?

This one is HTML5, so I can use it on the PC and Wii U. http://www.bandwidthplace.com/

I get the same results with it on my PC as I do with http://speedtest.net/, which works with the original Wii.

Marty posted that earlier.

I was getting a totally erroneous result from them. A fraction what SpeedTest (and what I know my connection) can do. On both my PC and my iPhone.

But it should at the very least show that there's a big difference between wired and wireless.

Marty mentioned 1.5 Megabit.

Which happens to the data rate of "low bandwidth USB 1.0" spec.

Released in January 1996, USB 1 specified data rates of 1.5 Mbit/s (Low-Bandwidth) and 12 Mbit/s (Full-Bandwidth).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Serial_Bus#USB_1

Seems like maybe a culprit.. for some reason the Wii-U is reverting to crappy USB 1.0 for that adapter?

I just got the system yesterday! Damn, that system update was way to long! Well, all updates in general seem to be slow as hell.

Had a blast playing Mario Chase with some friends. Died in my first 10 minutes in Zombi U (enjoying it so far).

To be able to control my TV with the Game pad it's actually really confortable. I'm trying to decide whether to do a Wii system transfer or leave as it is.

Oh, my NNID is Hunnies28, feel free to add me.

Not really. The lack of the Deluxe Promotion is kinda lame, but otherwise, I'm just glad I got the console.
Same for me. Ended up getting digital Nintendo Land and hooked up an old hard drive.

In the end it's likely best for me as I'm a bit OCD and constantly clean smudges off my electronics. The black controller would have likely killed me.

On the Wii U, the ethernet adapter was getting ~6 mb/s for me (compared to 12 mb/s from Wi-Fi) so I don't think USB 1.0 is the issue. The original Wii even managed 1.8 mb/s, which is still faster. It's probably just poor driver/software/whatever support from Nintendo. :(

I see. Was just a total wild guess based on his 1.5 megabit mention :)

A good guess on the information, and it's too bad we don't have such a convenient answer for the issue! My Wi-Fi is pretty reliable, so I guess I won't sweat it too much. Just wish I had my $30 back from Nintendo's online store.

Anyone regret going the basic bundle?

It's really frustrating to have only 3.5gb left after the update. It's not a game changer because I prefer boxed games but IMO it's complete bullshit that an update would be that incredibly big.

Other than that, just the color of it. I really dislike the direction Nintendo took with the design of the console. I find it extremely boring, it's just a big white rectangle. It also gets dirty really easy from settling dust. My other consoles look like they have dust on them from time to time. My WiiU literally gets brownish/black smudges on it.

The WiiU will probably be the first system that I get an aftermarket console design for.

Are owners of the White Wii U going to be hosed in the future/near future? When I was testing my HDD, I was using the Nintendo Land Update file and noticed it was 226mb (yeah and update weighing in at 226mb). If game updates are going to be that large, isn't 8gb going to be enough?

It's always frustrating not knowing. And of course, extra frustrating when you think switching to wired will give you the full proof max speed and you end up with a fraction of the performance.

I prefer having a bridged wireless network, with my devices connected to the bridge via ethernet. One point of success/failure... and routers with their large antenna tend to connect quite flawlessly.

Anyone with the basic model who has updated has 3.5gb or less. The update that allows you to access the online features is at least 4gb I think. It's pretty ridiculous. So the 8gb feature is basically a number on a box that has no relevancy.

That being said, it's not anywhere close as bad as the arcade model 360. That was such a blatant bait and switch move.

Does anyone know if the patch download when you start up the system for the first time will be as slow as it was for the Americans when Europe gets it?

I'm still kinda surprised that I managed to get an instore preorder literally three days before the midnight release. I worked in games retail from Wii/PS3 launch up until this year, and that never happened at my store let alone a GAME.

oh man, just over two days left now!

Yay, I just managed to snag a second Deluxe while briefly in stock at futureshop.ca. $25 off thanks to Cyber Monday deals.

I'll be returning it with the receipt for my current system :)

Pretty new to the Nintendo Community so I would really appreciate adding a few of you to my friend's list. MizzouGaming is my Nintendo ID. Thanks

Are there really no demos available in the Nintendo Marketplace? I am liking the system but this barebones Nintendo Online setup has extreme frustration written all over it.

Nobody knows - I'm guessing that the European model will come pre-patched, the US release was rushed to hit Black Friday. Chances are the European models when they install the base OS onto them it'll be the updated OS.

Of course that's just my guess.

I'm sure it will be. I've used HORI in the past. Still, it would be nice for you to confirm after you apply.

Anyone picked up a case or sleeve? I'm going crazy over the fingerprints and smudges on my GamePad :(

If there is a patch, I'll download it through the night. Online traffic on launch day from 10am onwards is likely to be horrendous considering Nintendos shitty servers, from what I've heard.

of course I'll play on it first though. Haven't actually tried the Wii U yet, and won't until I'm in GAME on Thursday night.

There are none currently, but I imagine they'll show up eventually. The 3DS eshop has them. Now, the question is, is it worth your time to spend three days downloading and installing an hour long demo? lolololol

Is anywhere renting Wii U games yet? USA or future UK?

My girlfriend is on maternity leave from Blockbuster for a year, and if they are going to be doing Wii U rentals, it'll be awesome to get them whenever free of charge.

I guess I'll phone up later today or something.

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA

Whoa.

Hold on.

Blockbuster is still open?

How long are these dummies going to leave games like Madden, ME, Darksiders etc at full price? I'd buy a couple of these games if they were the same price as the 360/PS3. I get that publishers feel like milking early adopters is their god-given right, but this is one of several reasons their ports won't sell on the Wii U, and then they'll use that as a reason to stop porting. I'll live vicariously through those of you that did shell out full price (suckers) in the meantime - how's Mass Effect on the gamepad?

Darksiders 2 could be argued to be worth that price since it includes DLC. So could Batman. CoD Blop 2 is ok. The others, including AC3 should have price parity.
